I love how the main three villains in this game - Li, Doc Ock, and Norman - are given such depth. None of them are evil just because they're villains and therefore evil. Li wants revenge for the deaths of his parents, Otto is a good person corrupted by the neural interface that makes him act out on his desire for revenge against Norman for trying to drive him out of business, and Norman creates Devil's Breath because he wanted to save his wife's life and now he wants to save his son's.
@@jarmoliebrand2005 I wouldn't even say that Norman is a "villain" in this game. He creates Devil's Breath, but not to hurt anyone - he's trying to save his family. He does shut Otto's business down, but they have a rocky history, and he's trying to get Otto to come work for him. He does hire Sable International but Li did try to kill him and blew up City Hall. He does blame Spidey for the breakout but that's political spin. In the comics it's often said that the Green Goblin is not the real villain - it's Norman Osborn.
If you look at the blueprint that you find in Norman's home of the combat mask, it is labeled "ASM 14". That is a reference to the 14th issue of the Amazing Spider-Man comic, where the Green Goblin first appears. There is also a drawing of a glider on this blueprint - this is a reference to the glider that the Goblin flies on in the comics.
I do find it very interesting that in this universe the Doctor did not become Doctor Octopus until Peter was 23 a good 7 years after he became Spider-Man. Norman Osborn as well who is yet to become the Green Goblin at least from our understanding as the Goblin is never mentioned. This is very different to the comics where both Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin are both early villains of Peter Parker, Other villains in the game like Rhino, Electro, Vulture, Shocker, Kingpin and Scorpion all seem to be villains who appeared when Peter was 15 so these follow closer to the comics. The room you entered does have alot of Easter Eggs pointing towards the Green Goblin from the prototype mask you picked up to hand grenades all items that could be made into Goblin themed gear for the Green Goblin. Even if they don't do the Green Goblin first they could always do the Hobgoblin and then introduce the Green Goblin.
I think they may have set up that change in Osborn already. I mean it may be pure speculation but knowing that Mr Negative can corrupt people and that Osborn usually becomes the Green Goblin. What if when Li tried to kill him a bit of his corruption latched to Osborn. Specifically through the sword when he charged it and branded his neck
Not every adaptation of Spider-Man has to introduce the villains in the order they were done in the comics. The 90s cartoon introduced Hobgoblin before the Green Goblin. Most adaptations introduce the symbiote and Venom very early, when in the comics this didn't happen until decades later. The Spec Spidey cartoon introduced Tombstone in the first (?) episode, but in the comics Tombstone isn't introduced until decades later. There are many such examples, but this universe's Spidey has fought many supervillains in the 8 years we don't see. The fact that Doc Ock and the Green Goblin weren't introduced in those 8 years isn't a big deal.

I really wish that when you are playing as MJ and you enter the secret lab in Norman's home that the table would not be accessible until you first examine all of the other items in the room. There are so many Easter Eggs, including one (no spoilers) that plays into the post-credits scene. But once you activate the table and find Dr. Michaels' location, it activates the cutscenes and you can't examine anything else in that room after that. In most playthroughs I've watched most players either go immediately to the table or go to it before searching the rest of the room. Oh well.

1:30:34 if u wanna know the answer haha i haven't read the comics myself but i know that the original plot is miles morales has to take over as peter gets killed
This happens in another universe so it was ok for that Peter to die and Miles take over as Spider-Man, because the original comicbook Peter was still alive in the normal comics universe.
@@lucyb1645 Years after that happened in the Ultimate universe in the comics, they destroyed that universe and brought Miles over to the regular (616) comics universe, so now Miles is in the same universe as Peter. So there are two Spider-Men running around, so it gets a bit confusing. It worked better when Miles was in his own universe where Peter died so it made sense for him to call himself "Spider-Man". But when he's in the same universe as Peter it makes no sense for him to call himself "Spider-Man" because there's already an active Spider-Man there. When Wally West got the same powers as the Flash he didn't call himself "the Flash" - he called himself "Kid Flash" so people would know them apart by their different names. Unfortunately, Miles was known as "Spider-Man" in the Ultimate comics universe for so long that it's too late now to rename him.
The one thing about the storytelling in this game that I really don't enjoy is how hard the characters try to sell you on Norman being this horrible person, even though we don't ever really see him do anything intentionally bad. It's to he point that Peter and MJ go out of their way to never give him any credit for anything, come close to insulting him any chance they get and imply that he's uncaring and incompetent. The segment with MJ basically trash-talking Norman while going through the penthouse was especially grating (especially given how shocked she was that Devil's Breath wasn't meant to be a bioweapon), but the worst part was when Peter suggested that Norman would charge a premium for the Devil's Breath cure. It's just too mean-spirited towards a character who was flawed but wasn't a monster. I think it would have been smoother if either the insults were less common or if Norman was actually portrayed the way they spoke of him. There's just not enough payoff for the heavy-handedness in a game that I otherwise think is spectacular. It was only after my third playthrough that I realized that Norman didn't create DB for Harry, but for Harry's mother. Harry saying that his dad had been working on it for ages means that he knew his wife had the disease and was working on a cure since before she died, he was just too late. Also they don't go into this in-game, but Martin was only intended to be at the lab for a consultation concerning his illness and Norman, half believing that Martin was ready for the treatment and half over-eager to perfect his wife's cure, rushed ahead. The reason why the drug turned Martin into Mr. Negative and makes other people sick is that Martin, like Peter and Miles, is probably a "Mutate." Mutates, unlike Mutants, aren't born with a specific gene that manifests powers later, but have a specific genetic make-up that makes them more susceptible to outside stimuli. For Peter and Miles, those stimuli were Radioactive Spider bites that would have killed basically anyone else (so, probably a good thing that MJ wasn't bitten). Here's the interesting part: Norman probably thought Martin was ready for the treatment _because_ of his unique genetics, and that makes it all the more tragic.
People that already know Norman (either from the movies or the comics) start this game thinking "well this guy is evil, he's eventually going to become the Green Goblin, he has no redeeming qualities". Then as the game goes on you realize that Norman's biggest "crime" is trying to find a cure for the disease that killed his wife, and is now killing his son. That's his motivation for *everything* he does in this game. Same with Otto and Li. When you first see Otto you think "Oh, this guy will become Doc Ock, he's evil". But he's such a good person for most of the game that when he does turn it's still a surprise. And for Li, when you realize he does the City Hall bombing you think he's just evil, but then you he has a legitimate reason to hate Norman. These three villains have depth and shades of gray - none of them are just evil for the sake of being evil. Also, there's nothing in the game about Li being a mutate/mutant. He was just a sick child who Norman tried out one of his cures on, and it gave him powers. That's it.

@@jhornacek yeah thats what originally confused me the fact that miles calls himself spider-man yet theres already peter

That's it.
