Years ago I had a stored wood at my homestead for personal use and to sell. I noticed wood missing every now and then so I took some split wood in eth garage and bored 1 inch holes about 6'' deep in them and put about 2-3 tablespoons of black powder in each piece of wood. Followed by a plug. Soon one evening I seen fire trucks outside my neighbor's house. He stole some wood and blew the door off his wood stove. Never lost another piece of wood after that.

A good answer to wood thieves is to make the wood stack closest to the entry a stack of Willow and Elm, this worked in England when I was a kid when we still had Elm , we still have plenty of big willow. Why does this work ? well, you try burning that crap ! leave it three years and you might get a vicious smoulder !

Allegedly, one time, I had 2 bicycles stolen from my fenced in yard in just one summer. So, according to police reports, it was alleged that i had hooked a battery charger to a bike that happened to sit within a puddle of water. It was also alleged that i may have had the connections attached to the bike and to a metal coat hanger, that was stuck into the ground. ... the sound of the crackhead, as he grabbed hold of the bike, caught my attention. Police alleged i may have done so on purpose.... the Judge dismissed all charges, prior to trial, with a huge smile on his face as he excused me from Court. 20 years later, I still have my bike!

I used 4 old snowmobile tracks with hundreds of 3 to 4in corse threaded bolts.....I also ran long 40,000 pound cables through the tracks anchored to trees a distance away and natural brush as camo. The tracks are flexible/pliable and got sucked up in the fender wells and ripped out break lines and hoses. They were very ambitious showing up with 2 large f-450's pulling very nice dump trailers. The Sheriff almost pissed himself at the sight of the carnage. Did the same thing on back of farm .
For about 50 years people had been going over private sand pit off road . Parking, partying, or other stuff you do at night in wooded areas. We never cared . Then someone with big tires started 4 wheeling across planted fields. I was working 2nd shift 10 hr 7 days a week going on 6 week got home bout 2:30 last time i looked at clock it was 3 at 3:15 headlights and off road light bar shining in my bedroom they took off when i turned outside light on and was standing ther with gun.
Next day put boards out at back of farm.
    Boards got tore up.
Month later a buddy who lived 3 miles away said he seen a truck go by riding on 4 flats.
Couple months later a guy who lived about 15 miles away told me he seen the same truck on 4 rims go by.

This guy noticed he was losing dry wood right out of his shed every few days. He could even see unexplained tracks in the snow, across his yard. Then he bored a one inch hole four inches deep and hid a shotgun shell in the hole by capping it flush with a wooden plug. This piece of wood was left on top of the pile every night. That was satisfying. I like seeing the splitting process, but also like seeing the original pile dwindle quickly. : ) My neighbor across the road had a run in with someone down the road a ways. The woman (supposedly who thought she owned the road because her family "adopted" the road for keeping it picked up) decided to stop at his place because she didn't like how he kept his yard (cows, horses, chickens, etc, and junk in the yard). She walked onto his property and was peering through the windows of the house. My other neighbor told him about it. He later did the same thing you did, but I don't think she ever came back. The planks are still there, though, just in case.

Can you imagine the amount of work to get a jack under the side of the vehicle that had both tires flattened? You did a good job. Said it was private property and they could do nothing about it. So I welded up an 8 inch schedule 80 steel pipe and filled it with concrete. I suck that 3 feet in the ground. Anchored with concrete. The next time they hit our mailbox, they left the front bumper a d part of their radiator with the undamaged post. Still had to replace the mail box again. But I did it with a grin.

When you run into stringy wood, take your axe that you should ALWAYS keep nearby, and chop those strings away! You may hit the wedge every now and again, - don't worry about it. I've had the same axe for over 30 yrs! Keep it sharp and handy, it'll last forever! I've had to replace the handle 3 or 4 times, and the head twice, but other than that, totally maintenance free!! A great axe!! Like it came from Krypton! Surprised I have to tell you these things!! - Btb, when throwing and stacking in a pile, 14' is as high as a man can go. Well, a short guy. I've seen guys 5'11" or more chuck firewood up past 15'!! And my wife! She can chuck wood over 20' high!! Thing is, you never know which direction she's trying to start a new pile! Couple times she started a pile on top of my head!! I gave her some pointers on chuckin' wood, she got mad, won't help me at all now! All I'm sayin' is: don't let HER take care of your hardhat!! Esp. when she seems to want to help so bad! - She IS a lot better supervisor than me, though. She's had a lot more practice!! She'd give you hell for running the Ultra at hyper speed! The reason: If you burn it up, you'll have to buy a new one. And that would cost more than maybe 4 of her economy Parisian firewoodin' outfits!! - Don't blame Tony. Sometimes, I have the urge to help you out, on my own!! GNI.
