Whoever had a trance listening to this song, its been sung in the jungles of South Karnataka for atleast 800 years. Story is that Lord Shiva roamed the jungles riding on a Tiger. He was a saint, a boy , but Lord Shiva. Please visit the temple of Male Mahadeshwara (Shiva) for whom this song was composed as a folklore. Back in those ages, people from villages afar 100s of kilometers used to walk and climb the mountains to visit the temple, and singing this song made their journey easy. Its been passed on since then as a traditional song.
Just now , at 3:30 am , a stabbing pain in my injured back woke me up … I heard a distant sound in the silence of the night , I had forgotten to put my earpods back in the case, and the algorithm had taken me to this song … it took my pain away !! It's soothing me with each loop. And I am not just talking about this mental/spiritual anxiety we all seem to carry around nowadays … I'm talking about actual physical pain !! God bless you and your music ! May your voice reach far and wide 🙏🏽🙏🏽
This lyrics not at all available in internet. There is another version all over. And they are sharing the same. Pls do post this version somewhere. I am not able to copy this. Thank you
If you cry while watching/leasing this song first time, dont worry you are completely normal. I cry every time and the thing is i dont understand single words of it except the mahadeva mahadeva.
After sadhguru video, iam tamilian, i do not understand a single word, but this song, the divinity n her voice melted me down n tears filled in my eyes. Thanks. Bliss. Long live. Stay blessed om namah shivayah
A crude translation. This is a song for the shiva temple in Male Mahadeshwara temple in Southern Karnataka. This is a folk song and portrays the endearing devotion of the village folk. Meanings are useless here, the emotion and the rendition of song is what evokes such deep emotions. Esp. with Sadhguru's video. O Mahadeva. Surprising jasmines! Jasmine flowers on your head. I have brought you the garland of chandakki, bilva leaves. I have brought Tulsi leaves for your Pooja. I have lighted a lamp, heated with ghee, I have brought you orange fruit as well. For the folks who climb your mountain why would they need their huts for they think you are their everything. For those who think you are everything, will forget their huts.
For those who don't know, she sang hit song from KGF movie's Mother Sentimental song 'Garbhadi'. Please like so that everybody should recognize her.. she deserves it, Thank you.
Hearing this song makes me refresh daily while going to sleep at night I forget all my worries thanks ,Ananya my heart full of blessings my child good night Kavita vijay kumar 🕉️🕉️🕉️
Today, when you presented at ISHA, it was really Emotional, along with Sadguru, I was also feeling the Tears flowing. God Bless 🙏 you . Jai Shri Gurudev.
Came here after Sadhguru's 2019 Kailash video..wow..this is truly a masterpiece and the devotion with which it is sung is beyond description.. Bowing down to the singer and her team and to this channel for gifting this to us..🙏🙏🙏
Watched her performance last night at Sadhguru's Shivratri even... I was absolutely mesmerized by her voice and this whole song though I couldn't understand the language, couldn't resist searching this song up !!! So full of emotion I can't even describe 😍😍😍😍
I don’t understand why everyone is mentioning their state and trying to appreciate this song. Anyone and everyone should fall in love with this song. Mahadeva is beyond Kerala Tamil Nadu Kashmir Gujarat etc. So is music. Nanu (I am) Kashmiri. Just in case it helps my point for others
I feel the same😁. When there is a religious content video, people will mention their religion to appreciate. Maybe they are trying to put forth a point that they are listening to or watching something which is very unusual for them.
I m not able to understand a single word... Still the song touched my soul tears from eyes... Can't stop it... U have wonderful voice ma'am after listening live from mahashivratri performance at isha yoga center.. On UA-cam
Because of corona virus my 3 daughters and wife cannot travel to kuwait from india. this song and her voice crashed my iced heart with a stone. i am waiting since two years to see my daughters. thanks sadhguru to lead me to this song. blessings to u lady
From Telangana...not understood this song...but still simply love this song..I want to learn kannada...such a nice language...and such a nice song..and try to watch Yettagayya Shiva Shiva song in telugu sang by Ananya Bhatt
As a native Badaga speaker, a language very close to Old Kannada, from the Nilgiri Hills of Tamilnadu, this rendition has ripped my heart and conquered my soul. I want to convey my sincere appreciations to Ananya and the supporting musical artists for bringing this piece of art to the internet so that people like us can connect to our Ancient heritage. Thank you. Koti Namaskaara! Lot of love.
I heard this song yesterday night In Isha MSR(sadguru) celebrations... Don't know y I cried n cried n cried continuously, I don't know what is the reason even I don't know the meaning of lyrics, but I felt something. more than this video , yesterday her voice has more intense..

