- Things you can consider if you are looking at purchasing the new 2022 KLR. I will be talking about things that you are not going to hear on most channels. What you may ask, Well how great this bike is right off the showroom for starters. You don't need to spend thousands of dollars to go start having fun and adventures. Stop at the gas station, fill it up, buy some snacks and go enjoy the adventures ahead.

I traded my '21 Harley RK for 2 of these, 1 for me, 1 for my son. In 2.5 months, I have 3600 city/hwy miles. Biggest mods are a tall V Stream windshield, Seat Concepts commuter seat and a 14" oval stainless Delkevic slip on. I also put a Guami manual cruise control.
What I like the best is that the Adventure is light and flickable compared to the RK and I get 55 mpg. I've also reached the conclusion that big engine = big heat, little engine, not, so, take the plunge. Get that KLR!

Thank you for this. The KLR is my first "ADV" bike, def not my first bike. I research things until I almost hate them so when i chose the KLR it wasn't random bike i just chose. I bought mine and immediately had a 160 mile ride home. I follow a lot of youtubers and they all seem to parrot the same talking points. I think the bike is fast enough, powerful enough, super comfortable, and does everything it is supposed to do. Makes no sense to compare this bike to other bikes that cost thousands more.

Same as you. I've been torn between a KLR + Versys, but I like the aftermarket support for the KLR and the fact that the community is more mechanically oriented. I don't like bikes that people don't maintain + service themselves. I also like the new improvements. I think I'd put a 16t sprocket on it.
@@chadkline4268 I had a Versys 650 several years ago, great bike, loved it, but its def a different world. My KLR has been my daily driver for the past month, in November in Virginia. It has been great. I got rear ended this past week 11/30/2022 and smashed between two cars. Took 6 people to get the KLR out of the cars front grille, then i rode it home. What a tank.

You mostly ride around town and between cities. You don't like cars and use a bike for everything. About 10% of the time, you ride on trails in the forests + mountains. Once/year, you ride about 8000 miles on a transcontinental tour. Which do you choose? KLR or Versys? If I was rich, I'd get a GS, but I'm not 🙂
I have a couple thousand miles on my 22 Adventure and I definitely agree. I am always surprised at all the people who knock these bikes and specifically this model. There are bikes that are bigger, faster and better at pretty much everything. However, this bike is a great option for a lot of people, myself included. Subscribed.

There's alot of idiots on the internet
This bike is like a multi-tool. It has a phillips head screwdriver on it, but if you really needed to tighten a lot of screws you'd want an actual screwdriver. It can do pretty much everything, jack of all trades, master of none. Very utilitarian bike at a great price point.

This is the best analogy. Each tool in the multi tool suck compared to the full size tools, but it does the job acceptably 90% of the time.
Great to see you back on two wheels! The KLR650 has had a tremendous following over the years, this bike has been around the world so many times, and this latest generation is going to continue the legacy. Good stuff Dale, ride safe.

The only thing the KLR is not is a tire shredder. It does everything else perfectly well unless you’re competing for sheep stations. I love them.

I also own a Gen 1. It has maybe 34k miles on it now, 20k that I put on it. I gave $1,700 for it in 2018 and have probably spent another $2,500 in upgrades and such. I have done pretty much every upgrade known to the Klr world except for the rear shock that I just rebuilt and added the heavier spring. It has a rattle can paint job on the tank,desert camo tan, and all the plastics are covered in bedliner (done by the previous owner). I have looked at the new Klr, just looked with no interest in buying. I fully intend to put 100k on this bike, it has become a friend of mine of sorts. Just like owning an old Willis Jeep I guess, no more expectations than what should be. I will just keep changing the worn out tires when needed, change the oil and filters when necessary, buy a set of hand grips now and then, and ride.

I've been looking at the Tenere 700 and looking at this, as a brand new rider I think this will be an easy bike to learn vs the 700. Thanks for the info that not very many people are saying.
They are both bikes. I will never knock the T7, it too is a great bike, however I will say this, you just can't go wrong with this bike and its an easy pace to learn on. I have taught a few riders over the past and this bike won't get out from in under you, but still give you trills and tons of smiles. Keep us posted and I hope you get your new bike soon my friend.

