+Metalizationer. Hey! im looking forward to Yooka laylee too!, disnt know that was made me former rare employees!, neither did i know it was its succesor to banjo kazooie, I loved that game!!. Anyways this totally would be my very first time even playing a yooka laylee game.
Yeah I dunno if you were around in the 90s or not but underrated is definitely not a word I would use to describe it. I wouldn't say it's overrated either. Definitely a game series that's received a ton of praise and deserves every bit of it.
I honestly think you should have done this as a series... You could easily pick top ten from each game, and then the overall top ten... Should also do top ten bosses (I can't recall if you have done that already)
I need to play Tropical Freeze for Switch in its entirety still but from what I've seen either Trop Freeze or DKC 3 are the second best DKC game. For me probably still DKC3 since I played it so much as a kid. Original DKC is good but so inferior to 3 except for Kiddy who I am only fine with but I don't need to have him there
I think people overlooked DKC3 at the time of its release due to the N64 and original Playstation being released around the same time and I guess people were just bored by the series by that point (two main games for SNES and one spin-off in DK Land for Gameboy), which is unfortunate I feel because it had a lot of creatively designed levels, ways to increase the challenge and just offered more variety (like exploring the overworld map).
Ghostly Grove from DKC 2. It's mostly the setting. Forest Interlude is my favorite VGM of all-time. I love the visuals with sunlight poking through the thick canopy. The place does feel enchanted, as the Sound Test suggests. The high-pitched sounds of the ghost ropes add further to it. It's not as annoying as Gusty Glade, and Web Woods would be better without the red fog.
It made me happy to see so many levels of Tropical Freeze here, a lot of people ignored that game because it was "new", personally, is one of the best I played, along with the second and the first game
xXChizuruChanXx it's still a top seller on WiiU, and it's getting a second shot on Switch. I agree "Tropical Freeze" was an improvement over "Returns."
What about that one in DKC2 in the Lost World where you have to be all the animals. Or how about that one in DKC3 where you're underwater and have to keep the fish fed so he won't eat you.
No, Klobber Karnage is the worst level of DKC, That damn barrels and you need a goddamn precision. Animal antics is easy, only the Squawks part was goddamn hard.
You know what else is great about "Tanked-Up Trouble"? When you lose you can make Diddy willingly jump to his death in a ragequit. I still haven't finished Tropical Freeze, but my personal favorite was always "Rattle Battle", if for no reason other than the awesome music.
Did I miss something? After watching several of these Top 5, 10, 15, and so on of Donkey Kong Country levels, most of the top 10 in this one are the ones other people rank as Most Frustrating, Challenging, Difficult, Annoying, Hated and so on. Never are they ranked in a Top 5, 10, 15, 20, and so on in a positive way. This is the first video I've seen where they are.
The very first stage in Donkey Kong for the SNES is my all time favorite followed by the snap level in the same game. It's the music and the background graphics that definitely set the tune.
You had to amass all the DK coins to play the level, and walkthroughs didn't exist back then so few people did the grind to get to that level, as good as it was
while yes Animal Antics was a great level, most people get a bad taste in their mouth once they hear that the next challenge involves...*sigh* Squawk...
that whole zone had great boards man, I loved the one with the big truck tires you jumped on, basically when I was a kid I had to collect all the coins which was so hard w no internet no guide, and having a 9yr old mind.. now I figured out just beat the game, save, and have enough for only one entry, then you can just play any of the levels just don't save. when your done restart console and just pick another one. I know its cheap but now in days I just want to blaze through the levels, and not play a mini game every two min. but as a youngling I wasted endless hours doing it right.
Great list. One of the beehive levels from DKC2 would have been a nice honourable mention, but as a long-running DKC fan, I'd say this list is pretty great.
Oscar Ramirez I remember this part where if you didn't time it right and press the "Stop" there would be a crocodile right on the edge where you landed from a jump...
This is my favorite Mojo video so far!!! Bramble Blast is ALSO one of my favorite DKC stages. I am primarily a fan of DKC2 and DKC3, but I am a veteran of all three, and all of the secrets of all three games are embedded into my brain for the rest of my life...just like Legend of Zelda and Zelda: A Link to the Past!