I am from Karnataka. I love this song and listen 10 times everyday. How lucky we are we can understand language and emotions of lady who worships the Lord Shiva with her feelings
After hearing this song at Isha Mahasivaratri, my heart was crying everyday to hear at least once every night. What a soulful divinity in Ananya bhat voice. i became a big fan of her even though i am from tamil and without knowing the meaning of this song.
Nepoliyan Kadirvel All this song is, about is offering to Shiva....in pure devotion. Ananya Bhat, Indian singer. Now blessed by So called Jaggi Vasudeva Mystic man of India. Shiva I am giving you all these flowers ..... Needle jasmine, round jasmine for your head, then lotus and then the three leaf bilva.. I also give butter and hitale fruit... You who live in top of mountain ⛰
This song only belongs to ananya bhat. She did something else, out of the world, somewhere where lord mahadev would also brings tear in his eyes. Unmatched singing. 🙏🙏
I've tried to roughly translate the kannada folk song here. It is a simple song about a woman offering worship to Mahadeva, (or Maadeva of the Male-Mahadeshwara hills) with some deep symbolisms and truth. Although it is not explicitly mentioned where she is (whether at home or upon the hill where the temple is) we can assume she is at home while her heart and mind are elsewhere, in the mountains of Mahadeva. here goes: *Sojugada sooju-mallige, Maadeva nimma mande myaale dundu-mallige: sojuga: wonder sooju-mallige: a variety of jasmine (mallige) with pointed needle(sooji) like petals maadeva: Mahadeva in folk tongue nimma mande myaale: upon your head dundu mallige: a variety of jasmine with multi layered petals and rounded(dundu) in appearance. (the lady here delights in the wondrous creation of Mahadeva and offers flowers to the lord, one by one, calling out their names as though she were calling different names of the lord. Much like offering water as abhisheka to the Lord "completes the cycle", offering flowers symbolizes a deep reverence to nature and creation) *Andaavare mundaavare matte taavare pushpa, chandakki maale bilpatre... maadeva nimge, chandakki maale bilpatre tulasi dalava, maadappna poojege bandu... andaavare : anda+taavare beautiful lotus mundaavare: mandaara flower(?) matte: and again, taavare pushpa: lotus flower. chandakki: pretty. could also mean akshata (chandakki=beautiful rice literally) maale: garland bilpatre: bilva leaves maadeva nimge: to you, maadeva. tulasi dalava: leaves of tulasi, maadappna poojege bandu: having come to the pooja of father Mahadeva. (the lady offers lotuses upon beautiful lotuses to the lord Mahadeva, as she worships him, singing of the beautiful garlands and leaves of bilva and tulasi she has brought especially for him. Lotuses and bilva leaves and Tulasi hold deep importance in Indian thought as we know) *TappaaLe beLagivni tuppaava kaaysivni kittaaLe hanna tandivni, Maadeva ninge, kittaaLe hanna tandivni maadappa, kittaaDi baruva parasege... tappaaLe: a brass plate/vessel used as an "aarti" plate (in this context) beLagivni: i have lit (the aarti) tuppava kaaysivni: i have clarified the butter and made ghee (tuppa) kittaaLe hanna tandivni : i have brought u oranges (kittaLe hannu) maadeva ninge: for u maadeva, kittaaDi baruva parasege: your fair or jatra which i would fight (with the household members no doubt) to come to (the lady tells her Mahadeva while she lights the aarti for him, that she has brought freshly heated ghee(a symbol of her clarified mind) for him and oranges all the while thinking of the fair, (which happens once a year on deepavali) at his temple atop the hill, which she wouldn't miss, even if it meant having to fight with her family members to get there. The song in fact is loaded with symbolism. For instance, The white jasmine has always been a symbol of the Karpura-gaura Shiva Mallikarjuna, Lotuses as a symbol of the enlightenment of the soul, bilva as the triadic nature of ParaShiva as the creator, sustainer and destroyer .. etc. Oranges and citric fruits incidentally are symbols of the created universe in Indian iconography) *beTT-hattkonD hogorge haTTi hambalavyaaka, beTTad maadeva gatiyendu..maadeva neeve, maadeva neeve..maadeva neeve beTTad maadeva gatiyendu avarinnu haTTi hambalava maretaaro.. beTTa: hill, here refering to Male-mahadeshwara hills (literally) but Kailasa in effect hattkonD hogorge: to those who climb the hill haTTi: house hambalavyaaka: why the desire/attachment/worry? beTTad maadeva gatiyendu: the lord of the hill is the sole refuge. maadeva neeve: only you maadeva.. beTTad maadeva gatiyendu avarinnu haTTi hambalava maretaaro : they forget their woes and worries and attachments when they sought refuge in the lord of the hill. (the lady here having her mind firmly attached in the lord atop the hill, speaks a simple truth about the pangs of life and our attachments and how only Mahadeva is the refuge, only Mahadeva is the refuge...only Mahadeva is the refuge) hope this helps :) Kindly do forgive any mistakes. Shivaaya Namah OM. Sharanu.
i too came here after watching sadhguru's video... i was in tears ! amazing song ! Bow down to all behind this song ! I have fallen in love with this song ! Can you please help us with a lyrics video for the non Kannada speaking people please?