I bought my 2022 a couple of months ago, absolutely love it. So far I have no complaints.
After riding a 2018 crf250l, the suspension on the klr feels great and it even comes with a real seat instead of a 2x6 like the Honda
Yes sir, I so agree with you on so many levels. I think if a guy has switched from a 250L or a DRZ, or similar bike, the Front windshield feels so much more protective from the wind etc as well. Agree with your comments. I have the same bike, very happy with it out of the box. After watching a lot of 2022 KLR videos seems like the dislikes are brought up time and time again. I believe its wrong to post a review video based off a test ride. Thanks for posting, I look for more..

That's a practical and honest review of the '22 KLR 650. We completely agree that, off the showroom floor, the Adventure model really doesn't need anything.
I'm guilty of buying farkles that weren't really necessary, but in my defense, it's my first bike and I had a bit of 'farkle fever'.
Oh man, I am all about a guy personalizing the bike. After watching so many 'reviews" while trying to get my deal done on my bike which took over three dealerships to get what I felt was a fair deal,. I was convinced so many things are wrong with it and made plans to fix them all. After having it, I was like what, who cares, this aint that bad for the time being. I like you do have a box of stuff in the garage, just like you had. I will be adding stuff to it as time allows, but honestly a guy can put ride on in the tires and travel across country and be just fine. That’s about as straight forward to the point and honest review as I’ve ever seen . Subscribed !
I’m 59 , only rode a couple of times when I was in my teens ( dirt bikes ) and I’ve recently been getting back into the motorcycle riding habit. So I took a safety rider course through MSF and just bought a Yamaha XT250 to build confidence in my riding skills . But I’ve been eye balling this KLR 650 all along with the near future in my sights .
I’m short legged (30” inseam ) and that’s why I got this little XT250 , it’s a great bike to learn on or even a skilled rider can enjoy it , and I’d probably never sell because it’s just so practical and easy to ride with absolute zero regrets on the purchase.
However, it doesn’t fill the role very well for longer adventures and highway cruising… so I’m looking to add another bike to fulfill a broader spectrum of that type of riding and this KLR 650 has captured my attention, as well as the Honda CB500X .
Do you think the KLR650 would be a better choice over the Honda CB500X ? Any input would be much appreciated.

I will start by saying thank you for the kind words as well as the subscribe. It truly helps our little channel more than I can say, so thank you very much.
Congrats on the MSF corse, it is smart to get some training and you are doing it the right way by the route you have taken including your bike choose for starting back safely.
In comparisons to the KLR and the Honda, I have to say in my mind, The KLR is a better adventure bike. I will go onto say way, and mind you it is still just my opinion and I could be wrong, but here it goes. The KLR is a great adventure bike because you can haul a lot with it. I do a fair amount of long range, 2500-3000 miles trips, normally at least one or two year not counting all the shorter overnight camping trips I do. That little more CC over the 500 should help make the trip a little less taxing on the bike over all. I will also follow up and say, I have never rode the 500 but one of the big selling points on it in the years past was its lower seat height. Since you said you have been eyeing the klr for a while, you probably know they have a lower version out this year as well as some aftermarket seat companies offer shorter seats as well. Again, I have not used any of those, so I cant say. I have heard good things though.
All in all, in the end, not knowing the price difference between the KLR and the Honda, if you got the adventure model, you may find you dont need anything else to start taking adventures. at most if you traded out the hard bags for soft ones that were larger, your still money ahead. The Honda, I believe comes with none of the other stuff, but again, I dont know how much it cost, could be the same. But if you want to ride and have a great time, not be in a rush and enjoy the trip, the little bit bigger KLR or the short version, you may find peaceful on a long days ride over the Honda. Honda makes fine stuff and I will never knock the bike. With that said, the honda, is more street oriented. I know there is after market parts to make it more of an adventure bike, but they all come at a cost as well, i have looked at some of the ones that have been tricked out for more adventure style riding and they cost a lot to do those mods, they are awesome, but they are expensive. I hope this helps some and if I mudded the waters, I hope it wasn't by too much. I have faith in the KLR as well as Honda and in the end, both could be really fun adventure bikes. Neither one will make a great dirt bike, so getting on the back roads, fire-roads and double track stuff will all be doable. I will say this, the KLR is heavy, if you drop it, make sure you can pick it up. I dont know how much the honda weighs, but bikes loaded with camping gear can get heavy pretty quick. Not to say you cant take weight off get it stood up and put the stuff back one, but that is something to keep in mind as well.

