I've seen people of all races critique this choice to raceswap.
Nobody should be attacking the actress. She's just doing a job.
Disney should have just made a new character if they wanted a black mermaid. It would have prevented all the raceswapping criticism and it would send black people the message they deserve their own original characters instead of just left overs.

@@AbsolutelyUnsurePod You made various points. In fact you made various points but in order to push a narrative you attempted to use the one I just negated to give merit to the other one.
I personally could care less about the little mermaid. However this "nit picking" you speak about can be argued for anything.
Since this just happens to be a make believe. I guess a white black panther is fine. Now if you are going to throw in the argument of historical significance. Well you would lose that argument as well because they are placing minorities in time periods where they didn't exist in terms of geographical location all across the board in various programming. So that would be a mute point.
I myself would be classified a "minority" which one? Irrelevant. Anytime I see someone who looks like me being placed in movie and they are horrible actors. I will call it out. I personally prefer seeing someone like me represented well. Not because a company thinks they can profit off some political agenda they may have or at least feel is in play.

They did however have a black mermaid in the little mermaid lore. Not sure why they didn't build upon her character.
Regardless... This is America and if people don't like something, whatever the reason may be. They are free to voice their opinion and speak with their wallets. Same way as you are afforded the right to speak on what you believe their problem may be. Same as I am free to criticize you and make counter arguments to anything you have to say.
