Ashley has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor's degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley's interests are UA-cam, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley's UA-cam channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her UA-cam channel as well as her reach to up-and-coming gardeners.

      Hello. 🤗
I go by Nature boy. An old gypsy woman hung that title on me when I was knee-high to a grasshopper for obvious reasons, lol.🤗
I was just wondering if you have ever had a chance to look into the JADAM natural growing system, the use of JMS, JADAM micro solution, or JLF, JADAM liquid fertilizer???
The Korean father and son that went public with this system, have several free lectures posted on UA-cam.
It's an extremely wonderful, natural alternative for people with very limited income. Teaching, regardless of your area, how to create and use concentrated microbes an natural fertilizers with local resources.

I know you have had a bunch of recent tragedies, I am glad you have found a way to make sence of it all.
Dr Ingham opened my eyes to the wonderful world of the soil food web, even picked up a decent microscope. Could not afford her course, but I gleaned enough from college textbooks to figure out what I was seeing scooting around in my soils and amendments.
I agree, there are really no dead soils, just soils lacking in microbes beyond bacteria. I know when I put a fistfull of wormcastings in the hole I stick my tomato plant in, I am also planting a huge diversity of biology, weather it survives or not is another question.
For example, one drop from a solution of 1 ml of worm castings and 9 ml of water will have thousands of bacteria, multiple dozens of protozoa, nematodes, fungi and microarthropods. This is the soil food web. I do find it in the garden soils, just not so concentrated.
Also agree with diversity of plantings, one you did not mention, perennial roots. I try to keep living roots in all my garden beds 12 months out of the year. The living roots maintain the biology for when you plant in the spring.
Amy, You are awesome, Stay Well!!!

Ohhh, I am so very sorry for your loss… for your losses. That you are able to get out of bed and do stuff amazes me… I’ve gotten totally stuck at times in my life from some rough stuff. My Grandma is someone who taught me to garden, and to keep trucking. When she passed away I didn’t go running for a bunch of her things, but I did pick a little old T shirt of hers that only fits about one and a half of my boobs in it, but its because she wore it in the garden, and it says “The best things in life are found in the garden”. I agree! If I thought that the T shirt would survive any more washes, I’d probably turn it into a pillow, but as it is, I just look at it every once in a while, sigh nostalgically, and keep trucking. I hope you have some great memories that keep you going. You are inspiring to me! 💝💚

Rather than till in organic matter, you could grow a deep rooted covercrop which would be more effective as those roots can go feet deep without shedding your soil via tilling.
A CC can also give you below & above ground organic mass.

If iwere to gather toots with some soil on them from healthy areas of my yard and garden and soak them in some water with molasses in it for a few minutes, swishing them around a bit, then watered my plants with this water, would it add beneficial bacteria and fungi? Would it spread pests? Would it do anything at all? Lol just curious. Ive wondered if root exudates and rhizosphere level mycorrhizae could be harvested this way? Any ideas?

You can grow a covercrop in place, which will give you below & above ground mass. Most gardens benefit from a winter covercrop, which can be winter kill (self-terminating) or winter hardy, which must be terminated mechanically or by hand. (Don't use chemicals aka "burn down.")
The US has the SARE on line covercrop guide. I'm certain there's Canadian equivalent.

evapotranspiration is just evoporation of water because of atmosfer heat + transpiration from the water used by plants when they breathe (because they need water too)
that is what i know, how about you guys?
edit: microorganism need to breathe too, they need water too so.... that count as transpiration isn't it?

Better help, that brings up a question do the soil microbes have empathy? I mean does our presence affect them that way i guess i heard something about garden plants notice our presence so....how bout the mycoverse guys...

I’m not sure! I think myth busters maybe did an episode on the plants idea.

What I heard her say was, please do not culture your soil microbes at home in a petrie dish. Some of them are harmful.

From my limited exposure to Dr. Ingham she seems like a borderline MLM grifter promoting science-adjacent "eco-methods" selling courses, certifications, microscopes, lab services, training courses to teach courses, and a bunch of other junk. The worst part is she uses her pedigree and her soil science background to craft really good sounding nonsense and half-truths that's convincing to many people.

Yeah, generally the chemical scientists accept the biological science, but they aren't trained in it, so they have no real understanding of soil function
