    I did this and it looks great, and a great value. Thanks for the idea Michael. put the trim on the wall, then painted it. I think it would be easier to paint first, then mount. You will have to do some touch up but probably would take less time. Used a battery operated nail gun with 2 in 18 gauge nails.

    This method was used in my sons apartment 10 years ago and it was beautiful. I thought it was a genius idea! Did you use high gloss white paint for the wall?

      +Devonne P. Yes, a gloss paint was used...good catch.

    Looks great! Like the way it cheats the eye into thinking its one huge crown molding.
    What is the name of the bottom trim piece used? Is it just a decorative molding or chair molding?

    Are there other options than nailing in the ceiling. I want to try but im a lil nervous about it

      ed mack Hi Ed. You can first install blocking at the corner of the ceiling that you can use to nail the crown molding to. You will just cut the blocking to have the same angle formed by the crown molding between the wall and ceiling. This is the best way to install crown...it just takes a little longer.

      +Michael Luckado well ... for the look of your profile picture, you should leave this to your dad before you get hurt ;) lol

    What material was the base cap? PVC?

    • @OpenBookBuild
      @OpenBookBuild 8 років тому

      +dwchandl1 That's right...the base cap was PVC...but we probably would have gone with a finger jointed primed material if they had it in stock at the time.

    I am curious which family have a mitter saw and air pressure nail gun at home? This costs some 500$ to buy , and for what , for installing a crown molding?! This job could be done by simple tools like mitter box for 10$ and stronger glue for the profiles.

      Mitre box works too, but hand cutting is not as clean, straight, sharp and efficient as using a mitre saw. Plus, wall corners are almost usually not 90 degrees, so your mitre box will not work unless you also cope cut, which is also very, very time consuming.

    Would have been a cool, inexpensive look if you smoothed out the texture down to your small trim. then it would look solid but now it just looks like trim. step up your game friends. Carpentry takes more skill than just a chop saw.

      When you say "smooth out the texture" do you mean by sanding?
