I’ve never understood why she hated consort Yu and wanted to kill her baby.
It's all about rank, position and power. For bearing a healthy son, a concubine is praised, showered with gifts, and gains much prestige. The healthier and stronger the sons, and the more of them she can bear, the better; one who gives girl children is at best pitied, and at worst scorned.
