Thanks mate - wish I'd found this sooner. I watched some muppet say you just pop it out of the case all the way around - no mention of pulling out any adhesive - i ended up breaking the screen which, it turns out, wasn't faulty, just a loose connection with the 30 pin plug. A hard $200 lesson.
I had done a repair similar to this but instead of heat mat, I used a heat gun(blow dryer) to loosen the adhesive. That's of course acceptable correct. Cause the ultimate goal is soften the adhesive strips, making the removal a much easier task and helping to avoid damage to the digitizer?

I just replaced my screen (along with the exterior lid) but the sensor to close the lid doesn't seem to work, did I forget something?
I might suspect there is a magnet still on the old screen
