Starship Troopers on youtube: • Starship Troopers 1997...
(It would be ideal to watch it somewhere else for better quality)
How people misinterpreted an anti-draft book and it's movie adaptation as "fascist" I have no clue.
"Black scare" maybe.
Anyway, while perhaps meant to be satire of the book, Verhoeven's movie doesn't manage to raise any valid points that Heinlein's himself didn't touch on already.
If it truly was meant to critique or mock the book, then there was a fundamental misunderstanding of the source material.
On the other hand, if it was meant to be satire of militarism, then it completely messed that up by having a united humanity face murderous bugs.
I just don't see how this movie could possibly be considered a successful satire of anything but propaganda.
But then again, it doesn't need to be:
Despite the jarring jokes-to-gore juxtaposition and the occasionally bad acting from part of the cast, Starship Troopers' still a good movie.
Although I can see why people would be put-off by the love quadrangle, since it ends abruptly and without a satisfying conclusion, and I guess audiences expected the action to be closer to Robocop.
I'm not looking forward to rewatching the sequels.
OVA next, probably.

I've read this book multiple times, inspired by my love of the movie.. After reading it, I can't stand to watch the movie anymore. Where's the power armor? Where's Carmon's shaved head? Where's Rico becoming his father's boss? The writers and producers and the director of this movie CLEARLY never read the book.
For all intents and purposes, all masculine books have been essentially banished from all of western culture.
The extreme feminization of the movie was an effort to completely pervert the book while making money based on the title since the book retained a legacy of fans sufficient to help with movie marketing.
Exactly what Jeb said. It also didn't help that the movie director and producer Paul Verhoven, has a deep hatred for all militaries.
This came about because he lived in german occupation in Belgium during WW2 as a boy.
When the Allies came to, you know kick the germans out, he considered that "a invasion of his country as well", and "they could have peacefully talked the germans to leave".
So to this day, he considers all military, no matter country, origin or time period, they are all nazis in his eyes.
Hense the whermacht style uniforms in this movie. Verhoven also stated that he hoped the audience would root for the bugs. In his words, "Anybody rooting for the humans need to take a long look at themselves" and stated he "did a bad job at portraying the humans as the villains".
Paul Verhoeven intentionally made a Leftist propaganda film.
@@thepsychicspoon5984 You got a source for that part about the allies?
@@thepsychicspoon5984 The director honestly was pretty dumb, I mean you
Show the humans get attacked by the bugs do they counter attack to protect themselves and they are the bad guys? What??
Service in the book was not just military it was all public service to be entitled to vote.
Book is far better for plot and character development.
I believe it’s 95% civil service to 5% military servive
So that means people not eligible for military service will not be barred from Citizenship because the movie gave me that impression if you were disqualified from service a person would be barred from Citizenship
@@Jbessette The movie was based on characters and the theme/plot of the book but misrepresented the culture as a farcically stereotypical fascist one, in a comic book style.
@@Jbessette The book doesn't really go into much detail about other branches but it does state that everybody is eligible for Federal Service and that the Federation can not discriminate and must find you something to do to earn franchise. You could turn up with no arms and no legs and the Federation by law cannot turn you away. The military was simply the quickest option but soldiering is just one of many ways that a person could earn citizenship, civil services were also an option.
@@MyThingYTTV Correction: the only people not eligible for Federal Service are those who are simply too retarded to understand the oath of allegiance.
- US Army developing Powered Exoskeleton for troops.
- US Space Force is created
- Social unrest caused by anarchists and socialists extremists.
ME: "Ah yes, it's all coming together."
Except for the policies of political correctness and the emasculation of the US military turning it into a farce of pussys and yes-men.
Until real standards were dropped, not one single woman ever came close to meeting the requirements for either Special forces or Marine Infantry Officer. Standards have gone to shit. Deviations were implemented (manipulation) to get the first women through basic Ranger training (possibly the least demanding of the elite force training)
In addition to all that, 75% to 80% of military age young males are simply too disgustingly weak, mentally stupid, or psychologically dysfunctional for the bare Minimum starting entry requirements.
On top of that, the radical left has increased the purging out of warriors who have a traditional moral sense of honor, but perverts with broken moral compasses are acceptably politically correct.
The technology might be there, but the sense of honor and individual strength and character is in the process of being gutted throughout the US military. It is being destroyed from within and that destruction is already well underway.
@Treebeard The Ent
😥
Oh how I hate them for their disgusting ideology.
Anarchism =/= chaos.
Heinlein was trying I think from what I read to instill a sense of response ability in the teens and youth of the 1950s America
That is very needed lately
They can produce a movie or short TV series of 5 or 6 episodes more adapted from the book. It would be awesome. Though many people would be upset from the start being an attack on the Skinnies city. Then transitioning through the various training, political philosophy, and to bluntly, the slow parts. Before moving on to the battle scenes. Which could be sprinkled throughout a series to keep those viewers' attention.
I'm sure they'll reboot the movie eventually, as everything seems to be getting rebooted, but after the sequels most people see Starship Troopers as a joke so I doubt anyone would be willing to do a serious adaptation of the book.
GnorriTV what a loss ! Arrrgh.
Also Dizzy died few pages in and is a MAN. Rico'a batch was 2009 people. 14 died (one was executed by the court martial), the others pack their bags abd go home while rico and his company of 187 made the cut. Bugs do shoot guns and builds FTL capable ships because stupid races don't build spaceships. The best part is the DROP. They are called cap troopers for a reason.
"Trash at melee combat " Tae is that you
THANK YOU 🙏 for analyzing my FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME!!! It is a world 🌎 I wish we lived in. Look at all the bad in the news. Senseless war, wild criminals, lack of civic virtue. From littering trash to murder.... all stem from a selfish immaturity. Lack of imagination regarding responsibility
I cant agree more! 🙂💪
The MI trains hard enough that anyone who isn't prepared for combat washes out.
Yeah, in the books.
The movie definitely shows unprepared people on Klendathu
@@GnorriTV indeed
He even says that "it's better to have an empty file than a man nursing conscript syndrome"
It's because their basic infantry is the equivalent of modern special forces.
Purposfully made this way, not necessarily to produce better trained soldiers but instead only to have the most motivated and capable join their ranks. A person who has the option to quit at anytime without punishment bar during combat or losing the ability to ever hold franchise and yet stays is a person of high morale, motivation and capability. Meritocracy is one of the biggest themes in the book and in theory without corruption as is punishable upto death in the Federation should produce a society that is lead by the most competent and effective of people.
Great video. I really appreciate that the fact you did your research for this video.
I just read the book and used a "death of the author" approach.
Considering how badly this movie was received I'm sure there's plenty of damage control.
This is shocking because I was coming to the comments to note the incredible lack of research done here. I'm glad the OP has commented and confirmed they didn't look too much into the topic and instead have attempted to form their opinion entirely from their own analysis.
Of course, this video would be very different if the creator had, instead, looked even a little bit into what the filmmakers' views on these exact questions are. The filmmakers are not "r*tards" for understanding the political satire that THEY intentionally put into the film. In the first few minutes of the director's commentary of the film, Verhoeven says that the point of the movie, succinctly, is "that war makes fascists of us all".
just finished the book the film is woefully underwhelming compared but its still a great film , the book is more military focused and the film is condensed also reco filipino not Argentina, carl written out and karmen is never seen again the lost of character is way more impactful and learn a lot of random facts about the world also they dropped the skinnys as well. marauder was a better adaptation but they still didn't get the suits right but they are fantastic films .