It is good that they did something about the suspension. I did mine right away . I still like my old 09 . It has my Rear Groove. It almost never needs anything. It is not perfect but it works very well for me .

Very informative. Thank you. At age 65, I've owned more bikes than I remember, but just recently stumbled over a clean, low mileage GEN 1 KLR 650. Immediately I threw money at it and now I'm sitting back and wondering if buying a GEN 3 wouldn't make more sense. Sure, I'd like a T7, but they are $10K, whereas I can get a GEN 3 KLR for about $6,9K, tax and all, out the door. Your video helped me getting to a decision.

I agree with this video completely. I have a Gen1 that I have put a lot of miles on. I got the Gen 1 for the same reasons, I am not a hard core off road rider. I LOVE MY 2022. Ride is great and it does anything I want and when I ride with our church group I can tear off down the un improved trails and they have to sit and watch. Great bike at a great price point with a very reliable engine.

I just purchased a 2022 KLR Adv ABS in Feb 2024. I couldn't be happier! I agree with your assessment. I do do the Doohickey swap,a low-profile oil drain plug, and the Thermo Bob. I will put on crash bars and a different skid plate and radiator shield. The ride is great, plenty of torque and power, and overall a fun bike!

Well done! It definitely is ready to roll off the showroom floor. Mines the base model. My only needed mods for now were a volt meter, lighter port and USB port. I’m sure there will be plenty more though. It s like a Jeep build, it’s never done!

Purchase a KLR 650 Gen 3 a few weeks ago. Great ride right off the floor. My first daul sport... I like this bike better then my Yamaha Venture. I ride mostly to work, so far. Thinking about doing some adventure rides in the future.

I love mine just hit 3k and mostly ride to and from work. I take the back road to work 60 miles an hour feels like the sweet spot.
Yes sir, I agree, 60-65 is about the best running of this motor. I have noticed my fuel milage be better as long as I don't go over 65. I have done numerous figures on each tank and that is the sweet spot for fuel millage as well. I go back (as I suspect this guy goes back) to the says of the XT550 and the original KLR600 and the various Suzuki DR models.
Amusingly, most riders of the R1250GS and other big adventure bikes would be SIGNIFICANTLY happier and more comfortable riding one of these.
These sort of well fed mid-life crisis selfie boys who totter around the suburbs on an R1250GS might start to enjoy riding much more on a lighter, less powerful single with fewer aids and less electrickery.

