Great video. An example of character creation is invaluable especially for new players. There is one this I think you should have mentioned and I'm just going to quote directly from the Roleplaying in Glorantha book. P.28 "Some events are important only to certain Homelands. If your Homeland is listed as participating, you must roll or pick a result. If your Homeland is not listed in the Participating Homelands entry, you can skip the event if you choose. You can can still choose to roll, even if your Homeland is not listed as participating. History has a way of effecting everyone, no matter where they're from." You chose the to skip the events in which your Homeland didn't participate and there is nothing wrong with that but I think people should know that the option to use the other events exists. Once again, great job.
So far this is an excellent series of vids on RQG character gen! I think it is important that people understand that RQG char gen is the opposite of quick char gen like in more recent systems like Fate or PbtA. It's also more involved than D&D 5E (for want of a mainstream midpoint model). Over the years I often find I prefer rpg systems that have reasonably quick char gen so I can jump right into play quickly, and I can easily see why many more recent games have moved in that direction. However spending more time on char gen isn't a bad thing with RQG. The lengthy char gen process, esp the family history part, really is quite immersive and imbeds the character firmly within the setting. Your character can really only exist within Glorantha, and within the richness of the regions described in character gen. I think this is great, it really makes the numbers come alive, and you feel you have 'discovered' a character who is already living within Glorantha. It may take some time, but it's enjoyable to do (like a mini-game), and the outcome is well worth it. The focus on Passions and Virtues (well they are portrayed as 'Runes' here) has been imported from Greg Stafford's Pendragon game, and it really helps makes the characters come alive. The Family History here in RQG is essientially just a random Passion/Rune generation process, perhaps it can be thought of as an 'Character Alignment' Generator. However the insights you gain as to how those Passions and Rune virtues are developed, as well as the historical tidbits, really is an excellent way to get a grip on your 'discovery' of the character. They really drive how you roleplay the character. Love it! Another great video, thanks for posting! Looking forward to more in this series
Nice video - it does seem that there isn't much on RQG on UA-cam as yet. Starting passions are at 60%, and if you roll the same passion again it gets a +10% increase. The ref is on page 29 in bold on the left column. You missed rolling on the 'Jaldon Goldentooth Summoned' event, as when you rolled 20 for the Battle of Pennel Ford it dorected you back to that event on p42.
Btw, the "Hate passion for another land or people" during your roll that produced "Great Winter, year 2", I would've picked something that intimately had to do with what happened in that time (war) and if looking back there you can read (once again) that hordes of scorpion men invaded. So, a Hate for Scorpion Men would really be adequate, also being in line with the character's Hate for Chaos (since Scorpion Men are chaos beings).
Thank you for this content it helps. That said towards the end of the video your character accompanied Argrath to Jaldon Goldentooth Summoned (ABOVE) you should have gone back to the event Jaldon Goldentooth Summoned on the previous page and rolled as its said in the event (ABOVE). Most of the rolls on Jaldon Goldentooths list would have sent you too Liberation of Pavis in 1625. That is just a smal detail how ever and again thanks for your content. And please correct me if i understand that incorrectly. It helped me as a new GM for RQ in introducing character creation to nre players. Thanks one love and all that.
Also, in "Starting Passions" p26, second paragraph "As a member of a Homeland, you adventurer starts with three Passions at 60%." So Esrolvula should have started with three Passions (typically: Love family, Loyalty Colimar, Loyalty Ernaldori) Great video anyway and much needed I believe :)
This character generation is insane and wonderful! I just ordered the slipcase set :) The only downside I see is that this will get out of date as the campaign time progresses, but I guess you can always use the "skip" rules (or perhaps updated versions of these tables will appear in future publications).
If one parent/grandparent is killed I just switch to the one that is alive. I don't know if it's an optional rule at all but I just like the whole life path thing so I like to get the most out of it I can. At least one of the characters I have made has had both parents killed before majority so I had to go for the aunt/uncle/temple orphan option.
Holy fuck. What a long creation process. At 35:48 you called the 19 before you rolled it. And again at 36:03. Perhaps there was a slight delay in the filming?
I think you would have a better product if you had read the rules at least once before making the character. I like the video none the less. Is there a maximum number of passions?
I only saw places on the character sheet for "favored" grandparent at first. Also, the rulebook seems to only refer to "favored" grandparent. I understand now that a lot of people go through the Family History for all four grandparents.

I appreciate your feedback. Pinned!
When you have another passion you already had, you add a +10
Really excellent video and your presentation is superb
"I will avenge you Mother! I will avenge you Bera!". Epic. Really like these vids!
I just stumbled on your videos and these are so good. I've been wanting to get into Runequest for years, and the time and stars are right. Thank you!
pro tip: put page numbers on the character sheet for reference.

5 years later ther still isnt much. Currently getting into it and I want to play o.O
Awesome vid. Enjoyed your history. The tables really give us a feel for the setting.
Agreed. I don't know what a lot of it means just yet, but I have a lot of material to digest from the slipcase!

I have those! Did them in the Homeland video (Part 1).

Poor granny eaten by the Crimson Bat (Size 180) - that's gotta hurt!
I love these videos!

Great idea.
We did the same thing. I even had a player get to using Aunts and Uncles. :) Though I think for my next campaign we'll keep to just one.
Rolling up family history looks similar to that in the Pendragon RPG. I guess passions fulfill a similar role too.
If I recall, the creator of Pendragon is also the creator of Glorantha?
@@KevRTrem Correct, Greg Stafford created both RPGs.
23:50 You rolled 18. That should have been Dead (was married).
Hi, I'd like to link this series as a resource for my players. Mind making a playlist out of your character creation vids?
Thanks for reminding me. I had intended to do that. Done! ua-cam.com/channels/C9EqFqKBETCBse8JuOOYOg.htmlplaylists?disable_polymer=1
Holy fuck. What a long creation process. At 35:48 you called the 19 before you rolled it. And again at 36:03. Perhaps there was a slight delay in the filming?
@39:20 : you never rolled the sacking?
Thanks for the correction. My bad.
I think you would have a better product if you had read the rules at least once before making the character. I like the video none the less. Is there a maximum number of passions?
Not that I'm aware of. I've seen characters stacked with Passions.
Why are there only 2 grandparents instead of 4?
I only saw places on the character sheet for "favored" grandparent at first. Also, the rulebook seems to only refer to "favored" grandparent. I understand now that a lot of people go through the Family History for all four grandparents.
