This video is not intended for children under the age of 14. Quite frankly, kids...I'm just some random old dude talking about nostalgic TV and movie stuff from a really long time ago and I highly doubt that it is going to interest you.

I really miss the late 70s and early 80s, they were a magical time for me as a kid.
I was in high school then. The best of times!
AgnosticProle
Me too
Sadly we don’t have
Awesome shows like THAT any more
@@pfcthomasblackhawk1100 No we don't and probably never will again. The 60s, 70s, and 80s were the absolute pinnacle for American television. It started going downhill in the 90s!
Raymond Kizer
I agree
@@raymondkizer1216 Sadly, everything started going downhill in the 90's!
Back when the whole family watched the same show.
Those were good times! We could all watch the same show and, for the most part, be pretty happy about it.
Whole family, what is this thing ? Telling my grandchildren how a thing called a family watched family shows together
Not in my house, we were a family of 4 and could never agree on what to watch, but we did have two TVs.
Remember we called TV jiggle TV back then because most those women didn`t wear bras so look for the bouncing boobs.
Yep, I used to get mad when my dad wanted to watch something different , but know I really miss those times.
My favorite cast member was Ted Lange who played Issac the bartender. I was only 10 when the show started and I had a huge crush on him! I loved how he pointed to the camera in the opening credits. I thought it was so cool! The character in the TV movie was cast with Demond Wilson. Both men played in the TV sitcom Baby, I’m Back. I believe Ted was the only cast member to direct episodes. I used to think of the show as a show for washed up has been actors and many people felt that way then. Looking back over 40 years later, I totally admire the casting and acting from the cast and the regulars. I still watch on ME TV when I get the chance. The best tv theme song ever!. Still makes me smile when I hear it!
It's too difficult to choose a favorite, since they were all so wonderfully funny & talented!
Gavin MacLeod was a surprise for me. I watched him in his role as Murray on the Mary Tyler Moore Show and he was a dowdy drab character. Then he came on Love Boat as this amazingly dapper and handsome man. What a transformation that was.
Magical shows in this era!! Growing up at these times...love em all!!! Great times. Thanks to all associated to this iconic and loved 70s show.
Well said, Gus!
Lauren was awesome in an awesome cast. That says a lot for for her charm and ability. Remember when the entire family watched the same show?
Those were good times, Brian!
You are such a positive guy, people have got to be drawn to your Channel not just for the hard researched wealth of information.... but also for your positive output I really do enjoy it, NEVER CHANGE
Thanks Bill! I appreciate your kind words and I will do my best to stay positive. 🙂
This was a wonderful show. How many of you liked Love, American Style, as well?
That's me and you.
That show was a lot of fun. 😁
+@@phil4826 Next to Hawaii-5/0, Love American Style and Mod Squad had the best theme songs ever on American T.V.
This is for the Red ,White and Blue
The Cowsills sang the theme song.
.
Lauren Tewes went from 'cute', to 'HOT', simply by allowing her hair to grow out......with that BEAUTIFUL face, that's ALL it took !!
Here's an odd fact about this show, that I hope doesn't change any time soon......this is one of the few (the ONLY ???) shows from the 70's (and YES, I realize it also ran into the 1980's), who's ENTIRE (main) cast is still living !!
Think about it......NOBODY of those six members have passed away from this cast!! And may that continue for a long, LONG TIME !!
(and btw, if ANYBODY can come up with another cast of a 70's show who's cast is all still living, PLEASE include it here......so far nobody I know has been able to come up with one!)
.
I never realized she was from Pittsburgh area! Braddock was known for being around steel mills.
I noticed that too-no woman transformed their appearance more dramatically from the cute Dorothy Hamill cut to the hot 1980s hairdo in one year than Lauren Tewes. Unless maybe it was Princess Diana.
And today if they were on that boat, they would be dead within months.....
I remember Bernie Koppel in his Breakout Role as Siegfried on Get Smart ✔ (Remember, Siegfried.?!?)
I LOVED Siegfried on Get Smart. I always waited for episodes with him or Hymie in them! Remember Robert Gautier as Hymie? They both cracked me up!!
They ran the chaos camp in new jersey.
KAOS vs. Control.