I agree with most of your points and thanks for making the video. The stock tires for street driving are ok, but if you plan to do anything off-road I'd get rid of them right away. I immediately went with the TKC80's and the handling of the bike improved considerably. The T-REX racing upper crash guards are the best I've seen and I use them. You don't have to remove any panels to mount them and they look pretty cool while being very effective. I used the Happy Trails skid plate and center stand and for off road riding a person should consider going to soft panniers. I'm running the Tusk Pilot panniers which new are $180. Change out the footpegs for better foot control off-road. Although the foot pegs seem like a minor change, they make a big difference. I'm riding 70% off/30%on road and the bike is pretty good for the price. Like people say, it's not great at anything, but is good at most everything.
Yes sir, I would agree with all of the as well. I made this video, because there are too many videos talking about everything that needs to be done to make the bike better and I believe all those videos are scaring off some potential buyers, in my mind you average rider, will not be riding the bike much more than mostly street and some gravel or backroad 2 lane dirt. I have plans on my new tires, I put the TKC80's on my last KLR and will agree they too are better than stock, just trying to assure folks if they are on a budget, you could get by with the bike the way it comes. I also have some of my soft bags from my last bike as well, and would agree, the plastic would be better served like I am doing now which is mostly riding to work and a once a month my buddy an I meet up to ride some mini adventures but still mostly old back top. I dont want the average guy who is on a budget watching all the videos thinking oh man, I can barely buy this bike and I would need to do 3000-4000 dollars worth of up grades if that makes sense. I too love the bike and will make minor changes as I continue to ride, tires, in my mind are only good for as season anyhow, so that being a huge wear item will need replaced sooner or later anyhow,. @@Heartlanddualsport Hi Dale, I agree that nothing has to be done to the bike to head out. I too bought the 2022 adventure KLR650(non ABS on purpose) and I love it. I remember in 1974 buying my brand new Yamaha RD350 and I did nothing to that bike as well. I think you can buy and ride most bikes without making any changes, especially on a budget. But one fun part of the hobby is making the bike your own. People typically make changes to the bikes they buy to feel more comfortable on them etc.... While I mostly agree nothing has to be done on the KLR650 to ride and enjoy, I'd say a person should plan on spending $500 to $1000 after the purchase of the bike to add tires, or the other things that make the bike really nice. i.e...I really like having the tach and oil engine temp gauges on my KLR and so I did the thermo-bob and added the gauges. I definitely don't need the gauges to ride, but I love being able to look at them even though I know the sound of the engine. You know what I mean and I know what you're saying here. For those folks intimidated by the height of the seat(34".3) an after-market seat can be added inexpensively to lower the seat 1 1/2 to 2 inches which helps the shorter inseam. The KLR has been around almost as long as some of these reviewers have been alive, and if that doesn't tell them something then I guess nothing ever will.

Longer than many of them, I'm amused at the gravity of 'expert' opinion that is often simply wrong.
I've been riding for over 30 years, I'd be reluctant to claim the 'expertise' many very inexperienced riders claim.

Totally agree with your input. I just purchased my 22, 2 months ago. I absolutely love it (just wishin we could shake these MN winter temps lol). I got on the bandwagon with adding a bunch of stuff on the bike. I do think the add-ons were great improvements, but NOT totally necessary. But I couldn't ask for a better bike overall. I call it my offroad goldwing lol. My first ADV bike, and next to my first bike (1967 triumph bonnie) this is my favorite!!! I've owned all styles. Cruisers, touring, choppers, rockets, and muscle bikes. Hands down the klr for me!
Ha, it sounds like we have a lot in common, when I was 14 I got my motorcycle license and my first bike was a honda XL100 it would barley do the speed limit in town, and couldn't go 55 on Highway even if I had to, Ha. I loved that bike and was blessed to own many many more over my life, Like you crotch rockets, to cruisers, to fat Harleys etc.. This too is my favorite bike, minus, the love I had for my first XL100. I wish I still had it, just for the memories of it. I also purchased several "Upgrades" after watching so many videos, and after I rode the bike over an hour home, I was like what, there is nothing wrong with this bike. HA. I am all about personalizing and encourage folks to do it. The main reason for this video is for someone wanting the bike but scared there is a need for 1000's in extra just to make the bike rideable, and I disagree with that. If a guy wants it let him decide, not scare folks off the bike thinking it will cost them so much they might as well buy a T7. Thanks again for your input and I hope you have a blessed week. Exellent video, thank you. I bought a 2022 Royal Enfield Himalayan (older new rider), with the purpose of riding the Continental Divide trail with my sons. My oldest son will buy the same. My younger son will be getting the 2023 KLR. Looking just at its specs, it is hard to argue against it. If I were to pick one up, I'd get the shorter seat model.
Oh man, you guys are going to have so much fun. Yes sir, I was happy to see Kawasaki go this route,. That S model will open up the doors to so many new riders and to be honest, you average person isn't using the ground clearance that is on the original taller version, so it only makes sense to have one shorter from the factory, it will be correctly done with the rake angle and everything else right from the factory over, a lowering kit. I was hoping someday they would fix the suspension on the klr . Oh man . My 09 needed the upgrade bad . I am second owner. NavyThoma8 had before me . It was put together well before I got it . I just had to finish it off . If it is ever is finished. Lol ! I love mine . It will never be going to anyone else . Ride safe .