I know they couldn't make the entire list DKC2 levels (not that it'd be inaccurate if they did because it's the best entry in the series) but Screech's Sprint at least deserves an honorable mention.
Decent list. My personal favorites are the Toxic tower, Animal antics and the lost world levels from DKC2. Also the Gloomy Gulch levels. Loved being Squitter the spider taking kremlings down.
+Kaido ™ troll stfu, nothing makes someone cringe more than acting like their favorite UA-camr. What are you like 11? Btw dashie doesn't even hate donkey Kong in reality considering he owns the complete dkc series
Love this franchise so much. Recently got tropical freeze for Nintendo Switch so was nice to see some levels featured in this one. Haven't gotten to those yet though.
For all the 90's kids memes floating around online about stuff that happened in the 2000's, I think remembering DKC from 1-3 should be a pre-requisite to claim such a thing. Classic video game series that blew everyone's minds as to how far graphics could go. The games were all excellent with fantastic soundtracks. The new levels look good too, and the lion king-esque level is really imaginative.
Mine is definitely Rattle Battle from DKC2. The first time playing as a transformed animal buddy...gah! Still amazing to this day! (Not to mention the music starts with a throwback to the King K. Rool battle from DKC1)
There are 4 autoscrollers in this list which basically is the exact opposite of what a platformer is meant to be. Way to many stages from the newer games, I would only have agreed with the "lion king" stage. Blackout basement was a good choice but i still i think stages like misty mine or snow barrel blast should have been mentioned. Dkc2 has plenty better stages then what were mentioned here aswell, Gusty Glade, Ghostly Grove, Parrot Chute Panic ( basically all of world 5 ) as well as lost levels such as Animal Antics. DKC3 is a very gimmicky game but for true platforming I would mention stages like Konveyor Rope Clash, as well as Pot Hole Panic. As a speedrunner of the series I had to be critical and put in my 2 cents about these games =3
+jdark15 I always found them pretty easy, but the ones from Returns are much harder since you one hit and your dead, which suck because if you die your not getting hear that amazing all the way through. Tropical Freeze gives two hits so they are a bit easier.
The most and best and should be Number 1 is JUNGLE HIJINX!! nothing else gave you that love for the DK Country Franchise like the very first level, it opened your eyes to this whole bananas world!!! RESPECT!!
Poison Pond was a challenging level in the Original, I also loved the Rocket Barrel Level in DKCTF where you are flying through the Juicy Jungle. Very good looking level! (Sorry I Forgot the Name)
Thank you for not including "Animal Antics" on this list. It's an novel ideal to have to go through a level as all the animal friends but seeing would've only made me think back on how hard a level it was. Gladly, I saw that it was included on a previous list you guys made.
Man, you guys sure like these wait-and-go levels and autoscrollers. I much prefer the ones where you have more control over the scrolling. But then again DKC has an endless supply of great levels. Cool vid!
It's so AMAZING that there exists a Donkey Kong Level that's actually based on the intro of The Lion King (Grassland Groove), and there's even one for the Plains Of Fire scene from TLK2 Simba's Pride (Scorch 'N Torch)!
DKCR is seriously underrepresented on this list. There were so many good levels. Muncher’s Marathon, Sunset Shore, Music Madness, Hot Rocket, Stormy Shore, and so many more
Wow can't believe "Lockjaw's Locker" from Diddy Kong's Quest didn't make the list. Not only the best music from the series, but the mechanic of water turning into lava would have diffinetly made it my #1
No mention of Rattle Battle in the honourable mentions (but Topsail Trouble gets mentioned)? Rattle Battle had probably the most hype as soundtrack ever xD
Can’t believe the level from DKC 2 with the big bee chasing you didn’t make the list.. also the ice level with the ropes was great also 👍🏼 great list tho
Animal Antics was missing as people said but I always had a soft spot for... Pachyderm Panic, I think it was called? The Krematoa level where you see a mouse and run full pelt through the whole level.
Stampede Sprint, and that is a fun one! I enjoy the Inception quality of escorting Parry to the end so he yields a bonus game, then he's found inside that same bonus game.
