Men With Green Faces
Quite frankly, this is the best Navy SEAL documentary ever filmed. It was produced during a time when there was no social media and there were no books written about the SEALs and their exploits. The guys in those teams were not concerned with being famous, writing books, consulting for movies, or appearing in reality shows. These guys represented the quintessential "quiet professional" who was in it to fight at the highest level and nothing else.
Amen, you nailed it. I've been watching this since 1994 in VHS.
I have to agree. It seems very grounded compared to all the tacticool-ed promotional videos we tend to see now. Puts them in a diff light.
You are right about this being the best. It was an official film used to get you motivated to volunteer. We saw this film to recruit us for training in 1970

They seem to have strayed from their roots a little😂😂😂
I'm proud to say my dad is in this video. He doesn't talk alot about his 2 tours in Vietnam, but he's my hero for doing it and anyone who served overseas should be revered as a hero as well! God bless them all!!

My younger brother was in Seal Team 1. I was very proud of him. Today he is a 70 year old bad-ass. We have 3 Purple Hearts between us. Proudly served!
20th century SEALs: quiet professionals
21th century SEALs: Book deals, Podcasts, and "motivational speaking"
@samurai42086 If they wanted to stay quiet they would. You don’t hardly ever see Delta guys doing those things.
There's a lot of Vietnam vets doing podcasts & books these days. John Meyer (the SOG guy) has been on the Jocko podcasts heaps of times, among others, has heaps of books out too. I love hearing him talk about his experiences.

Same with all special forces now. Nobody even knew what the SAS was until a team assaulted the Iranian Embassy hostage seige in 1980. I'm not surprised though, since our governments don't pay them very much and once you leave the forces, you're completely cast aside and forgotten about. It's all very well and good people endlessly and habitually just saying "Thank you for your service." But thank yous don't take care of you in psychological trauma. Thank yous don't pay the rent and bills. We also would rather vote in loud, crass politicians who just blow hot air and talk about patriotism and everything while not actually doing anything real for all these people they claim to have such respect for. We're all so easily conned and cajoled with the politics and the political personalities, while in reality completely ignoring the practical realities of what they really do for society.
In the UK, special forces soldiers have the highest suicide rates of all the forces. They're massively pushed and trained until they almost die to do what they're made to do for "the country" (usually these days you're doing things for multinational corporations interests), and they're drummed up into a psychological frenzy of achieving an elite military status, but once you've been used up, they don't give a toss and you're left to rejoin society with no useful qualifications beyond scrabbling for private security work. However, if you're f-ed up from all the trauma and can't go back into private security work, you have to train to be a postman or a cleaner or whatever else normal people with no qualifications have to do to survive. After all they've been through and done and felt part of, they'd rather just kill themselves.
Name one active duty seal who’s writing books or doing podcast.........I’ll wait.
Great documentary. As an old soldier, it always breaks my heart to see a young widow accepting a medal for her soldier, who never came home to her.

I love how we did PT in boots back in the day. Today we get lush shoes and shorts, and the PT standards are still ridiculously low.
How fucked up are your lower joints and hips, though?
Yeah and doing pt in runners rather than boots every day preserves your joints so you have lower injury rates and people are Ready for war
I served from 2003-2007 and we PT'd in boots and utes on occasion.
I still have the worn out combat boots I wore in SEAL training.

As a boy growing up in the Texas Hill Country I was fortunate enough to become friends with a Vietnam Veteran SEAL who lost the use of his legs due to an underwater explosion. “Special Forces” is often wrongly used as a broad term, but that’s what SOF (special operations forces) is for. Green Berets ARE Special Forces. No other unit in the American Military is referred to as “special forces” except Green Berets. Not putting you on blast or anything, just saw it as a learning moment. Lots of people do it, so it’s a pretty common mistake. I didn’t even get it until AFTER I did 5 years in the Marine Corps.

I have some information for you: the episode expanded on the aftermath of the disappearance of these SEALS. Years after, fisherman from off the coast of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic, would get sharks caught in their nets and would die. When the sharks were cut open, there was still the Navy SEALS equipment inside; goggles, flippers, even a still fully loaded MP-5 sub machine gun. They showed news reel footage from those Islands when it was discovered what the sharks had in them.

to be fair I really do love the Shawn Ryan Show lol
...granted the commercials and promotions are pretty fucking annoying, but being a former SEAL, he gets the opportunity to interview some of the best our country has to offer... guaranteed DJ Shipley wouldn't have spoken to ANYBODY else on camera about what he's been through if it weren't for Shawn Ryan... Lol I get it though
Something about these “old” SEALS………..nothing quite like them
“In the best wars, the best mans."💪
Outstanding Troop
That phrase "other little devices " is chilling.
God bless America 🇺🇸
Wow that was really good. Enjoyed it thank you for posting. Semper Fi!
To show a African American officer training an all white unit back in 1969 was already a huge shock for most people in that time.
Definitely was.
I'm feeling the urge to play MGS:Snake Eater
I remember hearing this story of SEALs in Vietnam, how the Vietcong were afraid of SEALs because they didn't fight like your average Army Soldier. But would seem to just appear out of nowhere and then disappear again like ghosts. In fact the SEALs had struck so much fear into the Vietcong that the VC called them, "Devils with Green Faces" giving the SEALs an almost unnatural phantom like spectral aura about them. One VC Soldier shared this story of going into a VC Generals bunk to wake him up and he found the general dead with his liver laying next to him. As he looked closer he could see there were actual bites taken out of the General's Liver. The SEALs had left them a message. The Soldier said, "I knew in that moment that the Devils with Green Faces had come in the night." and a shiver went up his spine as he was gripped with fear. (end quote).. But, you could easily see the psychological torment and anguish the SEALs put the VC through. The VC were terrified of them.
Just like the Australian SAS. They were highly feared by both VC and the NVA that they were called Phantoms of the jungle. One NVA officer said that "they hated the Australian SAS, because they make comrade disappear very quickly" Even our normal infantry units were not well liked because we fought them at there game, guerrilla warfare. Us Aussies where no joke in Vietnam.
The vc killed a lot of them too. The vc were scared of anyone. They put in work out there.
@@144Souldier Actually the Navy Seals have the smallest casualty rate of the entire Vietnam war, so No. The VC didn't kill a lot of them. But it's true what you said though. The VC WERE scared of anyone.
The SEALs become more like the VC then the VC themselves and experts in guerrilla warfare
@@144Souldier Wouldn't say they were scared of your typical infantryman. They usually ran circles around them, with superior knowledge of the terrain, superior NLL discipline, superior mobility. You could smell, hear and see a G.I. from miles away. Frogmen, though... that's a different story.
Use this film. Make you strong and determined.
