Rest in piece Gavin Creel. I remember listening to your albums all the time in 6th grade. You were a huge inspiration to me. Thank you for being such an amazing part of Broadway. 🤍🤍🤍
I'm 76. The lyrics were saying what we meant, that if you can see my eyes, then my hair's too short, but nobody on stage had hair covering their eyes!! My mom would say that I couldn't see, and I would say I could through the slits! We didn't want our parents to see our eyes.
It's amazing how things like that span generations. I'm 27 and, when I went through my "emo" era, my bangs would fully cover either one or both of of my eyes. I'd get comments from people all the time. "How can you see like that?" "Can you even see?" "Do you even have any eyes?" I just told them "I can see that my hair is none of your damn business, thank you."
Got to see it in 2010, and it was so much FUN. It was so energetic, the cast interacted with the audience. I have been to Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys, and Hamilton, all were good, but Hair was the BEST
"Hair" featured so many stars in the 60s and 70s. Diane Keaton, Meatloaf, Tim Curry, Donna Summer, Melba Moore and Elaine Paige all appeared in one production or another.
I know this is a year late, but he sings the lower harmony and is harder to just hear. I feel like Gavin’s voice shines when he sings in the upper part of his register, but this is still such a fun song.
@@ziggyd93Literally I still wonder about that to this day. Why does Gavin, a literal tenor, sings the low harmony while Will Swenson, a literal baritone, sings the high harmony! Not that baritones can't sing high or tenors can't sing low, but It was just weird, and the high harmony would suit gavin's voice and vice versa for will. There's a performance where Gavin sings the high harmony and will sings the low harmony that was done a few years ago.
There's a bunch of different versions of Hair if you're talking about the play. The song itself is pretty tame and there's far worse songs in the play. The 60s version had more rape. I mean, in the original script on of the main characters rapes one of the other main characters and laughs about it within in the first 5 minutes after the opening song. Most versions of have a nude scene after the first act. Some versions (like high school and a lot of community theater) replace the nude scene with either them in their underwear or swimsuits or just in shadow. Some versions even have the cast running naked through the audience.
Lol, they‘re naked on stage at a certain point. That was obscene in the 1960s. When I watched hair as a child in the early 90ies that was a bit much for me 😂😂😂 I was a fan nonetheless…..as a teen when they were close to my boardingschool we would go to all shows they did in the area…..we‘d leave our seats and sit in front of the stage, smoke weed with the performers, we were dressed as hippies ourselves and would go WILD during the show….😂 I LOVE HAIR…..oh, there are many scandalous songs….also a transvestite (not transgender) that scene is hilarious….. imagine that in the 60ies, of course the „adults“ found it obscene !
I want this musical to come back! We could use it right about now!
I don’t want it to come back but what i do want to happen is for broadway to LET THE SUNSHINE LET THE SUNSHINE EVERYBODY
Rest in peace Gavin Creel, I'll always remember you. 💔🕊

He was such a legend even though I didn’t meet him I did see him in hello dolly and into the woods
That's an insane amount of talent to keep singing like that while running around dancing like crazy and jumping off the stage and not miss a beat
Just a common amount of playback, rather.
Right? I can't even walk and chew gum.
It’s their voices. No playback. @@numberjack2286
I worked on this production, and they were incredibly disciplined. None of the vocals were ever augmented.
After so many years I have never caught that Gavin says "love you" to Anne Hathaway when he runs away form her 😂😍
only caught that cause you did lmao
I wanted this to last forever. I never wanted it to end. AMAZING.
Rest in peace, Gavin Creel. The absolute best.
Love the energy the tribe gave to the audience
I have watched this an unhealthy amount of times
That makes 2 of us.
@@suecox907 make that three

God Bless Gavin Creel💙
Saw Hair for the first time at the Shubert Theater in Chicago back in the 70's. It still holds up.
Best musical ever! Time for another revival.

I saw this in person at the Palace in Milwaukee, Great memories
That breaks the fourth wall.
Good lord that jump 😳. I would have broken both ankles.
Gavin had back surgery in 2018 so hopefully all is well.
Rest in Peace Gavin
I love the pacifist and rebel message from this musical
Love this sond
I saw in person twice, What a Treat.
He's great!
I wish that they put this on DVD or something...
Me too. Many of us can't go to Broadway to see it.
It's widely available in most formats. Even Blu-ray.

RIP Gavin Creel passed 10/1/24.
I feel like Gavin Creel’s mic stopped working after the first 30 seconds.
I did not notice it.

Truly amazing. But the UA-cam screen is spliting.

Wasn't the 60s version obscene?
In the 1960s, that was considered obscene. The lyrics are those from the original 1969(?) soundtrack/musical.
I just read the lyrics Im hairy high and low is the raciest line. So no.

@@libertatemadvocatus1797oh vow, that I never saw (any rape in hair)….. that would have massively ruined my love for the show….

But I'm follicly challenged.
They like giving each other awards
That must have been very embarrassing for the audience.
i would be having too much fun to be embarrassed tbh
Embarrassing?? It’s the effin tonys! They were having a god damn blast!! If anyone was embarrassed then they don’t belong at the Tony’s!
And say all the fun they had when the white shirt singer only choose bald men to his performance with public
It must have been a perfect antidote to the stodgy boredom and self-importance of many award shows. 😂
Well, that was pretty vulgar.
HAH, wait and watch the end of the first act
It's hair you dunce. They get all get naked at the end of act 1.
RIP Gavin Creel.
