  • To promote their only Album to hit #1 in the USA the 3 core members show their final interview for Rap City. See my other interview segment from BETV the last time they showed up in 1993 for Midnight Marauders. This is the full interview with videos edited out. Too bad Concequence (the gifted MC that appears on this album) is not in the interview. The guy giving the interview is a douche bag. It seems as if Rap City was falling off at this time.

I always feel like Phife had a hard time and didn't quite fit in with everyone else. I think he round a rough time around the time for BR&L and the Love Movement but stuck it out and got through. RIP x

He drank too much soda pop.- it killed him (heavy diabetes) and it fogs your brain. I distinctly remember losing interest in Tribe when they did SPRITE Commercials in 1993. I'm heavy anti-corporate and they became instant hypocrites in my books. And stayed that way .. look it Qtip now.. a pale reflection of who he was.. he should have developed in Kanye West! Fell off. .. Phife Dog was a pressure cooker as well, very angry little dude. Plus.. he really didn't have the lyrical skills of his contemporaries.. he added a fun 'carribean' punch every couple verses which framed Q-tips lyrics perfect. So he was part of it, but not THE part.

@@SPINNINGMYWHEELS777 I believe the first three LPs were true Hip-Hop but then they went commercial with album 4 and 5... I believe also that ATCQ got crowed with Tip forcing Consequence into the group likely against the wishes of Phife. But I disagree with Phife being an MC not capable of holding his own, he definitely stayed underground and without him there is NO ATCQ. Tip he definitely changed up his style kind of like Ceelo of Goodie Mob... people wanna get paid and they evolved similar to Andre 3000. You're entitled to your own opinion.

The Golden Age era was over by 1996. Q-Tip evolved as a great producer, but his rhyming skills declined to vapid garbage (Breathe and Stop?!? Amplified? ehhh, oh well, he wanted to get that bank!). But lets get real people, if you are Generation X, by the late '90s you were done with school and college, working two jobs, paying rent and bills, dealing with wives or baby mamas.....you had less time (and money) for hip hop. So Hip Hop had to adapt to the tastes of Gen Y2K- the P Diddy era.

great review totally agree - it's almost like tip was a different person in the early 90s or someone was writing for him?