Honorable Mentions: all other DKC-Levels.
Except Screech's Sprint.
Amen, DKC (SNES) trilogy for life!!!!
What about crowded cavern, that one sucked. And blast and bounce
Right my wife says Mario is better then dkc and I always fight her on that dkc 2 is one of my favorite games
DKC2 is the best 2D platformer of all time. Not an opinion, fact.
DKC is just one of those franchises that is always a blast to play, never a dull moment and always a great challenge!
Yeah, although some can be very hard.
+Joel Auguste we need hard games like this. Here's looking forward to Yooka-Laylee 😁👍🏼
+Metalizationer. Hey! im looking forward to Yooka laylee too!, disnt know that was made me former rare employees!, neither did i know it was its succesor to banjo kazooie, I loved that game!!.
Anyways this totally would be my very first time even playing a yooka laylee game.
NJ K is the first game
Used to play these games for the soundtrack alone
Lol me 2 especially mining melancholy
The soundtrack? My favourite music is the Lost World music in DKC2 (when you are on the world map).
Mullet345 Black ice battle was perfect
Best music is jungle hijinxs from dkcr
Soundtrack was amazing.
Who remembers Poisonous Pipeline for DKC3? The one where the controls are reversed?
Nathaniel Torres yes! i actually just commented about that one. Great level!
I hated that one as a kid, but I admit it was creative.
Koindozer Klamber. I still have the nightmares...
I suppose that's the same poison that Captain K. Rool shoot at the Kongs, at the last level of DKC2.
fckn hate that one
King K. Rool needs to be in Smash Bros.
OMG yes!
What about Dixie?
+Agustin Leguiza she could be a skin color for diddy
They stopped adding characters also no Bayonetta was perfect 👌🏼
Amen! And brought back for 3 😋
The original 3 had the best soundtrack of any video game ever, period
Have you listened to Tropical Freeze's soundtrack? They brought back David Wise for it.
DKC1 ost kinda bored me. Only liked Island Swing, Fear Factory and Gangplank Galleon
IMHO, DKC2 was by far the best soundtrack!!
Agustin Leguiza I personally only liked about 4 songs from DKC3.
tropical freeze soundtrack is amazing, seriously, listen to it, you wont regret it.
DKC 2 Had the best sound track
I think they all do! - Victoria Justice about the DKC trilogy
Dk3*
You need 50k likes
@@BalTaZar-o6i dkc3
on gba MAYBE.... when they brought David Wise Back...
Stickerbush symphony and lockjaw’s saga were epic. David wise made DKC2 amazing with its soundtrack
Probably one of the most underrated video game series imo.
Underrated? It is known to be one of the greatest side scrollers of all time and in alot of people's opinions including mine number 1.
Yeah I dunno if you were around in the 90s or not but underrated is definitely not a word I would use to describe it. I wouldn't say it's overrated either. Definitely a game series that's received a ton of praise and deserves every bit of it.
So all i learned is i need to play me some Tropical Freeze!!
Yes it's incredible. I truly felt like I was back on the SNES
My favorite game of all time actually
Yeah, if you love DKC like I do you'll love Tropical Freeze. Truly an amazing entry into the series.
Ryshin yes that (and Mario kart 8) was the whole reason I got a WiiU. I'm already anticipating another DKC
Has some amazing graphics!!!
This is why Donkey Kong Country 1,2,3, 64, Returns, and Tropical Freeze are the best games ever made
I honestly think you should have done this as a series... You could easily pick top ten from each game, and then the overall top ten... Should also do top ten bosses (I can't recall if you have done that already)
What about DKC 2's Animal Antics?
that i my #1
i hated this level when i was young, took me a 1000 time to beat to finally being able to beat k. rool a second time
That level is a bitch! Especially the part with the wind. But beating it is always satisfying!
Thats "the level", is so fucking awesome
This video title is not "Top 10 Hardest" XD
Animal Antics is one of the hardest levels I've played in my life!