Siegfried's henchman Starker. "Schtarker!! This is KAOS. We don't itsy bitsy teeny tiny!!"
Starker!!
Nice of them to have her back on a later season. Thanks again for another great trip down memory lane.
Loved tv back then. A truly special time for television before cable. Thanks for this recap!
Sad about her cocaine problem and dismissal. I think I stopped watching when she left because I don't remember the shows after she left.
I think it is cool that I have never heard you say anything bad about anyone. You have a soothing voice to listen to As far as favorites, I enjoyed them all
She seemed so squeaky clean and wholesome. I had no idea she had a drug problem. But, she seems to have a good life now so that’s wonderful. I adored her in this show.
Me too. She was and still is my favorite!
Who else collected Charlie's Angel's trading cards and stickers. The Love Boat and Fantasy Island were great. Life was so much simpler back then. I guess because I was a child. Thanks Dave!
I liked Vicki.
Yes, I collected the Charlie's Angels cards in the gum package. Think I still have them somewhere. They were all gorgeous.
@@jasonb9636 yes they were. The gum was awful. Ha!
So you watched all the bad shows.
@@gloriatg100 You are entitled to your opinion. What were you watching back then? There was only so many choices. Cable was not in every house back then. We only had ABC NBC and CBS. Do you brighten a lot of people's days, Gloria?
Born in 1978 and I loved the Love Boat as a kid. I now have Seasons 1-4 that have been released on DVD. There will never be fun shows like this again. TV today is so depressing. We use to watch TV to escape reality, now reality is crammed down our throats on TV. I'm glad that Lauren is doing well now.
I'm getting older, but back in the day I had a crush on Tewes
Yeah, she took many a load in my dreams.....
me too.
Definitely Lauren was my favorite! I watch reruns every Sunday night . Only when Lauren is on. The story lines were much better I think when she was on.
Thank you for telling her story it shows how she overcame her drug problem one day at a time brings hope to others! My favorite was Lauren so l am thrilled she is doing well. God bless her and her family💕
Totally agree, Janet. Lauren seems to be thriving. I hope things continue to go well for her.
Ah ... I loved The Love Boat when I was a kid. Julie and Gopher were my favorite characters.
Remember when they almost became an item? LOL.
Thanks for the lovely tribute to this classy lady.😎
Stand I remember that, and I very much wanted them to become a couple!
Great rapport. They came off as two genuine working class people trying to do a good job.
I actually remember seeing the teaser commercial of Julie and Gopher making out in the moonlight and gasping, Oh My God!! I have to watch!! I was 12 or 13.
I have been watching your videos for a while now and I enjoy the flashbacks to the good old days of TV. Thank you for the great work.
You're welcome, Thomas! And...thank you for watching.
Lauren Tewes also made her big screen debut in the 1981 underrated psychological horror thriller EYES OF A STRANGER. She's really great in the movie and it also co-stars a very young Jennifer Jason Leigh as her teenage sister.
EYES OF A STRANGER was a great film
I was a kid in the 70s, and the 80s , and loved every bit of it. I'd go back as fast as u can say three's company!
Thank you She was my Favorite too. Great to know this Actress is happy n OK. And has moved forward without bitter memories of what exited her from.the Show
Remember this program as family viewing back in the day.
Jill Whelan was my favorite.
It was a nice manageable time for families known as B.C.
Before Cable, before it really caught on and was affordable for everyone.
Back then most of us watched the 4 or so network channels and a few UHF channels.
Families usually had 1 or 2 TVs and with the small manageable selection of shows families usually watched shows together.
That’s the way it was in our house and Love Boat and Fantasy Island were two of our favorites.
Love Boat had a great cast, they had good writers and every week you got an interesting episode with multiple story arcs that involved all of the characters and guest stars in something interesting. One of my favorite shows and Lauren Tewes was a fun interesting character.
Thanks for sharing your memories, John!
I had a girlfriend in high school whose ambition was to have Lauren's job on The Love Boat. She even studied several foreign languages to make herself a more valuable employee. Don't know how it turned out. I hope things worked out well for her.
Have you tried to find her? To re-connect?
@@marceloromero4515 They call that stalking.
@@JetFire9 Only if you’re excessive about it and following her everywhere.
