Thanks for this. My dad gave me his old Nikon FG that he bought long ago. I decided to press the shutter button and the mirror went up and didn't come back down.
I replaced the batteries, because I was sure they were dead. I had no idea if they would have anything to do with it, but there was nothing else to do! But even after replacing them, the mirror stayed up.
So, I googled the problem and your video was the first thing that came up. I didn't even need to watch it, I just read the description: so I moved the shutter control to M90 and B and the mirror came right down.
Thanks a million!
I scoffed at the video title at first but then he showed me how exactly to release the mirror and I then I finally heard that satisfying shutter sound. Fantastic video, thank you for your help, what a cool camera this is.
"The exception being the M90 and bulb modes. " was my solution to opening the shutter without a battery in my Nikon FG! Thank you.
Love the tip about switching it to bulb, good trick to remember out at the flea market
Dudeeeee, thank you so much for posting this, I was going nuts thinking my camera had died!
Wonderful video. Big help as well, showing how the batteries should go in. Keep it up! I just got an FG and needed to test it out.
Youre the best man... thank you for making this video, i got to make my nikon fg to work! i was asbout to sell it for parts lol.
You just saved me so much time and frustration!
My camera was like this and I couldn't figure out how to get the mirror down until this video so thank you!!!
I don't know if you still read these or reply, but everything you said worked like a charm. As soon as I hit M90, the shutter closes, but as soon as I try using any speed, shutter stays open and does not close. Any ideas?
Thanks bro! Worked like a charm. Much appreciated.
I changed the batteries previously. It worked. But then when the problem appeared again, the battery thing didn't work
Thanks! Just like a lot of the other commenters you saved the day for a novice!
This worked, thank you so much for posting this extremely helpful and straightforward video!
I bought new batteries (twice), but looks like it’s stuck on 1/1000 or 1/500 shutter speed. Do you know maybe why it’s not working good? Also the red lamp is on always on 1/125 n 1/60.
I knew it was the batteries but after replacing them couldn’t recall how to unstuck the advance / shutter
Thank you!
dude, when its opened while i'm changing the shutter, my jaw just dropped. thank you so much HAHAHAHAHHA
All this time I thought I broke my late grandmothers film camera and it just needed batteries. Little bit of a panic attack
I got mine from my late grandmother as well. She passed about three weeks ago :/
Thanks. That worked a treat.
I got what seems like 2 problems: the shutter is stuck up and I am unable to turn the speed dial; it is in "A" mode. I can also not turn the advance lever. The batteries have been replaced, but no success. Any ideas will be appreciated.
The shutter might be jammed or there could be another mechanical problem. It's not hard to remove the bottom plate and do a visual inspection. Not like you're going to hurt anything.
My shutter lever is stuck ... any idea how to fix this?
That solved my problem. THANK YOU
I have the same exact problem on my minolta but the batteries are in and the light checking thing on the side is working so idk what to do?
You are awesome!!! Thanks for save my life!!!
I had the same issue with 1/500 above but mine was FM2, any ideas? i wanted to try fix it myself instead of sending it for repairs
Thanks, bud!
Thank you!
Thanks, you solved my problem
Omg you saved me.
A better option for cleaning messy battery contacts and other controls prone to getting gunked up over time: I use commercial 'electronics cleaner' specifically made for cleaning electronic contact points without the risk of further corrosion or shorting out internal circuitry..it is non-aqueous based. Of course it requires judicious application..just a little bit will do.
This was great! Thanks!x
Great tip! Thank you.
replaced the batteries and camera still has shutter locking as I engage the trigger. however, when i play it into M90 or B mode the shutter drops down. anyone able to help me?
Check the battery compartment for any corrosion. If there is, you can clean it with a rag dampened with distilled white vinegar.
@@OutsidetheShot looks clean as if it were brand new. Anything else you might think it could be?
@@danielreisinger105 The next step would be to remove the bottom plate and see if there are any broken solder joints or jammed mechanical parts.
how long do these batteries last? i got new ones 5 months ago and it’s already dead again
Not sure about this camera. But on my nikonos v. It is recommended to change batteries every 2 to 3 rolls of film. If you leave the camera in any setting other then m90 then they will slowly drain while not being used. So take them out or leave the camera in m90. Lastly sr batteries vs lr batteries there is a difference with their composition. So ensure you are using the right ones.
They last about 6 months for me, but it probably depends on how much you use it.
it helped. thanks....
this really helped, thanks!!!
This was insanely helpful! Thank you!
Thanks so much I just got mine on amazon and I thought I broke it already
yessss this worked, thank you
YOURE THE GOAT MY FG WOULDN'T MOVE FILM FORWARD BUT SWITCHING IT TO M90 RELEASED IT AND NOW IT WORKS AGAIN!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR CUTTING TO THE CHASE!