Actually , I am in sadhana for 41 days for maha Shivaratri, without knowing any meaning about the song , ths song dragged me more then 100 times I heard the song and I went to maha Shivaratri for Isha , I am shocked this melting heart singer came there and performance thse song before the adi yogi , I just melted with tears ohhhhhh maha deva
Actually, it is about innocent talk by innocent devotee with the Lord, telling Him how she will adorn flowers and leaves, offer fruits and lit lamp. Essentially a simple prayer from the heart, not complicated chants or verses, all the while seeking refuge of the Mahadeva. Just pure devotion. Such a beautiful song and rare voice. Thank you "engineer's pick" for posting this.
Coming right after watching her shivaratri performance in presence of sadhguru.... I feel that was 👌👌🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏.... Although I don't know what she is saying.... But her devotion, simplicity n submission is breath taking
Namaskaram akka.. 🙏 Thank you so much for this beautiful song i dont know any meaning of it but there's something divine touched deep inside me tears rolled down... Pranam 🙇♂️
It' s a SOUL piercing rendition!!!! Absolutely Divine! This song is meant ONLY for Aanaya Bhatt! Blessings to you my child!! The background music arrangement adds to the soulfulness of the song. Kudos to the guys on the accompaniment
I don't understand the language but I can't stop my tears just listening to this song. No logic or reason can explain this emotion for me right now. 🙏🙏🙏
I am a Sindhi. I don’t understand a word of this song, yet I can’t stop my tears and the truth is I am not even an emotional person. I listen to this bhajan and realize that the same thing touches our soul wherever originate from India. I don’t know why that is. Maybe our Grand Grand......Naanis all originated from Mohen Jo Daaro and spoke a version of ancient Tamil there. Those who say India is a British construct - I say to them - brother/sister, listen to this bhajan and if it touches you despite you not being a Kannadiga, please think about your assumptions. Maybe we all don’t know yet how much we are all blood relatives
You are so right. Couple of observations - 1) This is a Janapada song/Folk Song and not a Bhajan. 2) As you rightly pointed out, these folk songs have something in them that gives us Deja Vu moment. We may not know anything about a distant culture, but we still associate ourselves for no reason. Maybe, this song acted as a trigger to connect to our past.
U said u r not so emotional.. But still get tears.. It's the power of the song.. Music.. And above all.. Lord Shiva. The mahadeva .... I always have tears listening to devotional songs.. I am a spiritual soul..
No other person can sing this song as good as her... There's something that every other person lacks while singing. The instrumentalists who have contributed to the success of this song also deserve a huge round of applause
I am from Delhi and speak and understand hindi only. Heard this song on Facebook and went mad to hear full version. Not knowing a word of the song, I could somehow trace it. The voice, sentiments of the song just gives me goosebumps. Jai Mahadeva 🙏🏻 God bless her
But the actuall meaning of this song is that.... There is famous Hill in karnataka called MM hills ( Male Mahadeshwara )... She describes how difficult it is to climb that hill where mahadeva ( Shiva ) stays...and yes that hill is too difficult to climb... Mahadeva....
Soulful song, no words to express! Came here after seeing Sadguru Kailash 2019 video. Being kannadiga I was not aware of such gifted folksongs. Thank you 👃

Well said..the song touches us at a level beyond words and meaning !!
Thanks anyway for explaining !
Thanks:)

I keep wondering the same! 😀
Very true
I feel the same😁. When there is a religious content video, people will mention their religion to appreciate. Maybe they are trying to put forth a point that they are listening to or watching something which is very unusual for them.
It's madappa, a tribal god.
There is no wrong in mentioning ones state and appreciating the Song. Or do you see something wrong in that ?

This song only belongs to ananya bhat. She did something else, out of the world, somewhere where lord mahadev would also brings tear in his eyes. Unmatched singing. 🙏🙏
No.The Guitar and the unknown soliga tribe man or woman who wrote this song are equally great.
I've tried to roughly translate the kannada folk song here.
It is a simple song about a woman offering worship to Mahadeva, (or Maadeva of the Male-Mahadeshwara hills) with some deep symbolisms and truth.