DKC3 is underated
I need to play Tropical Freeze for Switch in its entirety still but from what I've seen either Trop Freeze or DKC 3 are the second best DKC game. For me probably still DKC3 since I played it so much as a kid. Original DKC is good but so inferior to 3 except for Kiddy who I am only fine with but I don't need to have him there
That’s the worse one in my opinion.. that one is so dry compared to the others
It’s really shame that games today will never be good as this
After part 2 it was disappointing
Ripsaw Rage scared me as a kid.
hahahahah 2
Ghostly Grove from DKC 2. It's mostly the setting. Forest Interlude is my favorite VGM of all-time. I love the visuals with sunlight poking through the thick canopy. The place does feel enchanted, as the Sound Test suggests. The high-pitched sounds of the ghost ropes add further to it. It's not as annoying as Gusty Glade, and Web Woods would be better without the red fog.
Surprised Rattle Battle from DKC2 didn't even get mentioned. Love that level.
I absolutely love Mine Cart Madness.
I never knew making death-defying jumps onto other Mine Carts would be so fun.
Who's watching this without socks?
lol
Me
i have ONLY socks on
I'm also cool lol
You scared me. I thought i saw a bug on the screen
No Ghostly Grove from DKC 2? Ghost ropes and Forest Interlude instantly warm my heart!
DK2 the MINES STAGE, that soundtrack on that level ricks, DK series have outstanding score
Best game EVER! I became a musician because of this game, the OST in those 3 games are masterpieces!
What about that one in DKC2 in the Lost World where you have to be all the animals. Or how about that one in DKC3 where you're underwater and have to keep the fish fed so he won't eat you.
_Animal Antics_ and _Fish Food Frenzy_ respectively.
Toxic Tower from DKC2 is by far the hardest level of the series or at least 2nd to animal antics
I agree with you toxic tower was a tough one. although with the animal one I found the parrot to be the only hard bit in the level cause of the wind.
Yup i fucking rage quit so many times DKC2 was the most addicting gba game since pokemon emerald for at me at least
No, Klobber Karnage is the worst level of DKC, That damn barrels and you need a goddamn precision. Animal antics is easy, only the Squawks part was goddamn hard.
Klobber Karnage is the third level from Lost World in DKC2
Yes, I hate Klober Karnage with a passion. Toxic Tower, Poison Pond, and Snow Barrel Blast are on my shit list too.
You know what else is great about "Tanked-Up Trouble"? When you lose you can make Diddy willingly jump to his death in a ragequit.
I still haven't finished Tropical Freeze, but my personal favorite was always "Rattle Battle", if for no reason other than the awesome music.
A good level was Haunted Hall from Diddy's Kong Quest
Great level, is the only level like that in the game
I just like that clearly DKC2 was the best game. Everyone talks about their favorite level and it always comes from that game.
* sees Bramble Blast on #10 *
* Desubs*
* Doesn't see Gear Getaway anywhere *
* Closes tab *
If you closed the tab, how are you still here? :o
please don't mean this serious D:
+Tee Wurst "Desubs" ?
Is there a difference between unsubbing and desubbing? (sorry, no native speaker)
No. The correct use is unsub. He said it incorrectly with "desub."
I LOVE TIDAL TERROR
yes
The soundtracks for all of these games were all done so well. Great games.
Best platformer series ever since the music and atmosphere give it charm
I fell in love with the underwater stages (nice level design and really nice music)
I love the music in the older ones.
Music Madness (I think that's what it is called) from DKCR should have been an honorable mention
I was hoping it'd be number 1 on this list. Like seeing everything move in sync with the music.
+Joel Auguste I know right
Peetaco Definitely.
I'm surprised they didn't mention it such a great stage!
I'm surprised they didn't mention it such a great stage!
Snow barrel blast, tanked up trouble, and blacked out basement are so absolutely iconic.
Bramble Scramble/Stickerbush Symphony and Grassland Groove I can play all day
also Gusty Gulch
StickerBUSH not brush
LimpShrimp gotcha. Thanks
David Wise actually confirmed that it's both bush and brush.
asims615 source?
The very first stage in Donkey Kong for the SNES is my all time favorite followed by the snap level in the same game. It's the music and the background graphics that definitely set the tune.
Who else thought the mine cart level from Donkey Kong Country should've been in first place?
