DJ, I'm not much of a fanboy these days, considering I'm 52 years old. But you're one of my favorites for a reason. I love your positive outlook, enthusiasm, dedication, and, most especially, your humbleness. I received my blue belt over 20 years ago, and soon after had to quit because of health problems. Just wanted to say I thought this was really great. Honest. Relatable.. and by that, I don't mean like I know what it's like to be famous and rolling at black belt in competition. I'm a white belt. But the pressure, the nerves, the stress. It's actually great to see that even at this level, the pros can admit that it's a rollercoaster competing. Helps me feel better about my game and my first upcoming open competition in London UK, in a little over a week's time. Respect. This was straight up awesome.

DJ is my GOAT, for real. That mindset, that combat spirit, that attitude-it's truly inspiring. Watching him embark on a new quest after achieving so much in the UFC is genuinely impressive. I felt like it was a trap when the last guy stayed on the ground, but Mighty dove into it fearlessly. What a warrior.
I did feel bad for the third guy, though. In Japanese sports culture, a loss can be seen as a deep dishonor. Comparing DJ's perspective on winning and losing to that fighter's reaction was quite interesting. DJ consoled him as an experienced fighter, and even though they didn’t know each other, the Japanese fighter responded with respect and seemed genuinely grateful. You love to see it.
    What a video-thank you, DJ!

You can't blame them, when competing, everyone's mentality changes: adrenaline, stress, panic, and exhaustion make us play it safe and almost forget all the techniques.
My coach, when rolling with other black belts during practice, uses a lot of techniques and lands many moves, but when competing, I've seen him and his opponents only fight as simply as white belts, haha.

Some of IBJJF's rules are BS. Especially when they allow someone to hold a closed guard without actively attacking, like in your second match. I lost to someone last year in Wprlds who did the same thing. The guy just stalled the match by holding closed guard with no real attacks. But the ref dinged me a point for not getting out of his guard. Just one of the BS rulesets in IBJJF.
