The throat signing certainly was unexpected for me, and I loved it! Beautiful performance, including the movement of the singers, very gentile and slow so as to make their voices the star rather than themselves.
Absolutely amazing. Breathtaking. Even with only the 4 basic voices it was already marvelous, because the 4 singers have really beautiful voices, but then came the fifth voice and took it one level above. I've never seen anyone do the throat singing with such ease, nor use it in an arrangement in such a musically meaningful way. And on top of this all, here comes a second throat singer to canon with the first, over their heavy staedy bagpipe-like drones. I am shocked out of this beauty...

I honestly hate the nursery rhymes of this song because they don't do it justice. It's such a beautiful song that shouldn't be simplified. Also, I didn't know what throat singing was until now! Amazing!

If that instrument is the same instrument I think it is, where it sits in the back of your throat, I actually didn't you you could get a beautiful tone like that out of it. Those instruments still scare me because performers have admitted to swallowing them all the time.

It's not an instrument. They're using a vocal technique called "throat singing." Google and UA-cam it to learn more.
It's very interesting to hear throat singing in a French song. It is a traditional art of my people.