Maybe, but Rickety Race was honestly more fun, and creative.
Which mine-cart level in particular? _DKC_ had two: “Mine Cart Carnage” and “Mine Cart Madness”.
“Lightning Lookout” & “Poisonous Pipeline” from DKC3 were very cleverly designed. Thought for sure they’d be on the countdown.
where is vulture culture from DKC and animal antics from DKC2?
Indeed, Animal Antics deserved it. That level was simply amazing with all the animals.
And windy brambles one wrong move can cause a tail spin.
Great list. One of the beehive levels from DKC2 would have been a nice honourable mention, but as a long-running DKC fan, I'd say this list is pretty great.
Stop and Go Station should have at least gotten an Honorable Mention. Mine Cart Carnage > whatever #1 was
right! that one was super hard for me :(
ikr
I hated that one but it was enjoyable
Oscar Ramirez I remember this part where if you didn't time it right and press the "Stop" there would be a crocodile right on the edge where you landed from a jump...
This level was a TROLL! I swear
The DKC series needs 1 of these lists for each game honestly...so many good levels!
Toxic tower??
This is my favorite Mojo video so far!!! Bramble Blast is ALSO one of my favorite DKC stages. I am primarily a fan of DKC2 and DKC3, but I am a veteran of all three, and all of the secrets of all three games are embedded into my brain for the rest of my life...just like Legend of Zelda and Zelda: A Link to the Past!
Rickety Race FTW
Matthew Riner I'm glad that one got first.
This iconic franchise. Such memories. The stages were always awesome and fun.
I know they couldn't make the entire list DKC2 levels (not that it'd be inaccurate if they did because it's the best entry in the series) but Screech's Sprint at least deserves an honorable mention.
Theo Marceau I liked that one too.
Decent list. My personal favorites are the Toxic tower, Animal antics and the lost world levels from DKC2. Also the Gloomy Gulch levels. Loved being Squitter the spider taking kremlings down.
that music......... the 3 donkey kong games for snes were truly masterpieces, i feel like a fucking hipster now with all these fucking memories
always my favourite game... Dkc2... PERFECT
Loved Franchise? I'm sure DashieGames wouldn't agree
The dashie army
He hates donkey Bitchass but he loves the game
+Black Manta im glad they didn't bring up peach bitch bitch peach bitch
Dashie is fucking annoying.
The Top 10 Expanded Dongs
For all the 90's kids memes floating around online about stuff that happened in the 2000's, I think remembering DKC from 1-3 should be a pre-requisite to claim such a thing.
Classic video game series that blew everyone's minds as to how far graphics could go. The games were all excellent with fantastic soundtracks.
The new levels look good too, and the lion king-esque level is really imaginative.
Did I miss something? where THE HELL IS THE MINE CART LEVEL ?
yes
god the minecart level, the bane of my Gameboy ported DKC existence
#1 is a mine cart level
Joe Woods Not that one
Seriously!
Eazinn E Dude the first sidescrolling arcade game (Jump Bug) was an auto-scroller. Those kinda levels can be fun too.
Am I the only one who is thinking that the original three DKC games are looking much better than the new ones??
That I was thinking
Bruh the 2 new Returns games are great.
+CrazyMetroid there good but I prefer the old games mostly Country 2
To each their own ^^
That's what I thought until I played the new ones. They're way better than I expected.
And no rocket levels from returns and tropical freeze in this list.... Good, fuck those levels
Get gud scrub, jk
+Joshua Koen me too and the mine cart stages. Everyone said those were hard.
Smithlinkiller hey I tried but its still hard :p
+jdark15 I always found them pretty easy, but the ones from Returns are much harder since you one hit and your dead, which suck because if you die your not getting hear that amazing all the way through. Tropical Freeze gives two hits so they are a bit easier.
The music for the SNES games bring back so many memories.
nice video! taking a poop while watching
The Last Hoodbender everybody poops, why you acting new?
The graphics on dk country games on the SNES were amazing for its time
This is the most incredibly arbitrary list they've made to date.
In which way is it arbitray?
Maybe because these are their opinions and did not made a public research for the most voted levels? Have you heard the word "opinions" before?