I had such a crush on Lauren Tewes. The "Love Boat" & "Fantasy Island" Saturday combo was always kind of hokey, but still like catnip to a lonely teenage boy.
Yes,they were pretty entertaining shows,I would say without being really vulgar.Really good, pretty clean shows.
I grew up in Europe and when the show aired the first time in Germany in 1987, I was ten years old. And Lauren Tewes was my first love interest haha ;) Good to see she´s fine. Still love her!
Very cool! Thanks for sharing, misc!
I had a huge crush on Lauren Tewes back then.
I was a little boy when this show and Fantasy Island entertained my family some nights, so Gopher was my favorite at first but as i aged a little bit I did start to have a greater appreciation for Julie..........Lol
Thank you for saying Gopher was your favorite, he was mine, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love Boat was pure 1970's gold.(even though it ran into the 80's).It seemed like Charo was on every episode.Shows like Love Boat,Fantasy Island,Vegas,Hart to Hart,Charlies Angels, all seem to be products of their time..Then in the 80's it was more the time of the 30 min sitcom and the one hour nighttime soap dramas like Dallas and Dynasty..All those shows seem so different than anything today..
Some of my favorite shows growing up....Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Incredible Hulk, Dukes of Hazard, Six Million Dollar Man, Happy Days
Yep, I loved EVERY SINGLE ONE of those shows too.
As a kid watching "The Love Boat" in the late 80s, SHE was one of my first crushes. There was just something about her smile. I went to school with a girl, who was in my class, which reminded me a lot of Lauren Tewes. Again, that smile.
She was a cutie back in the day! She managed to hold her own back then with the rest of the cast.
Yep, she held her own...and then some!
I grew up in the 1970's and I love to watch this TV show back then. Now that I am 52 years old now since December 2018 of last month of last year.
If you go on a Princess cruise, the safety video on the TV is done by the original cast. Brilliant! Love the actual scenes filmed from and on the Pacific Princess.
I watched every episode here in Finland, but after Lauren left, it wasn’t so good anymore. I really liked her cuteness. There were many guest appereances which made the show more interesting and it was nice to see who are the guests this week. Gopher and Doc were my favorites (after Lauren of course). The Pacific Pricess was once here in Helsinki too.
You’re right you can’t mention one member of the cast without talking about them all. I think that’s probably the only cast that this is true with. I know I loved each and every character is much is the other one
I just went and watched the love boat angels! It was excellent! The only thing I wish is that they would’ve had more of the love boat people in the episode. But it was still really good.
What a great show that was. Quite frankly, all of the original characters were equally great.
Would not recognize her even if she walked past me in broad daylight.
I started watching The Love Boat simply because of the Kaos leader turned doctor, and kept watching because of the entire cast. This show and Fantasy Island were two of my favorite shows.
Wow another great gem you like read my mind sometimes! Lol I love your videos on where are they now!! Thanks Dave
Thanks Michael! I truly appreciate the kind words.
My family loved watching The Love Boat when we were growing up and I too, had a crush on Lauren Tewes.
Yep, it was a show that the whole family could watch together.
YUK, such a shallow phony. Apparent even as she tried to act. Sorry.
I remember that Love Boat/ Fantasy Island lineup...loved all the characters!
My choices of rerun crush were Lauren Tewes and Jan Smithers. Favorite guest star was Ray Bolger.
Great choices. Jan Smithers was the "Mary Ann" of WKRP!
Love Boat had the Pointer Sisters singing He's so shy. Loved it
You know, I knew Lauren had had some problems with drugs...but I didn’t know THE whole story. I remember when they took her off the show & it didn’t quite seem the same.
Glad to hear she’s doing well & is very much an example of what can be accomplished, if you set your mind to it!
Once again, Dave, thanks for the update.
I really love hearing about the people I
“grew up with”...even if it was only a one way relationship. When you allow someone into your living room on a weekly basis, they do become your “friends”.
You're welcome, A&M!
I remember going to Pioneer High School in Whittier, CA in the early 1980s and Lauren Tewes was a Pioneer High graduate whom the school was very proud of (they probably didn't know about the cocaine struggles she had for a time) but she always seemed like a wonderful person and I'm glad she overcame the cocaine addiction. It's too bad the show's producers didn't seem to care enough about helping her through those times.
