Romania's Beggar Bears on the Transfagarasan Highway

A clip from www.bearsuncovered.com showing drivers feeding bears on Romania's Transfagarasan Highway, and taking videos with their phones.
20 bears beg here daily on a 30 km stretch of road. We showed this video to bear experts and those living with bears from around Europe, and filmed their reactions.

Oh yes, let's take some advice from Italian bear specialists, where bears are almost gone, less than 100 individuals living in a wild, while Romania has over 8000.
First of all there are around 200 bears in Italy in three different areas.
Second of all regardless of the number the situation is similar, bears live in proximity to human settlements, so the advice it's the same.
Third the species is the same.
Fourth it only takes 1 bear to end you no need for 8000.
Fifth a "specialist" studies animals regardless of their gegographical location, just cause he is from Italy dosen't matter
Why not? It's not really the fault of Italian bear specialists that bears were hunted to extirpation in Italy... there are actually many issues even here when it comes to bears' management, like the continued lack of bear-proof trash cans in municipalities, but that's really the fault of the provincial and municipal administrations, not the bear experts. Getting a dangerous animal like a bear habituated to people's presence, associating man with food, is never going to turn out well.

There are many bear attacks in Romania and many are not on Transfagarasan or roads like that they are in countryside, there was a sheeperd attacked by a bear and he was not fed by people(not a "beggar bear")
More than that i see that Romania is like a big zoo for bears to be sent in, i do not know if you know but a few weeks ago in Italy was an incident with a bear and he was almost sent or really sent in Romania soo...

There are many bear attacks in countryside (not near to Transfagarasan to be fed by people), few days ago there was a sheeperd attacked by a bear,they are destroying the crops...
And more i see that Romania is like a big zoo for bears, i do not know if you know but there was a bear attack in Italy and he was nearly sent or really sent in Romania soo...

Never underestimate the stupidity of some people. Training bears to come out onto a road in front of traffic - putting the bear and potentially people at risk for the sake of a video? Seriously, some people really are a waste of space

"some people" - As a doctor who works with people all the time, I'd say most people is the correct statement. Most people are incredibly stupid, and the dumber they are, the smarter they think they are.
They are starved, they have very little food to eat in Romanian forests. The few forests that are left 'cause many of them were cut down. That's why bears are begging for food. It's a dramatic situation, both for bears and people.
You misinform or have bad intentions. There are a lot of bears, the strong bears chase away the weak ones and they end up in cities where they create a lot of problems and attack people. No country in Europe wants them because they are not smart enough to destroy their tourism.
"Selfishness" lmao - how selfish of Romania to pass a law that preserved their bear population to be big enough, to have bears come out on the road for people to see sometimes? While other countries clearly exterminated their bears to be a rare sight.

Our bears in Slovakia might look overpopulated and aggresive towards people in a few situations, but I would rather keep them as they are instead of making a similar road circus like the man said or feeding them intentionally from the cars?

The problem now is, that the bears got used to humans and go even inside urban areas. And because of that, the romanian gouverment passed a law to kill all bears within 1 km of populated areas. So yeah, those bears that got used to get feed by people will be shot.

Just heavily tax people who come for the bears. It'd be $ for conservation and the country. Those people would gladly pay. They're coming regardless anyway.
Yes, the fine system needs to be improved. Right now it's a mess. Everyone who takes pictures of bears up close and feeds them should face a fine. But they need to be 'caught in the act". Best idea would be for CC cameras to catch people doing this, and find their number plates, like traffic violations, then fine them. This is expensive though
