I have an AH-4 connected to my IC-7600 with the factory cable and COAX feeding a horizontal DELTA LOOP that is only about 7 feet high. Total 20 AWG bare copper wire length of the Delta Loop is about 210 feet. Very robust. Tunes 160 -> 10 meters. Installed in my backyard about 6 years ago. I started with AWG 26 gauge magnet wire (clear coated) but wire was too thin and kept breaking. I moved up to 24, then 22 and now finally 20 gauge BARE copper wire which has not (yet :-) broken. I live in an HOA with antenna restrictions. The bare copper 20 gauge wire turns “black” in the Arizona sun in just a few weeks and renders the antenna wire virtually invisible. Support poles are camouflaged and two have weighted halyards with plastic pulleys to keep tension on the Delta Loop wire. 3rd camouflaged pole has AH-4 atop it with Delta Loop hooked directly to it. No BALUNs. No Ferrite beads. I was not aware of the AH-730 when I purchased the AH-4 ten years ago. Will look up the specs on the AH-730. I am looking for a tuner that will handle more power. Sounds like a great setup, Bill. The AH-730 handles 150W PEP, so little more than the AH-4. It's a fantastic tuner and I'm planning to get a second one for /P use. 73
I think I would be more inerested in seeing the max for the Coax feed into the Tuner. I would imagine the only thing to consider would be any reactence that may be introduced for the longer lenghts. I have the AH-4 with the standard 30 foot controller cable and about the same for the coax feed to the tuner. And like you I also modified mine to have a removable coax connector at the bottom of the case. I found it to be much more convenant as needed. 73 and thanks for sharing Vic de KE8JWE
@@n5yiz usualy abov 150 fet you start to get broblem on feed line you start to luse power output i tested at 200 foot rg213 losing about 25w to 35 w 4 the remot usualy if yoy mantain a certen diamater you can go up to 1000foot
I have one of the large clamp-on chokes around several coils of the coax just below the connection point. I am not sure if it makes any difference or not. I was more concerned with stopping RFI. I'm not sure if a common mode choke is necessary. I had one on there in the past and noticed no difference. This is with my mobile setup.
Which cable are you referring? I know some vendors don't mention it, but the AH-730 comes with the tuner cable. The longer cable in the video is a DIY assembly. The connectors are available on ebay or Amazon.

Hi, I'm in Canada and am interested in what kind of cable the standard Icom 30 ft cable is (I need to extend that cable to about 75 ft) and if I could source a similar one locally, and would appreciate your help. From what details of I can glean on Icom pictures on line, it seems that it is the "KVC36 UL Standard Kuramo Electric Under 100V UL/AWM standard signal cable" and it is 4 wires, about #20AWG and unshielded(?). Does this look right? If it is really unshielded, which I am surprised, I am thinking of trying a Cat 5 or Cat 6 UTP cable like from Home Depot... I am curious where you got your extension cable? Cable supplied with the AH-730 is "KANZACC 2021 0.3mm2 LFV-R" (4-conductor + shield). Chart shows to equivalent to 22AWG which seems very small. I'm not sure of the cable specs for the AH-4 as it's on the truck, but it's non-shielded. The longer DIY cable I made is 16AWG direct bury cable from Amazon. The Amazon cable is far better than both of the factory cables, but it's unshielded. The wire I used for the extension is Voltive V-1211 available on Amazon.
Did you find adding some ferrite made any difference? If so, what type did you add? Also, do you think using shielded control cable and grounding out the shield on the tuner or radio end would help in any way? I have an AH-4 and IC-7000 but get ridiculous amounts of noise....
I'm not sure if the clamp-on ferrite I added to the cable on the inside did anything. I never used it without the added ferrite. I'm guessing it made little if any difference. With that said, I don't have any interference so not sure. There's a guy in Japan that sells an internal ferrite kit for the Icom tuners. I'll see if I can find the link.
