Awful! I hope Sac Regional Transit is able to get the truck driver’s insurance and file a claim with them! Need to have police monitoring the intersection and citing truck drivers for violating.
They plan to convert R Street from a two way street to a ome way street eastbound so trucks and cars can use that as the right turn lane and make turning right on Stockton Blvd from 34th st fully illegal to all vehcles. I just hope the project will be more than just painting new lines and actually modify the roadways to prevent right turns on 34th st Stockton and block opposite direction traffic from turning the wrong way on R St.
I think the reason why the US&S bell rings until the gate fully lowers is because that gate mech might have originally been for a crossing that is set to cut off the bells when the gate fully lowers. But given this accident happened, they just used this gate mech but forgot to set it to keep the bell on. Also just wanna say, that Siemens bell is a gonner. Still can't believe the mast signal fared the worst here. Thankfully the WCH bell most likely survived since it's mast pole didn't directly hit the ground due to cantilever mounts and well how thick the mast is. Still though they really should rebuild that area to prevent this from happening in the future.
That explains why Bradshaw Rd only received 1 new mechanism instead of being a first pair (set 1) installed. I had a feeling about this when I seen this signal knocked down again then through about Bradahaw Rd. The scenario could be these: 1: The new mech was originally for Bradshaw Rd's median signal which is a bell-less signal so the bell sequence for it didn't matter meaning they didn't need to set a bell sequence and once diverted to being used here, they didn't change the bell sequence. 2: Like you already mentioned, The mechanism may have been originally for a ring till gates lower crossing which SACRT crossings with that sequence left are 17th St, 29th St, and 30th St and all are two signals. Horn Rd possibly also if they are planning to change that sequence from ring when gates lower and rise (in motion) to ring till gates lower when new mechs are installed (hoepfully they don't change the sequence) and using a mech from one of these crossings, they decided to set Bradshaw Rd back one mechanism since it wasn't fully going to be changed yet anyway and use the would be mech for Bradshaw Rd for one of those crossings since they are two signals to keep them being complete replacements while Brashaw was going to have 2 of 4 reolaced first originally like Royal Oaks Dr and 65th St only had the first set replaced.
@@MobileRailSpotterRxR for Horn Rd even if they do install the new gate mechs, the bell sequence won't be affected unless they bypass the bell switch in the gate mech allowing the bells to ring when the gate is down. What's in charge of determining whether or not the bell rings when the gate is rising is a relay inside the case/bungalow. Which means even if the bell switch is set to cut off the bells when the gate lowers, as long as that relay is set to keep the overall power to the bells on, once the gate mech rises and the switch is closed again, the bell will ring again. That's how there's 4 total bell sequences for gated crossings
@@zachzebra56 I always had a feeling the bell sequence was controlled also by the relay case. Since some crossings that also have gateless pedestrian signals have a bell shuoff sequence same as the gates shut off sequence. I sometimes every once in a while bring it up as a theory but never was to sure. The only thing though after installing new mechanisms at X St, the sequence of the bells and lights were changed and for so far these mechanism changes SACRT is doing with the contractor they hired aren't touching the relay cases at each crossing so hopefully X St doesn't have a defect thats caused that bell and light sequence change. Royal Oaks Dr the southern signal bell sequence was changed from ring till gate lowers to ring through till gate starts rising but they possibly could of intentionally changed that to match the northern signal plus being a four lane roadway. They didn't change the double sequences at Oxford St or at 39th St either though but those are small two lane crossings.
@@MobileRailSpotterRxR I think I remember one time you said that the crossings in your area at least if there was a malfunction in the case, the bells and lights would shut off once the gates begin rising. Could be a failsafe to let signal maintainers know that something in the relay case needs to be repaired/replaced.
How many times has been? I literally live down the street from this crossing and I remember how they blocked off this intersection for a whole day as they had to fix and clean everything up. The city and RT need to finally build a bridge over this intersection because it’s getting way too chaotic.
Their is a plan SACRT and the city is working on now to convert R Street between 34th St and Stockton Blvd from a two way to a one way street so trucks and any other vehicles can turn right to Stockton their and make it fully illegal to turn right at the Stockton Blvd intersection. I just hope the project isn't just painting new lines and actually make a right turn at Stockton Blvd Preventable by modifying part of the roadway on 34th St that a right turn can't be made at all. Also include the right turn from Stockton Blvd to R Street will need to be modified also to prevent wrong way drivers when R St is converted to one was eastbound. They also need to put curb dividers in the middle of Stockton Blvd on both sides of the crossing especially the south side as to prevent R St wrong way drivers and left turns off if R Street after converted. Was Originally Going To Comment: I'm usually not one for grade seperation at crossings but they need to do something come up with a plan at this crossing because after 2020 driver got 10 times worse everywhere and this intersection is just one of the locations driver loose brain cells at especially trucks. This intersection always been unique with its setup causing problems but like said after 2020, the driving here is just terrible. I've seen some intersection railroad crossings converted into traffic circles at crossings to reduce car speeds and keep traffic flowing smoothly without traffic lights and better crossing setups instead if an intersection crossing setup like this. Thats something I wish they could do here and the way 34th St, Stockton Blvd, and R Street all intersect right here you would think they should of made this a traffic circle if the light rail was going to be built through it. Again? Bloody Ell' they really need to ban trucks from turning right at this intersection, there is a side street right before the crossing on 34th, they should make that a one way and make trucks use that instead of turning right here and causing the cantilever and traffic lights to get hit. OR make it too where NO ONE is able to turn right from 34th onto Stockton! That turn alone is way too sharp, and in my opinion pointless. Again, that side street right before the crossing on 34th, should be used for people turning right onto stockton from 34th

Nice! Glad the US&S e-bell got reused.
Thanks! TBH SACRT has been coming with the unexpected lately in crossing equipment.

This crossing is great with ASC and US&S E-Bells but has a dark background of cantilever deaths
Man, this is quite a bad intersection if this many cantilevers just died this many times, rip
What could the future hold for the Stockton Blvd-34th St crossing? Also RIP the 4th cantilever, former gated mass, and nearby traffic signal.
