Many of the old independents were treated as regional superstations by cable systems. WKBD in Detroit was on practically every system in the state of Michigan, plus NW Ohio and perhaps NE Indiana as well.
@bob121652 Yeah, I know how that was like. Toledo had the advantage of being close to Detroit in case one of our locals decided not to show something that night or elsewhere during the day.

In the late 1970s, while growing up in Charleston, WV, we received WXIX TV 19 from Cincinnati, Ohio, before they became a FOX TV station.
This video triggers all sorts of childhood flashbacks...