the adventure bike comes with crash bars, and the tires are not bad at all and I have had mine in the dirt within a week after buying it and it was just fine. If I wanted a dirt bike I would have bought one...lol
I could not agree more my friend. I will be doing a series of videos trying my best to explain all of this. I too have been on dirt and gravel roads and sandy loamy roads as well. The bike is just fine. All the Hype, you need to do this, this and this, is all nonsense. The bike is pretty dang good off the showroom floor and ultimately, you just cant beat it for the price point. man you are hitting it right on the nose with this video I bought my KLR adventure 2weeks ago love it I have a size 12 pair of square toe boots I wear and I have no problem what so ever getting my foot under the shifter the pegs are awesome and mind you I way 295 pounds and standing up on the pegs does not feal like my foot is goin to fall off the power is plunty me and my wife ride together and the bike comfortably goes down the highway at 75 no problem and I live New Mexico at almost 6000 feet and ride often at much higher altitudes I've already put 1250 on the bike it makes me smile every time the tires are awesome in the New Mexico sand and Rock and are only 65 bucks to replace your self what more can you ask for on a budget the only real complaint I have which is just a preference is I whish you could leave the saddlebags unlocked lmao
mine is abs and no problems at all allows the back tire to slip in the sand and Rock neaver feeling a lack of braking at all

Old guy here, 53. Been out of Motorcycles for 15 years because I had to raise a Family. Never had a Dirtbike or Harley. I am close to retiring and am looking forward to my next big adventure....exploring this Great Country on my KLR. This is a great bike for guys like Me.
Bonus I can get over 46mpg driving it to work. I like old school and simple. I think the KLR is fast. It's way faster than my Tahoe.
Ha, I am right there with you my friend. I retired in jan 2021, I was off a year and decided to go back and do some part time work while the what ever is going on right now is going on, That quickly lead to management spot and the last three weeks, I have put in over 60 hours a week. Ha, I will get back to the retirement soon though. In the mean time, Like you this bike is as fast as my Jeep and I have been perfectly happy with the gas milage riding it back and forth to work. Really enjoying mine, 1500mi in and enjoying it thoroughly as my first motorcycle. The ABS is excellent, you can enter a controlled slide with rear brake on dirt if you'd like. Shifter's great, stirrups are pleasant and not slippery when wet and cold like some people said they'd be. the easiest riding motorcycle I've ridden (rode every bike at the MSF course, and a few friends' bikes). I'm an experienced bicycle rider, and the handling is very bicycle-like.
I second your thoughts on the tires, no issue on hard pack dirt and gravel, grass, and pavement.
I'm a very reserved driver, I don't speed and hurry and I try to brake, accelerate, and corner as smoothly as possible, taking every drive as an opportunity to practice those skills. On the bike I apply the same attitude, and it's great fun.
Gonna go about 10,000 more this summer, from Wyoming up through Michigan over to New Hampshire and back in a few steps and stops, moto camping in between; testing out gear and strategy this weekend. Looking forward to it.

I’ve raced all disciplines of bicycles for 20 years and the KLR is easy to adapt to. I run Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres as they are better than the stock tyres on road and awesome off road.

