What is the aim of a System Design Interview in a TPM Interview cycle? It is held to give candidates-such as programmers, designers, developers, and software engineers-the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise in the field by using their skills to solve a real-world issue that an organisation might be facing.
System design interviews are a challenge to see how well you perform as a group and how you solve technical problems using open-ended questions to come up with the best possible solutions. A system design interview is a part of a TPM Interview that examines the problem-solving and system-designing processes in order to assist clients. It's your chance to convince the hiring manager and future team that you're a valued asset by demonstrating your talents and experience in a significant manner. Even though these questions are manageable, they can be difficult if you haven't thoroughly prepared for them.

Can a person with non IT background become a TPM ?

Hey Ali - that depends on what you mean by an IT background.
If you mean you don't have an engineering degree; that's alright - a lot of TPMs pick up technical skills through past experience.
If you mean you've never worked in a technical context before - you'll struggle with the interviews; most companies have an explicit technical interview to filter for technical skills. This usually involves System design and architecture questions, and sometimes other technical skills which could be relevant to the role. If you aren't comfortable in conversations such as this; the interview process will prove challenging. I'd recommend looking at Program Manager roles in this context; which still let you leverage your organizational, program and operational skills while relying much less on technical know-how.
      Hope this helps!

Hey Hema, Thanks for your feedback. We are extremely sorry that you found the background music distracting. We won't be able to remove that in the current video, but we will make sure to use background music cautiously.

Can you please share some resources to help with "Build" your knowledge part? I have worked as a Technical Product manager and targeting for TPM roles but don't have much experience in designing the systems.

"Interviews are like socks. You want to show off the texture, but all the interviewer can see are the holes".
Loved this characterization, and it made me laugh because it's so right. Thanks for sharing :)

Hey there - would this be useful? We recently put together a post on system design sessions; it's targeted at software engineers but I suspect it will also be relevant for TPMs :)
