Ray tracing in video games just doesn't seem like the true ray tracing that you'd find in rendering engines like blender or Maya. Game engines probably use some type of pipeline that reduces the amount of "rays" cast to minimize load. It's really noticeable in outdoor spaces where there's a mix of natural and artificial lighting where surfaces do not accurately reflect the characteristics of surrounding surfaces. Ambient occlusion doesn't solve this problem because it doesn't treat surfaces as "light" sources which ray tracing would ultimately do. The "cheat" becomes obvious when you notice that dark areas are classified "dark" not because rays don't reach them but because the engine knows that they're not directly facing the global light source - true ray tracing wouldn't force that classification.
Black Myth Wukong shouldn't be included since it hasn't released yet. It's only promises. Nvidia also promised Raytracing in Atomic Heart and it launched without it.
If you keep talking about side by side comparisons, can you at least show us exactly that? How can we tell the difference when we don't see it? You even pointed it out for Black Myth Wukong, but didn't bother to include it for a lot of games on this video
Just too bad these games are mostly unplayable with it on, unless you have a $4k PC. I've yet to play a game that can even manage 30fps with raytracing on PS5. Even Witcher 3, which is an old game at this point with only mildly improved graphics on PS5 otherwise.
@@chrislair6832 It's on my second playthrough backlog, so I guess we'll see. Haven't touched it since I bought my PS5. Was halfway through 2016 on my way through the series when my PS4 officially shat out, and I didn't have the fortitude to repeat it all right away.
@@dctrbrass If we're talking remasters/updates, yeah, I'd agree. At least until standard, mid-tier hardware can actually handle raytracing. If we're talking new games, I'd prefer they focus on innovating gameplay, because stuff is getting pretty stale. That and releasing finished games.
@ehenningsen rtx 4000 series does a decent job but wish it performed better. Wish amd had better hardware to handle it. Also nvidia 4070 super has 12 gb vram and cyberpunk will run out of memory and crash if you use ray tracing. Atleast for me it does.
@Maledis87 It would run out of VRAM at 4k, but not at 1440p, which is what that card is targeted for. In fact, almost all titles don't go past 12GB of VRAM at 4k except in edge cases (like Pathtracing) But I get what you are saying. Pathtracing is a newer tech that began about the time the 4000 series came out, which should be much better ran with the 5000 series. Raytracing is here to stay, which we won't think twice about it in the future. Each generation will get better.
Useless technology in my opinion. Personally I turn on ray tracing just to see how the game looks then turn it off and forget about it. I don't know why nowadays the developers are focusing on very demanding realistic looking graphics instead of fun, engaging gameplay.
@@marcocerritos9147 If you can consider a 3080 garbage, then yes...However, I prefer to play at 1440p at high fps rather than dial down the settings an even resolution in some cases. RT is to demanding even for the new hardware and the visual impact is not worth it. The only games, in my opinion, that benefit from RT are Cyberpunk, Control and Alan Wake 2 but these games still look great without RT.
Depends on the game. For example in cyberpunk 2077 it makes a big difference in most places that it adds to that immersion factor. Open world AAA titles are about immersion and rtx definitely helps. But yeah u need a powerful rig to run it but it is worth it. But i wish game developers could work more on optimising them.
This is a pointless video. Graphics do not matter in video games. It is all about the gameplay. Somewhere down the line, gamers today have forgotten that. Such a shame.
@@michaelboys2602 I beg to differ . Games like rdr2 or ghost of tsushima wouldnt be nearly as fun without the stunning visuals. I spent hours just riding around admiring the landscapes

They’re too big.
I hear that tictoc has little short videos of you can be bothered to watch a full length video

Played both Plague Tales...stunning.
Awesome games! I want a TV show
where's cyberpunk ?
my favorite current gen game, still. I did enjoy horizon fw but I keep going back to cyberpunk :)
Love the videos! Keep up the great work.
I haven't seen a game with a better looking world than Avatar so far on PC.

Doom eternal would like to meet you
Yep doom eternal on my 3080 with Ray tracing Mac settings. I get well over 140 at 1440p

Maybe they should focus on current gen textures rather than this fancy lighting? IMO

Settings? Change what?!? Just set to ultra with path tracing on and hope it plays well ha
What gpu??
What game is this? At 0:40 - 0:47?
Spider man 2
Raytracing is completely overrated
For you, perhaps.
