You remind me of a channel called HVACR VIDEOS. It's all about being in the field of work and was originally used as training for employees. I hope to see more "in the field" channels like yours because not only is it entertaining but it also is a great way to spike interest, help people understand what you guys do in the field, and encourage people to do more things like you. I love this channel, super interesting, keep up the great work! :)
My wife is sitting next to me on the couch doing her own thing and not paying attention to what I'm watching. She hears what she thought was "Today we're fixing a crack pipe" and head pops up.
Always amazes me all the little things that we take for granted when we visit water parks. Fun to see the lazy river fill and filter stage. As always, thanks for sharing!
Usually tap water is mostly balanced on its own and doesn't need much (depends on the area though). For on the fly adjustments, I would guess they have a controller that can test and add chems as needed. Usually commercial has a liquid chlorine, and a muriatic acid pump. But that's my experience for pools you might find in a hotel or a community pool, which are peanuts to this thing lol
@Hubba Bubba the liquid “Chlorine” your are referring to is Sodium Hypochlorite. Chlorine is a Gas and is only ever present as a liquid under the extreme pressures of a gas cylinder. The only time you’ll ever see Chlorine as a gas is in a major accident or war crime. Even mixing Ammonia and Bleach; You’d only ever recover/suffer Chloramine vapor which is deadly in it’s own right, But not the genuine article.
It never hurts to ask! That's how I got to see the 'back room' where the 1,500 HP hydraulic system to operate the wave panels resides at our wave pool.
Typhoon Texas!! Been here on a school trip super fun!! They have a ride where you stand in a tube and the floor drops from beneath almost sending you into a free fall finishing with an awesome slide. Great to see the inner workings of this amazing place.
Love when a new video drops from this channel! I'm mainly into theme parks and their rides as I am involved in a theme park channel but we branched out into doing water park videos by request of our viewers so now I find myself watching this stuff as well!
The closest I've come to working on a waterpark or working on a swimming pool is actually swimming in the pool, yet this video was recommended to me and I'm so glad it was. This stuff is so fascinating to me. Subscribed!
I recommend you get extra orings for that filter and keep they stocks. We run these filters at work so have a lot of experience with them. Be careful not to over tighten the little filler cap on the top they snap off easy and break off inside the lids. We had to run bigger holed metal filters in ours but for general water application you should be good.
Your videos are fascinating. Water parks, wave pools and the machines to operate them are awesome! I wish they would refill our wave pool again soon, so the surf club can surf again in the evenings.
Use a silver spray paint on the pvc pipe. It helps to bounce the uv rays off so the pipe lasts longer. Also if code would allow you too electrical pvc conduit is uv resistant and works great.
I have a burning hatred for all lazy rivers that stemmed from my fear of pool drains, but even though I don’t like em, I will admit all the engineering that goes into these is impressive.
I just came across your channel. I’m subscribed. Thank you for the awesome content. I always had a fascination with what goes on behind the scenes of waterparks. This is very intriguing to me. I hope one day in the future I have the opportunity to visit many waterparks around the world. I loved them as a kid, so I hope I get to revisit them as an adult.
Just curious why that pipe requires a catch basin. Does the pump that supplies the slide not have one already? I’m guessing this one has a smaller screen to catch anything that could clog the jet, where the main one has a larger screen as to not impede the flow of the water too much?
Split ring hanger and beam clamp. Solve all your hanging issues. Also get wye strainers with npt threads on the clean out. Just install a ball valve and blow it out.
@@thepoolguy yeah its a great video. I spoke to you about locking out your power when you released the video. Keep them coming, I love technical details 👍
Would it be possible to have a pre filter of the hydrant water as it’s being filled. This would cut down on wear of the more expensive filters and not add any additional dirt/debris to the attractions. Would it cut down on setup time
I didnt know they had anything like that. I would say that turning over a pool with my filters is actually simple, so I think It wouldn't be cost effective.
How do you avoid waterhammer situations? Is turning valves on slowly enough to mitigate it, or do you have special valves to soften the instantaneous pressure?
Any concern of the concrete slab underneath the strainer shifting over time and damaging the pipe connections? I'm sure its very heavy, but in my mind the rocks underneath as well as the ground eroding over time would lead to some shifting and strain on the connections.
Interesting motor start. Only the 150 HP ones we had had a soft starter. They were two steps to full speed. The smaller ones all were hit the button and watch them run. And the item you look in is a "sight glass", not a site glass. ;-)
Wish Salt Lake city utah would get off there back sides and have someone like u come and rebuild the water park that here they let it go so bad needs to be fully rebuild from the ground up
something huge you can do for super cheap. get some barbs and tubing for those topside bleeder port valves. run that down to the floor. the tubing also acts as a sight glass to see when you're flowing liquid. look at the corrosion on the equipment. you can also leave those valves slightly cracked to deal with built up dissolved gasses from turbulent flow.
Yes, this has been talked about a few times as an option, but honestly, we kind of enjoy the water splashing down during a fresh filter cleanup and a super hot Texas summer evening..... but yes, gotta work on corrosion. Thanks for the comment
Why not take the plugs out of the bottoms of the pipes in the gully washer when you are winterizing you can put the missing panel in storage for the winter along with the plugs so if any water dies get in the pipes it can drain out instead of being able to fill the pipe freeze and break it
I remember when you showed us the pits earlier on, and from the video you could tell they were large, but somehow now that they're full of water it's different. You can tell just how MASSIVE those pits are when you see the water in them. One of those pits is probably larger than your average backyard pool! lol Are you ever going to talk chemicals? I have a backyard pool and I've read about saltwater systems, Bromine vs Chlorine, liquid shock versus powder, different types of algaecide, and all that jazz. Wonder what you think of all that and what you use there. How much chlorine you must go through. Probably get it by the pallet!
Im just working on adding water features to a natural pond, got an old submerisble waste pump... I really have no buisness being here about comercial plumbing and filtering systems, but I watched most of the video anyway...
@@thepoolguy how is that done? If I had to guess I'd say you close the valve from the surge pit and backfill it with water, then slowly open the valve with the pump running?
I have to wonder do you always have to fill from hydrants at a water park or can these parks also pump in from other sources. For example lots of ones I have been to here in the NE are right on actual rivers and I always figured they just pulled in from the river since its free water then.
Do you happen to know the brand and model number of the catch baskets on the large line going into the pump room at time mark 9:39 ? I have a project and have been having a problem finding a large catch basket. We are using the smaller type that you put in place if the Y-strainer you replaced and I am dumping them every 5 minutes when we are doing a clean out of the wash system at my plant. Also why not use auto air grains for the large pipes?
I would have just added a 2nd filter with by-pass controls to switch between one filter to the other filter so you wouldn't need to shut down the system

Few questions:
1. How do you start/stop and drain the attractions?
2. Are you the owner of the park?
3. Do you like the job that you do?
It would e neat to have some drone footage during the fill cycles of all these attractions.
