    George is an Awesome guy. Very knowledgeable. It's only a 20 min detour on the trip from Jackson Hole to SLC if you plan it right.

    Thanks for the great video. This has been on the top of our bucket list. We’d better get there this year as life is short.

    We are going there in less than 2 weeks. I am so stinking excited. Living in MN we have no fossils so this is a fulfillment of a life long dream for me.
    How much material do they let you keep and do they charge to cut down the slabs to make them into smaller sections? Any helpful tips or information is very much appreciated.
    Thanks for the great video.

      It is a phenomenal location. We can't wait to return to dig the famous 18-inch Layer at night.

      If the weather is good, you can't beat it! Lots of fish...and who doesn't love to take a hammer and split some rocks???

    WOW, this is new to me. Fascinating ! I love this kind of nature/geology stuff. How old are these fossils ?

      There is quite a range of ages. Google "Green River Formation" fossils. Thanks for dropping by!

    Wow I love it, what is best time of year to go ???

    What do you think your percentage of success is. If you put a full day in it and work are you pretty much assured of coming home with some decent if not pristine samples

    What do you do for a living...music recording or editing or something? I see that soundproofing...

      I teach Digital Media (tv, video, film) at a technical school. I recorded that section in my office at home. I have the corner treated for audio recording.

      That is super cool! I thought it was a sound booth. I used to work for a International record label, so I knew you did something along those lines with all the acoustics/soundproofing. Just curious: What program do you use for video editing? I’m about to attempt to dabble in it. Thanks!

    Why so many fish in one location?

    • @rockhoundingusa8207
      @rockhoundingusa8207  3 роки тому

      It was likely a lake with nearby volcanic activity. This leads to many layers of fish.

    kind of sad that i live on the other side of the world, we have our own fish areas but the regulations round here make near impossible to hunt them unless you get special permission a long time in advance and the find rates are nothing like this

      We are also seeing many new restrictions here in the USA, but I am thankful that owners of private property still have a broad set of privileges for digging/collecting. Thanks for commenting!

    The other quarry is cheaper $75 half day.

  • @STHFGDBY
    @STHFGDBY 4 роки тому

    It's very pricey me thinks. 30 dollars for just one hour. That would cause people to work fast and probably spoil good finds.

    • @rockhoundingusa8207
      @rockhoundingusa8207  4 роки тому +2

      Many people travel from all over the world to spend the day there. The hourly or daily rate is very reasonable considering that these are world-class fossils from one of the most fossil-rich regions in the world. If someone is willing to pay for air-fare to reach it, anything under a $100 is a steal.

      @@rockhoundingusa8207 So clearly it's not about helping families to enjoy the experience of fossil hunting, clearly it's about making money. Nobody paid to put fossils into the earth, it's a natural phenomena and somebody's making vast amounts of money from it. There must be millions of these fossils in that ancient sea bed. Did you ever consider families that would enjoy this experience but cannot afford those prices. ?
