    This may be simple for you sir but I am here to tell you that you are a godsend to new IC-2730 users! Such a great video. Short and simple, got me up and running painlessly. Do not hesitate to make more! Thank you. 73 KC1TRB

    Great Video Rob! I was in Sioux Falls this morning so I brought a cheap HT transceiver I got on Amazon. It's the Quansheng UV-K5 that's been getting a lot of attention on YT this past year. I did update the firmware to something else.
    It is a good exercise to learn how to program the radios you have so I opened my Repeater book app on my phone and started programming in the local Sioux Falls repeaters. I ran into a net too. That was refreshing to see a group of local hams actually using a repeater. The radio can also listen to the air band. I got it for $24. I had a blast since my wife was shopping and I was sitting in the car waiting on her.

    Love the video. Want to now run out and add the icom to the radio stable as that would be a great addition to the shack. Tip? Replace the pencil with a rubber pointer finger :)

      It's a good radio...I almost bought a second one recently but went for the ftm300 instead and am kind of regretting that decision. The ftm300 is a great radio but lacks one feature the icom has that I use quite a bit...stay tuned for more. Oh, and the pencil is one of my signature items just like the license plates so it's gotta stay😄

    Great video. I have an ICOM 880H. It's been a few years since I programmed it, but I'm sure it's very similar, so this might be helpful.

    Thanks so much for this video! I'm new to ham and just bought a 2730. This video has helped a lot! I do have one question though. In the video i saw you set the offset to duplex +. Don't you also have to indicate the specific offset? I see there is an offset option in the menu. I would think that when manually programming from Repeaterbook this would also need to be set. Mayne I'm wrong. Again, im super new to all this. Just trying to understand. Thanks again!

      The default offset of 600khz will work for most repeaters so it doesn't have to be changed each time you program a memory. You only have to change it when there is a non standard offset

    I love your easy to understand videos, thank you. I subscribes and liked. I do have a question on name/frequency display. Is there a way to move easily between displaying the frequency or the name. Sometimes I forget the frequency if I don't use it much. KI7PMA Dan

      I think you can switch but I can't recall the keystrokes as I'm at work right now. If you search up a copy of the manual it's probably there

    Rob, Great how-to. Everything went exactly as you said UNTIL I tried the “Call” function. Long pressing the M/R button selects C0 and C1, but they need to be changed from factory presets. The manual says they can be changed but is very vague as how to do this. What is the procedure to set C0 to 146.52 and C1 to 446.00?

      @SevenFortyOne  6 місяців тому

      I don't have my radio in front of me right now but I think its the same as setting a memory channel - you just need to select C0 or C1 instead of a channel# when selecting what channel to write to.

      Do you have a ham radio license? If not that's the place to start. Check out ham study.org for info on getting your license.

    I have a repeater that has 2 different dpls for tx/rx.. can I do this manually or need a computer? I even tried the tx on channel A and the recieve on B but wasn't hearing anything, the tone menue options kinda confuse me as well... any ideas? Please .. . . .

    • @SevenFortyOne
      @SevenFortyOne  7 місяців тому +1

      You can definitely do it with ctcss so I'd think it should work with dcs too. Dcs isn't used here so I've not tried it myself

    • @HUGH_JHANIS
      @HUGH_JHANIS 7 місяців тому

      @SevenFortyOne I figured it out...! Lol all you do with dcs is put the tx code, then in first option of menu under tone, scroll and choose. "dtcs.off" uses your dcs then opens the encoder to accept anything comming back in... woooooo...