Although it is not explicitly mentioned where she is (whether at home or upon the hill where the temple is) we can assume she is at home while her heart and mind are elsewhere, in the mountains of Mahadeva.
here goes:
*Sojugada sooju-mallige, Maadeva nimma mande myaale dundu-mallige:
sojuga: wonder
sooju-mallige: a variety of jasmine (mallige) with pointed needle(sooji) like petals
maadeva: Mahadeva in folk tongue
nimma mande myaale: upon your head
dundu mallige: a variety of jasmine with multi layered petals and rounded(dundu) in appearance.
(the lady here delights in the wondrous creation of Mahadeva and offers flowers to the lord, one by one, calling out their names as though she were calling different names of the lord. Much like offering water as abhisheka to the Lord "completes the cycle", offering flowers symbolizes a deep reverence to nature and creation)
*Andaavare mundaavare matte taavare pushpa, chandakki maale bilpatre... maadeva nimge, chandakki maale bilpatre tulasi dalava, maadappna poojege bandu...
andaavare : anda+taavare beautiful lotus
mundaavare: mandaara flower(?)
matte: and again,
taavare pushpa: lotus flower.
chandakki: pretty. could also mean akshata (chandakki=beautiful rice literally)
maale: garland
bilpatre: bilva leaves
maadeva nimge: to you, maadeva.
tulasi dalava: leaves of tulasi,
maadappna poojege bandu: having come to the pooja of father Mahadeva.
(the lady offers lotuses upon beautiful lotuses to the lord Mahadeva, as she worships him, singing of the beautiful garlands and leaves of bilva and tulasi she has brought especially for him. Lotuses and bilva leaves and Tulasi hold deep importance in Indian thought as we know)
*TappaaLe beLagivni tuppaava kaaysivni kittaaLe hanna tandivni, Maadeva ninge, kittaaLe hanna tandivni maadappa, kittaaDi baruva parasege...
tappaaLe: a brass plate/vessel used as an "aarti" plate (in this context)
beLagivni: i have lit (the aarti)
tuppava kaaysivni: i have clarified the butter and made ghee (tuppa)
kittaaLe hanna tandivni : i have brought u oranges (kittaLe hannu)
maadeva ninge: for u maadeva,
kittaaDi baruva parasege: your fair or jatra which i would fight (with the household members no doubt) to come to
(the lady tells her Mahadeva while she lights the aarti for him, that she has brought freshly heated ghee(a symbol of her clarified mind) for him and oranges all the while thinking of the fair, (which happens once a year on deepavali) at his temple atop the hill, which she wouldn't miss, even if it meant having to fight with her family members to get there. The song in fact is loaded with symbolism. For instance, The white jasmine has always been a symbol of the Karpura-gaura Shiva Mallikarjuna, Lotuses as a symbol of the enlightenment of the soul, bilva as the triadic nature of ParaShiva as the creator, sustainer and destroyer .. etc. Oranges and citric fruits incidentally are symbols of the created universe in Indian iconography)
*beTT-hattkonD hogorge haTTi hambalavyaaka, beTTad maadeva gatiyendu..maadeva neeve, maadeva neeve..maadeva neeve
beTTad maadeva gatiyendu avarinnu haTTi hambalava maretaaro..
beTTa: hill, here refering to Male-mahadeshwara hills (literally) but Kailasa in effect
hattkonD hogorge: to those who climb the hill
haTTi: house
hambalavyaaka: why the desire/attachment/worry?
beTTad maadeva gatiyendu: the lord of the hill is the sole refuge.
maadeva neeve: only you maadeva..
beTTad maadeva gatiyendu avarinnu haTTi hambalava maretaaro : they forget their woes and worries and attachments when they sought refuge in the lord of the hill.
(the lady here having her mind firmly attached in the lord atop the hill, speaks a simple truth about the pangs of life and our attachments and how only Mahadeva is the refuge, only Mahadeva is the refuge...only Mahadeva is the refuge)
hope this helps :) Kindly do forgive any mistakes.
Shivaaya Namah OM. Sharanu.

Although I am Arabian but i cry with her
This is not cry song. This is a song telling what disciples do for Lord Shiva
It is about Mahadev not emotional song
Actually, it is about innocent talk by innocent devotee with the Lord, telling Him how she will adorn flowers and leaves, offer fruits and lit lamp.
Essentially a simple prayer from the heart, not complicated chants or verses, all the while seeking refuge of the Mahadeva.
Just pure devotion. Such a beautiful song and rare voice.

It's a folk song and the song flowed from mouth to mouth since ages..
Couple of observations -
1) This is a Janapada song/Folk Song and not a Bhajan.
2) As you rightly pointed out, these folk songs have something in them that gives us Deja Vu moment. We may not know anything about a distant culture, but we still associate ourselves for no reason. Maybe, this song acted as a trigger to connect to our past.
You are right bro...
