    Thanks, I planted 12 for screening. I hope they get to 15 feet.

    Best way to prune these to encourage more vertical growth? ( prune around the base?) Do it on December and January when I prune my other trees?

    Thank you for mentioning the older leaves losing color, as mine are doing just that while they're going through their spring defoliation, and it's made me so nervous. I did just put down some Holly Tone (I missed the fall/winter application, and perhaps this is why the leaves have lost color). Hoping the leaves green-up soon! Thank you for this video. 🙂

      Thanks for watching. Your new growth should flush out very green.

    How many feet apart on center were these planted? Great video!

      I would have to go measure to be exact but off the top of my head they are at either 8ft or 10ft. Regardless they would grow into a hedge at either of those distances.

      @@Dr.Warren Just about everywhere online says to plant them 5ft apart for a privacy hedge but that just seems too close to me so I planted mine at 10ft apart two years ago. Your hedge is exactly the look that I'm going for so it confirms I made the right decision. Thank you!

    Great information and those trees look great. I just planted mine. I think it is a 7 gal. Should i water in the winter/fall?

      Saturate once a week if you don't get rain.

    Hi there! I need to plant these across my back fence for a privacy screen. It seems that the typical recommendation is to plant them 6' apart. Should they be planted further apart if I hope for them to reach a 20' height? Thanks!

    • @Dr.Warren
      @Dr.Warren  Рік тому

      No, I can think of several examples in my neighborhood where these are used as screens. All the mature ones were planted 6-8 ft apart and they are all in the 15-25ft range.

      @@Dr.Warren If I wanted a hedge on a quicker timeline and planted them 5-1/2 feet apart, would that limit the height they could get? Would they most likely max out at 15 feet tall (or less)?

    I have 25 that were planted 4 years ago. They have only grown about 1 foot. They are space 3 ft apart. What can I do to increase their growth rate? They are healthy but very slow growing. I have been using holly tone twice a year.

      Check your pH with a soil test and make sure they get full sun for max growth.

    20' is the max height? I thought taller. How old are those ones? Thanks for the info.

      I used to sell plants for Monrovia and they have a great database that is pretty accurate. They have it listed as 15-25.

      Once established they are VERY drought tolerant. I've never watered mine outside of the first few months of being planted
