Broadcast on STV's Boxed Set on 01/01/2000.
The gig was staged for the opening of The Scottish Parliament in the shadow of the beautiful Edinburgh Castle. "John Anderson" is a cover of the Robert Burns song while "Don’t Let Me Down" is a Beatles cover. Both of which were played for the first and only time.

Once got accused of being openly gay (in the 90's) for saying I fancied Shirley Manson. To this day, I'll be gay for her and every Garbage song I hear. 2.0 was my jam, still can sing it from memory.
I am a man and I would transition if being gay for Shirley meant I had a chance
It's funny, but as a straight man I've always loved this band and found Shirley quite attractive. Not sure why that would anyone gay though? Some people have odd opinions I find.

Being a brit who grew up in america i did not get the banter, sarcasm and piss taking, the brits dish out to each other when i came back permenently in the early 2000's. Some bloke at a pub asked me if i was gay. Being the joker that i am, i took him literally. Gay meaning happy. I was a smart ass. And i said, yeah i am gay. These two blokes were seriously homophobic and totally insecure in themselves they took it upon themsleves to start having a go, verbally at me. At which point my friend and i had to put them in their place by explaining the situation that not only am i not homosexual, but i took the word literally. I kicked their asses at snooker nonetheless. They must have really sucked at the game as i was new at it. I only played american billiard 9 ball. Wankers they were. Horrible people inside and out.
They probably didn't know who Shirley Manson was and mixed the name up with Marilyn Manson. Shirley Manson was beautiful and one of the hottest female rock star icons of the 90's.
Shirley is a beautiful person.

I was there, Edinburgh is my home town and Garbage were my absolute favourite band at the time (still are!). It was heaven.

That Scotisch Voice VOW. So fantastic.
Watched this this start to finish, aside from the initial vocal warming, ( I was afraid that Shirely was a Terminator, but this proves she isn't, or at the least she wasn't one in 1999 ) every member was off the chart on point this entire set. You watch closely you can see the energy from the crowd power them. Thanks for this post will be back again, for more 🤘😎🤘 We are all truly blessed to have garbage.

Was lucky enough to see garbage the world famous Glasgow Barrowlands before the pandemic hit, it was a long 20 years in the making. Been a fan since day 1 🤘
I am in the same boat. A fan since 1995. Never seen them and they have done over 1000 shows total. Most of them in the US where i was for 20 odd years. In california. Never seen them. I am an idiot. I have this thing about huge crowds. Gonna swallow it as i am getting on a bit at 52 now and want to see them before i die or one of them, god forbid. goes first. If one of them goes first its the end of garbage as we know it. Guranteed. Shirley is to be replaced by whom? The same can be said of any of them. Replace butch with whom? Replace mark with whom? Replace duke? Replace Eric? With whom. They cant just be replaced. It does nto work like that. The 10.000 maniacs tried to replace natalie merchant and you cant replace her either. Some people cannot be replaced nor replicated. Some bands just die.

I usually prefer studio versions, but the rendition of "You look so fine" in this concert blows every other version out of the water!
This concert also has in my opinion the best live version of Hammering In My Head they have preformed.

The camera and audio didn't capture the audience well, I was there that night and I can fully recall the atmosphere being electric. One of the best shows I've been too. Everyone was having the night of their life.

@@taintedlife2618 I am finding comments of mine from a year ago so i think i have been at it for over a year now. Been more or less safely obssessed with them since i was 25 in 95. There are worse things to binge on in life so dont feel bad.
I was at this gig when I was 16. Recorded it on VHS when STV broadcast it on Hogmanay later that year. Re-discovered it on UA-cam 3 years ago, and I just keep on coming back to it. Love this band. The audio mix in this recording could be a lot better but it's just a delight to reminisce about that tremendous day on 1st July 1999. ❤️🏴🎤🎸🥁🎸
