As a Rays fan I'm glad he's finally in the Hall, I hope we retire his number 29 for the 5 years he spent with us (if we retired Boggs' 12 for 2 years we should retire McGriff's)
I was sounding the alarm years ago when Jeff Bagwell went in six years ago. I would compare the two because they were two first basemen in the NL for most of the 90s. McGriff has more home runs, rbi, hits and total bases than Bagwell. There was suspicion of PEDs on him, while there was no suspicion on McGriff. He had one more all star, same silver slugger, but McGriff has WS ring. It’s the voters, and that’s why they had to come up with another committee to put guys like this in. Great point on the all star snubs in the late eighties. McGriff was a class act too. Good video..
@down bad dav We were talking about players when they were the Devil Rays from 1998-2007, Longoria is easily the best Ray of all-time (and my favorite player) but he debuted the year they shortened their name.
I followed McGriff's career since 1987 and will admit I was very disappointed when the Blue Jays traded him to the Padres in 1990. For me McGriff was the face of the Blue Jays franchise and trading him made absolutely no sense to me at the time. I just wonder which ballcap he will wear in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Blue Jays? Braves? Devil Rays? If I was a betting man, I would go with the Braves. Rant - If that damn Jimy Williams would have played McGriff more in 1987, the Blue Jays would have won the Eastern Division and McGriff would easily have 500+ Home Runs!

It was well overdue, I'm just glad they did it now, rather than a posthumous induction
Is he going in as a Ray?
Hope they do in the new ballpark. He’s from the Tampa area too so it would be fitting.
My all time favorite player. Been waiting for this HoF indicution for a looong time.
We all were, and we're happy he's made it (albeit long overdue). He's got such a cool name.
@@BaseballAF And he SHOULD have been in like 10 years ago!
Glad to see another Ray in the Hall!
Its about time for McGriff!
The only other is Wade boggs and he barely played for the rays

Thanks dude! I'm glad he's finally in the Hall, and his great personality definitely helped too.
Yea, I’m glad they came up with another committee to put McGriff in.
Greatest Devil Ray of all time?
I think so
That would probably go to Carl Crawford in my opinion.
That's fair

I'd say the Devil Rays only because it's his hometown team, but I could easily see him in a Braves cap