I decided to wait for a t7. All the required fixes, doo, bob, reports of burning oil, weak springs and brakes, everthing rubber mounted, no lever guards… just seems like a lot of built in Problems or over sights. Should be good to go out if the box. If it was, I’d gladly swoop one up.
I completely understand, I know the T7 is an awesome machine as well. I think you will be happy with it. Like you say there is some rumors that hurt this bikes reputation, but in the end it is working flawlessly for me and I completely understand it snot for everyone. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment and know it is appreciated. If you don't mind, keep us posted on your T7, I had a really closer friend who had one and he did a couple of BDR's on his prior to selling it. He like me moved from the OKC area and sold his bike prior to moving. I like your matter-of-fact approach to your video. I am a new rider and have a 300 cc to learn on. I have this bike on my wish list once I get used to riding my current bike on and off road.
My only concern is that I do need to get on some hwy's, will I be able to do 70 to keep up with traffic?
This bike will do 70 and keep up on the highway, it is just funner to ride it at slower speeds, If you are always on the highway, this bike will still do it,. Keep us posted on what you decided and we truly appreciate the kind words and taking the time to watch and comment.

I've known about the KLR since they first came out, always wanted one, but never rode one. One of my first impressions from riding my 22 Traveler yesterday was how smooth it felt over bumps, rail road crossings...
**I was actually contemplating to just get a new Honda XR150L to have something different to play around with locally, when I saw the used 22 Traveler come up in my research within 100miles of where I live. I took the day off to go get it and ride it home. I almost took it out tonight to check out this LED headlight, but pretty tired from a long day of work (after staying up half the night researching KLR stuff) 😆 I would love to have that driving light setup like on your Adventure! 👍

The new KLR suspension is way better than the bikes in the past I really feel like Kawasaki got it right, from the start for 90% of the riders. I do agree, the driving lights on this especially from the factory are a game changer. I am not a huge night time rider, however, with that said, parts. of the year being dark by 6pm. These really come in handy to help light up the bar ditches, so you can see the deer and hogs before hey dart out in front of you on the old back roads. @@Heartlanddualsport Yeah...I work late often and if I ride my bike to work, I have a 20 mile ride home ( with just 3 stop signs) and fields on each side. I plan to research the lower bar aftermarket set up vs. factory Adventure upper fairing set up. I'm guessing from your reply that the factory setup is the best????

I just don't need a heavy weight bike to commute 5 miles to work. I do like the roadking but it's more bike than I need. I'm new to your channel, like today. So glad I found your channel. 👍😊
If it helps at all, in 99, I bought a brand new roading, and I understand, At that time, I went from a sport bike to the road king, in my mind, I love this bike so much more than I did the road king. Not knocking the Harley, it's an awesome machine in its own right, this bike just fits my personality better if that makes sense. I would never knock a Harley, I do however love my KLR and what it was designed to do. Thanks again brother and good luck on your search as well as welcome to the family. PS, if you are looking at the 2023, make sure the front end feels right, there have been a few that the triple clamp up front was adjusted too tightly. otherwise, the fuel pump etc, has already been fixed, the front triple tree being too tight, I dont know if that is uncommon or not, it is just something s I have been given feedback on.

I have never owned a motorcycle ever have ridden them before. I’m in my mid half century. I don’t plan on any Evel Knieval riding. We recently had a local shop opened up and saw the KLR650 Adventurer loaded. I was lucky enough to be able to test ride one. I was really nervous since it had been over 20yrs riding a motorcycle. So really wet behind the ears when it comes to motorcycles. However I do ride a lot road cycles with pedals. The difference is the engine. My first concern was starting from a start. What I found out it just doesn’t jump. Very smooth start and able to go. We rode around the neighborhood getting used to the start, stop, and handling characteristics. Wasn’t long before I started feeling comfortable on it. I felt like the bike wanted to stay under me and I was able to control it instead of it controlling me. As for the weight and being top heavy, I have no comparisons. So it didn’t bother me. I am still pondering on the buying. One thing I like is the price point. Won’t break the bank. With your review and Dork on the Road I feel like you all are straight and unbiased shooters. Blunt and to the point good or bad.

I was wondering if you were in E. Texas. Some of the area looked familiar, I'm in Longview. I got the SRC Moto Crash Bars, they look better than most others (IMO) and you don't have to get rid of anything except nuts and bolts.

I have a '22 KLR ADV. I call it a boomer bike. Won't get me in trouble unless I really try. It suits my (gen X) riding style perfectly. One of the best bikes I've owned.