I think the fact that she was able to beat her addiction is recent for pride as well. Great comments. Thanks Jason!
The Love boat Will Always Be Exciting and New!!!! Great Video Sincerely Thomas Raymond of Fresno California!!!!!!
Thanks Thomas!
I am glad things are going well for her now I loved her on this show
Another well done tribute. I really appreciate your compassion towards these folks that may have fallen on hard times throughout their lives. Speaking of Fantasy Island, I'd love to see a tribute to Herve Villechaize, he was in a lot of films & tv folks may not be aware of - Thanx again

I first saw her on Starsky and Hutch, another Aaron Spelling show.
Hey Dave just found your channel thanks for the content. I loved Lauren , I didn't remember about the cocain addiction or her leaving the show. Glad to see she is OK and hope she is doing well. Thanks again
I miss family type TV shows. But, that "ship" has sailed.
Hallmark Channel
@@julieletford5695 Hallmark only shows Lucy, Golden Girls, Frasier at late/early hrs and all day long those God awful cheesy made for TV movies w/ the SAME cookie cutter rom-com plots. The Christmas ones are all cringe worthy too. At least back in the day they used the run shows during the day like Little House, The Walton's, Happy Days ect. Idk why they stopped running daytime programming and opted for their TV movies.
I never missed love boat and fantasy island. Aaron Spelling was such a master at creating
Great television and later Beverly Hills 90210 Melrose place Charmed great guest stars television today doesn’t come close for the most part
I thought had a crush on Gofer I heard the actual boat thst was used got too old and went to the boat graveyard in Europe
Well there’s always the reruns
well when we had only 3 channels to pick from, they networks needed to make shows that appealed to everyone
This damn world is out of control! I was just watching The Love Boat four nights ago and made a comment about Lauren and now the shows up in my feed. I don't have an Alexa or anything like that in my home. This kind of thing happens every day to me. They are watching us!
I couldn't agree more. There have been times where I would mention something totally off the wall to my wife, about something I hadn't thought of or talked about in years. Next thing I know, It would show up in an internet ad, or video recommendation. Or I'd do a Google search and type one or two words, and the guesses would pop up with that thing listed first. Before I typed anything that would justify that as a guess. Something like talking about how actresses couldn't show their belly button back in the early days of TV, like on I Dream of Jeanie. I'd open Google and type "why Barbara Eden", and right away a list of possibilities would pop up and the first would say "couldn't show her belly button". Really creepy. I bring it up to my wife and she says, the TV and phones all have microphones and are recording everything we say or do.... Lol. Scary ain't it.
@@thomasfleig1184 some appliances also ..if I'm not mistaken, they even mentiin that fact in the handbook : I heard it was together honest reviews
Jennifer Frost Google owns UA-cam so if you google something, it will pop up on UA-cam, same with Facebook.
The issue I'm trying to bring up is that you don't even have to Google it or search anything that you just have to think it and it pops up. This has happened to me many times.
"They" know so much about me now that I believe my life could be in danger. None of this surveillance is going to turn out well at the end.
Julie was the soul for The love Boat looks personality and overture excellent actor
I loved watching the Love Boat. Great family show. My kids enjoyed it in 80s when they were little.
I always loved Lauren Tewes and not just because she's from my neck of the woods, Braddock PA., but because of the things said in this video...love you forever McCoy!!!
Didn't know that! I've been to Braddock.
I never knew she was from my area, Pittsburgh
The Loat Boat was always a guilty pleasure for me because my buddies would give me a hard time for watching it. HahA! good times though! Loved Julie McCoy! She was a sexy doe-eyed picture of the girl next door. Yes, I had heard about her drug addictions many years later but as a kid, I didn't know why she was no longer on the show. My favourite guest star was Heather Thomas...she was on one of the Love Boat specials when they sailed to Japan. Still one of the greatest theme songs ever. The cast had such great chemistry. I think The Doctor was my favourite cast member because of his days on Get Smart. Great vid as always and thanks for posting!
Thanks for the kind words, Rometiklan! I included a picture of Heather in the video but I didn't remember which episode she was on. It makes sense that it was one of the specials. And...I agree. It was a great song. And, it was sung best by the wonderful Jack Jones.
