I take 6 strands and thread the needle, but I tie a knot only on one end of the thread, and I use only 6 strands for embroidery, not 12. It also may be 3 strands, as you say but then both ends must be tied together with a knot, to make 6 strands.
Hi Anne! Yes, sure, it can be taken out. You can embroider on clothes, pillow cases, napkins, tablecloths and more. Or you can leave it in the hoop and hang on the wall :)

Yes, you can reuse the paper. And usually the threads won't get loose especially if it's just a wall art

What do you do if the fabric keeps sliding out a bit of the hoop (even though it's
screwed tight)?