I’ve had some incredible bikes…Yamaha… multiple KTM’s…and so on. But… I always regret selling my KLR 650. There’s just something about these things. Straight up fun.
Like you sir, I have been blessed to have a fair number of bikes over the years, I actually had a Gen two at the same time I owned a DRZ and an Africa twins, both fun bikes, one had to go, it was the KLR, fast forward, I am on this Gen 3 and I love it, several of the things in my mind that was not really up to snuff, suspension, not being fuel injected etc and Bam they fixed all those issues and I love Love Love this bike. Almost 3,000 miles on my Adventure model, and in my mind every OTHER bike is a compromise. I could get something better off-road but then not be able to do 90mph on the highway. I could get something that's better on the street but then not be able to off-road. I definitely CAN'T find something more comfortable. I call the saddle a sofa cushion. And for the money nothing can touch the versatility of this bike. Gen 3 is definitely the best yet!

This bike is so awesome straight off the showroom floor, it is just hard to beat money wise, and or bike wise, what it is able to do, on a budget and get the best bang for your buck in an adventure package. The KLR is not a race car and it is not a Rubicon. It is a reliable SUV of motorcycles.
Its funny you would mention a SUV comparison. In my mind one of the best ways to compare this bike is the Polaris Ranger, it will never be a fast bike like the Polaris Razor, but more utilitarian like a Ranger. It is a great bike and I love it. other bike in this price range gives you anything close to the 3rd Gen KLR gives you. And if you drive it as intended the foot pegs are actually awesome. They kill vibration on long road trips. This isn't and ISTD 6 DAY ENDURO. 90 % highway and fire dirt roads is what is about. So buy an enduro and a street bike and a two stroke woods/race bike. That why we have garages. And 4 bikes. But you will find yourself grabbing the KLR as your main beater. Polishing not required.

Breaking in my 23 Adventure on CO dirt roads and trails. I love it, because I don't expect the love child of a tank and a tractor to act like a KTM or Beemer. It’s solid and dirt bikes better than my Sporty or FXR (which have been over Engineer Pass and etc).
OH man, I so wish I was up there with you to help break it in, it will be in the hundreds here today with humidity being brutal at best. hahha, I would love to be in the mountains in CO.. I was just at the dealership yesterday looking at one. Being a shorter guy (5'7" tall 30" inseam) I've got to say that the shorter riders are going to have to lower the bike before even leaving the showroom. So buy some lowering links and pay them to install them there. Other than that, I agree with this video very much and enjoyed watching it.

I rode an 08 for 6 years. I'm 5'5 ,maybe 5'6 and never had a problem with it. You get used to sliding off to one side to get a foot down- it probably looked a little ridiculous, but whatever. I did buy another seat off ebay that I shaved an inch off of- I'd throw that on if I was expecting to do a lot of gravel/dirt roads.
There is an KLRs version for shorter riders. It had a one inch lower seat and the suspension is lowered one in for a total on two inches shorter overall. That’s the one I went with.
There is a lot to like about the KLR650. I appreciate the large gas tank. Why won't other ADV bike manufacturers do that? For one thing, they're required by regulators to list the weight with a full tank, so another three gallons of gas makes the advertised weight 18 pounds more and customers don't like that. The KLR is a tank and it earned that reputation. It's a very practical bike. I love the gray camo color scheme.
Thank you , I so agree, the fuel capacity makes it even better since you dont have to carry a roto-pack each outing like I did with the ole DRZ, The one time I didnt, I nearly ran out of fuel a farmer in the area was kind enough to give me some gas, I left him a nice tip, he was kind to do that for me. It's a relief to hear a bigger than average man say the suspension has improved! Sounds like they dialed up the spring rates for us Americans.
Yes sir. They really have done a great job. Making it better for us larger guys. I am pleased with the spring rates and the work they do for my style of riding. If a guy was riding hard trails faster. He would want to adjust it out more for that style of riding. But general back roads and speed they do fine. Depending on what you do with your bike, you may be fine. The suspension on this bike compared to the 09 is night and day, this one is much better and I too understand the problem with the suspension on the 09 form the factory. I got the adventure 2024 and i wish i didn't because i replaced the plastic paniers that can break when you drop bike (which anyone will do at some point) with the tusk Olympus and no matter what crash bar you buy, you almost always have to remove the flimsy top crash bars, which i replaced with the tusk so to me, there is no reason to get the adventure from the get go, but just the base model. I do love my KLR, i just went overboard.

