I can't believe he stayed calm enough to not only take these unforgettable photographs but to lay on top of them to protect them with full knowledge that this was his last act on Earth and he made it a heroic one, wow just WoW 😲😳😢
Portland here. Mt. St. Helen's eruption was like nothing I've ever experienced. It was eerie, with thick ash covering everything for days...it affected the atmosphere, that I can't explain...
There is no telling but he thought he was well in the safe zone of what they predicted the eruption to be. But they were wrong and it was much larger than anticipated it’s amazing how he knew he was going to die and didn’t panic. I don’t think that would be possible for most people to do myself would have been terrified one second I’m feeling safe doing my job and next I’m realizing I’m not safe and I’m about to die. It’s just amazing how he proceeds that accepted it and choose to do what he did
He didn't go there with the intent to film until death but when he saw that he would not have the chance to escape, he made sure that his death wouldn't be for nothing by saving what he came for.
This guy wasn’t attempting suicide. The volcano erupted and he was in an area that was going to be wiped out so he had no chance of escaping. Therefore, he took those pictures in the hopes that someone would find them as a way of saying goodbye. Thankfully, someone did find them.

Right!!! It’s such a crazy story.
Yeah, some people have balls.
🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
Incredible
what's heroic about dying unnecessarily for some photos? The eruption and affected area was forecasted days in advance

I can’t even imagine!
Could be why "global warming" became more noticeable around then. 🤔
What a horrific way to die. That’s what grit and toughness look like. Doing what needs to be done knowing you won’t survive. Rest in peace.
How long would it have taken from the time of eruption to him being engulfed?
I’m actually not sure! All I know is that it took 17 days to find him after the eruption 😞
As sad as that is, at least he was found!

some estimates put the pyroclastic flow between 120-190 mph. Assuming 11 miles he would have had 17 minutes @190 mph. Or less if he was closer.
@@acasualviewer5861 He was only 4 miles away.
@@acasualviewer586117 minutes and he was found 17 days later 😮
👏 Amazing
Thank you!
🎉🎉🎉🎉
He took alot more. Its a sequence of the entire eruption.
Omg I've never heard about him laying on his camera 😮
His car was found and it was fine. If he had made it back to his car he would've been okay :(
That’s actually so sad :(
not really, since pyroclastic flows travel in access of 250-350 mph and along with the ash itself wouldve killed him either way.
No! No! No!
I'm sorry but these captured camera shots of Mount St Helens erupting weren't worth sacrificing oneself for..
In his defense I don’t think he knew it was going to erupt, let alone have the chance to make it away safely by the time it happened
Legend either way