I loved this list. Those games are still my favorites of all time.
DK Tropical Freeze is under represented here, it's amazingly filled with great levels!
The most and best and should be Number 1 is JUNGLE HIJINX!! nothing else gave you that love for the DK Country Franchise like the very first level, it opened your eyes to this whole bananas world!!! RESPECT!!
Shut up
Poison Pond was a challenging level in the Original, I also loved the Rocket Barrel Level in DKCTF where you are flying through the Juicy Jungle. Very good looking level! (Sorry I Forgot the Name)
Snow Barrel blast was my all-time favorite. Do a barrel roll!
YES, I loved Rickety Race! My favorite level in ANY DKC game!
Wow. Imagine including Bramble Blast without even mentioning the music...
happy 40th anniversary donkey kong!!! :3
Imagine talking about Bramble Blast and not bringing up its incredible music
And that exactly what they did
That's*
Thank you for not including "Animal Antics" on this list. It's an novel ideal to have to go through a level as all the animal friends but seeing would've only made me think back on how hard a level it was. Gladly, I saw that it was included on a previous list you guys made.
BEAUTIFUL List!!! 💪😍 all of my favorite levels were here except for one.. when they are inside a ship underwater, but still Awesome video!!!. Gj.
Man, you guys sure like these wait-and-go levels and autoscrollers. I much prefer the ones where you have more control over the scrolling. But then again DKC has an endless supply of great levels. Cool vid!
I like all the donkey country games and donkey kong country tropical freeze from Nintendo
Snow Barrel Blast is a level from hell if you don't know the shortcut lol
It's so AMAZING that there exists a Donkey Kong Level that's actually based on the intro of The Lion King (Grassland Groove), and there's even one for the Plains Of Fire scene from TLK2 Simba's Pride (Scorch 'N Torch)!
DKCR is seriously underrepresented on this list. There were so many good levels. Muncher’s Marathon, Sunset Shore, Music Madness, Hot Rocket, Stormy Shore, and so many more
My favorite ones were the pirate ships. I would always feel nostalgic when on those levels.
Lightning Lookout. Mine Cart Carnage. Barrel Bayou. All of the pirate ship levels in DKC 2. Too many memorable ones
thank you so much watchmojo, I love the Donkey Kong Country series. Great Video.
Happy to see the newer games get some love.
Donkey Kong Country 2 - Rickety Race is my favorite
Gear Getaway, Blazing Bazukas, Music Madness, Boulder Roller, Mole Patrol, and Pot Hole Panic are some of my favorites.
Wow can't believe "Lockjaw's Locker" from Diddy Kong's Quest didn't make the list. Not only the best music from the series, but the mechanic of water turning into lava would have diffinetly made it my #1
How on earth is Music Madness from DKCR not on this list? Not even in the Honorable Mentions? No way!
So many good memories playing DK when I was younger with cousins
The Donkey Kong soundtrack has heavily inspired me even to this day! :)
Snakey shanty from dkc2.
That level never gets old no matter how many times I play it.
I'm glad you got rickety Race on no. 1. I cant stop playing that level!
This brought back great memories
For a honorable mention you guys forgot the level Jelly Jamboree as bouncing on those big jello platforms was loads of fun!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D
yup no.1 ius the reason i remember DK and loved it, AND THANK YOU FOR FINISHING IT WITH MY FAVORITE THING ON DK...THE GUITAR SOLO
HOLY CRAP! That Rickety Race secret at the beginning of the entry. I've been playing that level for over 15 years now and I've never known that. :o
Animal Antics was missing as people said but I always had a soft spot for... Pachyderm Panic, I think it was called? The Krematoa level where you see a mouse and run full pelt through the whole level.
If you mean from DKC3, it's called Stampede Sprint. Fun fact, in Japanese it's Unstoppable Ellie.
Stampede Sprint, and that is a fun one! I enjoy the Inception quality of escorting Parry to the end so he yields a bonus game, then he's found inside that same bonus game.
Thank you for this watchmojo! This sh*t is my jam. However, I don't even think I could pick top 10. Sooooo many good levels.
