Reviving a lake using artificial wetlands in Delhi

- Tarun Sebastian Nanda, a civil and environmental engineer has taken up a project of cleaning the Hauz Khas lake in Delhi by using artificially constructed wetlands. These wetlands act as biofilters and are far easier to maintain than mechanical treatment plants.
Constructed wetlands are a cost-effective method of treating wastewater and polluted water bodies.
If it were not for UA-cam, I would never have heard of this man's laudable initiative. Well done, Mr Nanda, and I hope some of the rich Indians contribute money to achieving your goals.
You should not use plastic which will leech into the lake. Just plant cat's tail and bull rush plants along the edges of the lake which absorbs nitrates.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Rs10 - 15 Lakhs is peanuts to most residents in the very neighbourhood of that lake (Hauz Khas) - just the cost of a car they'd gift their teen daughter --- why not spend a fraction jointly and gift yourself and your neighbourhood a priceless asset?
I have gone to Hauz khaz and seen the change from the past 10 years..it has significantly improved and water level has increased even though it was winters
Plant weeds / grass on the embankment of the lake to filter the water.
Very good sharing
Can we contribute, as In , with hands and hearts, and social media...
Hauz has been one of the favourite places and watching it revive is a satisfactory feeling...
Otherwise these lands would become concrete forests with evergreedy social animals
Would like to see a follow up ,and the lake at present times .
People like you should be honoured and applaud..
Great initiative! Is there a follow up to this video? I want to see what the lake looks like today.
Very good initiative Sir.Expecting more ideas for protecting our nature. All the very best for your endeavour.
Its a good start, but it would work better if the plants were propogated first in a nursery area of the water.
Why don't the Delhi Government helping with this project? It'll be a great success if they get the funding.
very good initiative brother
Thank you sir for protecting India.
WONDERFUL EFFORT. SIR I APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORTS.
Get your friends to plant tomatoes and lettuce in the floating islands and put a little net around them to protect from the birds. They will see lots of Free food and many will copy 👍👍
Is there an update to the hauz khas lake?
Have you donated mam ??🙏
Yes
Please tell me the list of plants used here?
I think this video is uploaded before a few days also. But still thanks.
Beautiful and good work, salute you.
you should look for Marino Morikawa. a peruvian
would love to se an update please . also use flowering plants for pollinators .
will it be useful to clean ganga river ecosystem?
I always think why people involve in Riots instead of doing this kind of good initiative!🤔
Good Idea, But using plastic is not good, plants and flowers like Lotus can be use .
Thank you CSE
Great work. Simple innovative.
Well done mr nanda
Bro, theres a lot of good will in india and Dehli more than others places needs it. I would worry more about the people and how they would misuse it once its cleaned though. please make an educational board there to educate on the harms of putting pollutants so it doesn't happen again. Put your time in visiting donators (thers a lot-once you find one, you'll find them all! )and I would visit aquaponic farmers to ask to donate and participate( very few as this is still new)
Definitely ask from Isha Foundation!!!!!
Good job all the best
Nice initiative.. good luck..
Need list of names of biofillter plants please
Amazing
Nice
Add solar floting fountain
Is there part 2 of this video ? that shows results after 2 years in 2020
Yes
Nice idea - but would it not be better to plant large wetlands on the embankment without the use of plastics - the state the river is in now, it requires more than just a few tiny floating wetlands to have any real effect.
The plastics are recycled, so they are actually helping reduce plastic waste. A large wetland would be better but would require more money.
Very well done.
Gud intiation
Are the islands entirely biodegradable? Is the netting plastic?
I wanted to know how can I do it in my farm lake. To reduce evaporations and improve oxygen level, ( we have fish in lake and we use water to plan the farm trees)
Beautiful! Keep up the great well work!
I will surely make a donation.
2 points:
1. Plastics don't last a hundred years. They break down within a decade.
2. Mali is skilled labour
Save Our Planet
Commendable work
Sewerage has to be treated before putting it in to lake
How about trying to get rid of all that smog? Delhi's air quality is a health hazard.
Colombus??????
Please provide us sources so that we can contact them
Looks like some kind of teal algea or bluegreen algea
How about Lotus
Amazing work!
Is he belongs to Odiash ?
What type of plants are used?
Sebastian Nanda, where is he from?
I don't think this is the solution...
Not this. Created natural mud pits. planted 🌲 trees. Don't use plastic. Create small islands . This is house of birds, insects, animals & humen.
Create tiny lands on ponds ( biodiversity)
🙏👍
Couldn't the Delhi Govt help here ? seriously .
Any updates?
Some better work is done in Bangalore too, like better wetlands.
Hey clean video
One year update please