It is not an accurate adaptation of the book.
Obviously.
Depends on how you interpreted the scenes in the book

This was an amazing video
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.
Excellent video, so many people do not get it. Ive wondered about the movie sequels and if they are worth watching. I agree Heinlein's phrases about buying the farm are annoying, but they were popular expressions to describe kicking the can (dying) at the time. Heinlein's insistence that race and gender do not matter (Rico being Fillipino) was also a troubling aspect of an otherwise highly respectable book. The propaganda portions of the film are the best portions of the film, and I'm glad you actually took note of their points, since most people misidentify them as being just a stupid satire of militarism. The bugs are a threat!
Glad you knew Rico was Filipino!

Why was it a troubling aspect if you don’t mind me asking?
That was an excellent recap
"Rico kept in touch during training via Tik-Tok"
Subbed right there, you're going places man
Hard to emotionally connect and feel a sense of danger for characters who can pogo stick across cities and drop nukes at will in super protected armor. Just not interesting to watch on screen, doesn’t translate. Book nerds won’t ever get it
The book and movie are not antipodes but are embracing totally different stories and messages. And he’s the movie does critique the world view of the book. You can get a lot out of reading books and the movie but the movie is far more challenging to understand the message.
Paul Verhoeven didn't even understand the book, he just skimmed though the first few pages, decided it was "fascist" and thus he determined that didn't to need to read the rest of it. It fails at satire, because it doesn't even understand what it's trying to critique.

Love the movie grew up watchin it. but the books alot between though
Before one minute I knew I'd love this!!
ITS FASCHIST@ ! IM OUT TRAGEAGED!
So much effort put into needlessly claiming that the film isn't a satire and a critique (like that's a bad thing) when it obviously is.
A satire and critique by someone who admitted they barely read a few pages of the book and used the IP as window dressing for a preexisting script to get attention.
Half russian, half indian accent...
I don't sound like super mario but my accent is 100% Italian.
Nice job! The book doesn't appeal to me as I don't buy into jingoistic propaganda on any level. Warfare is fueled by vested interests, greed & petty differences. The innocent are brutalized & it's upon their spilled blood that great nations continue to exert their power & influence. Verhoeven's film on the other hand is brilliant, his outsider take on American culture is very entertaining -- Americans' are indeed "jingoes", no doubt about it.
You didn't seem to understand the book even remotely.
maybe don't apply a term that was used in house during a war of conquest without knowing what it means
a jingoist is a crazy person who activley wants to stomp down all those in the way of there expansion the us of a does not do that like at all even our worst traits fall under imperialism at worst
personally thought the movie was better. The book was quite boring, which usually I don't mind slow burns but nothing really happens through the majority of the book. Also the book pretty clearly glorifies the jingoistic and highly militarized society
also the amount of female worship I guess I'd call it was super cringey
That's kind of what the military is.
It's a book about the military.
You have bad taste
@@Thunderchild-gz4gc it's a boring book and the points attempting to be made range from morally dubious at best to outright factually wrong and utterly harmful at worst. 🤷 Sue me
@@tonkdumbledonk Well the book wasn’t made to be action, it was a political message disguised as a sci-fi story