Truth!!! this bike is not a race bike, but... if you are looking for a faithfull trail adventure bike, I have no complaints about this 2022 kawasaki KLR650 . NONE!

I should not be buying anything right now, but dammit, I have had the itch for a bike I can take out on the back roads around here, dirt roads, and just go and clear my head putzing around. I have a very ice Yamaha RS Silverado, damn thing is gorgeous, it's a one off. I am not taking that on the dirt roads around here. I was looking at the Yamaha TW200, I am that laid back, but none available anywhere around here. But then I started looking around at other options. The KTM, the Yamaha, Royal Enfield and the Kawasaki... The KTM, looks good, not me. The RE, very cool bike, but no dealer near me and it is more than the KLR. The pickings from Yamaha, other than the TW, I'm not interested in spending $10,000. I found a KLR near me, a leftover 22 Adventure non ABS for only a grand more than a new TW200... Will be calling them in the morning... ;-)

Another thing about comparing these bikes to pretty much any KTM bike is if you’re doing any stop and go riding, whether it be a hard/slow section of a BDR or just putting around town, KTMs are HOT blooded. It’s part of the trade off for having a beast of an engine but you better believe you’re going to feel the heat if you’re taking it slow on a KTM they much prefer a lot of air and water pumping through them. One of the biggest unsung attributes of a bike in my opinion is how hot it runs because I’m slow.

Most people that "complain" are buying USED bikes.....with clapped out suspension and neglected maintenance, hence the bad reviews!....LOL...I just purchased a 2022 DRZ400, and it's amazing......No complaints at all....... I came from riding 160hp+ street bikes my whole life, now I'm into Dirt/Off-road.....and it's a different world....you buy the Tool for the job, not the Fastest or Latest and Greatest......sadly I think most people are buying the wrong bike and don't fully understand What they need.....it's all compromise with Dual Sport....and people are being sold these 500+lbs adventure bikes that are NOT meant to go past a simple dirt road, lol.
That is very well said my friend. I could not agree with you more. I loved my DRZ, and Like you mentioned, I can see myself with one or another dual sport for the single track top stuff eventually as well. At one time I had a Ducati, a DRZ and a 250 in the garage. I loved my sport bikes as well, but I am very happy with the ole KLR I have now, I do find myself looking at the DRZ from time to time and I wish I had kept mine to be honest with you, Like you said, its just another tool for a different job. Thanks for the info. I'm considering buying one of these but havent made up my mind. A friend got me interested in dual sport / adventure bikes and I'm researching different makes. He rides a Yamaha T7 but I dont want to spend that much on my first bike as I am a brand new rider. What part of East Texas are you in now? I'm down in Southeast Texas near Beaumont and looking for groups to ride with. I also recently retired from a local fire dept.

Just bought an 09 in good shape with 15K miles, and if the price of tires doesn't kill me commuting 80 miles round trip for work, then I'll be ahead in fuel savings vs my mini van.
As for speed, here where I'm at in Pa deer can jump out any moment day or night....one reason I gave up a much faster bike.

I so agree with both the tires as well as the Deer. Since you mentioned tires, I understand the Dunlop TrailMax some folks are getting as much as 8000 miles out of a set of them as well as the motoz tractionator, are very high milage. Motoz are on backorder as we speak, but when they come back in, that is what I plan on spooning on next, they are a great high milage 50-50 tires. HYdenou (SP) are suppose to be good as well. Find one that fits your budget and fits the goals of what you want to do with it. I would think this KLR would vibrate a hair more since is is a larger piston moving.