@@jdsundstrom Yeah, Heather was in the Japan voyage episode. If I recall, Heather played a racist who was biased against the Japanese because her father was a World War II veteran who fought in the South Pacific. She falls in love with Tony Danza, but there's trouble in paradise when she finds out he's part Japanese. Yes, I saw the pic of Heather in your thumbnail...looks like she wore her famous pink bikini for that scene. HahA nice! Thanks and have a Happy New Year and much continued success in 2019!
Like you, 'Love Boat' and 'Fantasy Island' were the Saturday lineup. While mocked alot, the 'Love Boat' theme is one of the most iconic ever. Still get goosebumps when I hear it.
Favorite character would be a toss up between Julie and Issac. So sad her life took that wrong turn. I remember when they replaced her, and the show was never the same.
Nope, it wasn't the same. Much like Happy Days...the "Ted McGinley Effect" was in full force and the very end of Love Boat.
Agree about the Love Boat theme music, from the opening notes it immediately shoved you forward into the show's mood. Which I'd say was not true (for me) of Fantasy Island's theme music.
I have a playlist of songs I take on my I-Pod when I go on a cruise, and the Love Boat theme is one of them. I played it on my wireless speaker while sitting at the bow of the RC Adventure Of The Seas (there's an observation area with bench seats there), and people around me started singing along.
@@hd-xc2lz Yeah. The Fantasy Island theme had no lyrics.
Great video!
It's like I'm catching up with old friends.
I have that TV Guide cover @ 2:21!!!! Loved Charlie's Angels and i remember the crossover!!! Your videos bring back such fond memories of my childhood, raised in front of the TV-back when TV was actually ENTERTAINING and INTELLIGENT, not like the CRAP we have today. Cherish your childhood memories-they are what will make you who you are as an adult.
Another great video Dave flash back I remember watching love boat every week but I don't remember why.
Maybe it's better that we don't remember why, Danny!
I think that there were many young men and boys who had a crush on Tewes! She was hot! Her smile was captivating! She was also in an episode of Starsky and Hutch.
Love Boat was also in the same universe as Fantasy Island. That could mean the remake of The Love Boat shared the same universe as the Fantasy Island remake.
Lauren later said that when she hit rock bottom she would watch "Mr Rogers's Neighborhood" because that was the only place she could find an expression of unconditional love
I was fortunate enough to have Lauren as a guest speaker for my organization in the 90’s. She came with her husband who was suffering from advanced ALS and they were a lovely couple. It was sad but they were so in love that I was privileged to be a part of that visit. God bless her.
Wow! Thanks for sharing your memories, jhuber350! It's great to hear that she was there to support him through thick and thin.
There is no elephant's graveyard for C-list celebrities on TV anymore now that "The Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island" are off the air. I'm not even aware of any celebrity panel game shows apart from a few on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
I know! Aside from Dancing with the Stars, I can't think of any show on TV right now where the stars of yesteryear can earn a paycheck.
Yes, all those old game shows are back. Match game, pyramid, etc are back in the summer on ABC. They don't always have older celebs but they do have b-list ones.
This was one of my favorite shows in 70sand80s the love boat every Saturday nights love you all you guys.

Lauren was treated badly by the producers of the love boat.she was my favourite character. Lauren had naturalness that came through in Julie McCoy. She made a detour into horror movies in the 80s with eyes of a stranger with a young Jennifer Jason leigh
I really enjoyed Love Boat. The whole cast was great. It was fun to see who showed up as guest stars. If I had to pick a favorite guest star, I think it would be Charo. She was so much fun to watch. Her and that guitar... WOW.

Dave that's very sad that Lauren Tewes didn't receive any help and/or support when she needed it. I definitely preferred her as the Cruise Director in The Love Boat. I didn't really have a favourite crew member or guest star. I do remember how much pleasure my Dad used to get from watching Charo when she guest starred on the show though.
I loved the episode that had 2 1/2 Mens maid on it. She was a girls chaperone and got her feeling hurt cause she thought Doc didn't like her because of her weight. But it all got fixed in an hour.
Perhaps at that point of her addiction, she was unable to accept help from those who cared. She may have been in denial that she had a problem - maybe to herself or at least to others. To accept help would have been an admission, so she didn't.
