Soaring with the electric Openppg SP140 on a little rock at a beach in Sardinie

Soaring is an incredibly safe and soothing way of paragliding. If you are soaring on the coast you are assured that you are always flying in a nice steady sea breeze. The chance of collapsing is then zero. There are many places in the world where you could soar beautifully. But it is often difficult to find a suitable place to start from. Most ideal starting spots are often completely inaccessible. How nice then to start from an easy and safe place with a soar aid motor, for example the SP140 from Openppg. But there is a much bigger problem at most soar spots. Very often there are no safe landing spots along the coast. I am not talking about the Netherlands with its beautiful sandy beaches, but coastal areas where many rocky slopes merge into the sea. If the wind drops there, there are no safe landing spots at the bottom of the rocky soar slope. Either you end up in the sea or you hit the rocks. How nice then is it to engage your soar aid motor when suddenly the wind dies down? See here a soar video of me using the SP140 from the American Openppg. In the beginning of the video I have the SP140 soar aid motor turned off and I am just soaring in the elevator belt of the soar slope and further on in the video you can see that I turn on my electric soar aid motor briefly to regain altitude. For me this is the most ultimate methode to enjoy flying.
Soaren is een ongelofelijke veilige en rustgevende manier van parapente vliegen. Als je aan de kust aan het soaren bent dan ben je ervan verzekerd dat je altijd in een mooie gelijkmatige zeewind vliegt. De kans op inklappers is dan nul. Er zijn heel veel plekken op de wereld waar je prachtig zou kunnen soaren. Alleen is het vaak moeilijk om een geschikte plek te vinden van waar af je makkelijk starten kan. De meeste ideale startplekken zijn vaak volledig ontoegankelijk. Hoe mooi is het dan om te starten vanaf een makkelijke en veilige plek met een soarhulpmotor, bijvoorbeeld de SP140 van Openppg. Maar er is nog een veel groter probleem bij de meeste soarplekken. Heel vaak zijn er langs de kust geen veilige landingsplekken. Ik heb het dan niet over Nederland met zijn prachtige zandstranden, maar over kustgebieden waar veel rotshellingen overgaan in de zee. Mocht de wind daar wegvallen dan zijn er geen veilige landingsplekken onderaan de rotsachtige soarhelling meer. Of je beland in de zee of je klapt op de rotsen. Hoe mooi is het dan om je soarhulpmotor aan te spreken wanneer ineens de wind wegvalt? Zie hier een soarvideo van mij met de SP140 van het Amerikaanse Openppg. In het begin van de video heb ik de SP140 soarhulpmotor uitstaan en ben ik gewoon in de liftband van de soarhelling aan het soaren en verderop in de video zie je dat ik mijn electrische soarhulpmotor even aanzet om weer hoogte te maken.

Wow! Firstly let me say, that frame when you’re initially approaching the tower could easily be a scene from a James Bond movie 👏
Secondly , it just so happens I ordered one myself , don’t have it yet , and I wanted to ask you what’s the torque compensation. Is it noticeable and, does it require effort from the pilot to counter the movement?
