A great resource to learn more about the "NH" vs "Ñ" pronunciation difference is from the Tá Falado podcast: www.coerll.utexas.edu/brazilpod/tafalado/lesson.php?p=19
It's a very subtle difference--Brazilians will 100% understand you if you pronounce it like the "Ñ". There are probably some parts in Brazil that do pronounce it that way, but this video was meant to show the typical pronunciation you're likely to come across. Obrigado! :)

Awesome. I knew something nasal was happening with NH but wasn't sure* and Ive been in Brazil for 3 months 😂

@DecodingWordswithAndrew Thanks a lot! I already hear a difference in how I say NH and I'm in Brazil so a diminutive is used every few words 😄

I only had two years of Spanish at school. Now I have a Brazilian girlfriend and I'm still stuck on the Spanish pronunciation of some words. But, my girlfriend has to learn German first and I will learn/ pick up Portuguese from her.

You're a legend. As a Spanish speaker, the external view of both languages brings a lot of useful perspective to me. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Indira, but I can't take credit for it--there are some great resources out there that do mention it, like the Tá Falado podcast and the amazing book Modern Brazilian Portuguese Grammar! :)

    Muito obrigada, Andrew 💚
    P.S.
I’ve been suffering from ”withdrawal symptoms” since I haven’t gotten around to studying this wonderful language for a couple of weeks 😂
