  • This video is about the Clarks brand of shoes and its history, where it was invented and how it became famous and then the relationship to Jamaica and Jamaican culture. Bob Marley, Vybz Kartel and Popcaan are just a few of the famous Jamaicans that think the shoes are a must have and so does almost every Jamaican male. Find out why in this video.

I have a history with them. Both parents born in Jamaica, both moved to London England where they met in the London club scene. This was the 1960’s. Father was a “Rude Boy” and worked at Harods. He always wore them because as you eloquently put... they were classic and he could wear them with a suit (and as he would say, still look “the business”). When we came along both he and my mother always insisted we went to Clark’s to get our shoes. Fast forwarding...we moved to Canada, and my parents as expats STILL made sure we ONLY WORE CLARK’S especially when they came out with Penny Loafers) 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣Why? They were Jamaican and we seem to have the mentality “buy cheap, buy twice”. It’s so true though. I still to buy them, and I am 50!!! Thank you again for another insightful video. Never knew ALL Jamaicans had such a long history and LOVE for them.

I live in West London of Jamaican parents and I don't C no yute wear no Clarks here! Parents tend to go to Clarks with their children because their staff are trained to fit shoes properly which is especially important with growing feet. Nobody wants to mash up their Pitney foot!
However once you get past the age of about 11, Clarks are seen as old fashioned and no teen of any hue, black, white, yellow wants to be seen dead in them!
As I have got older, I prefer comfort over style and have returned to Clarks for their comfort and durability. You will not get 5 inch stilettos made of fake leather in Clarks!
However, Jamaicans have that way of inventing and reinventing!
And this maybe a much needed boost and resurgence for this English shoe high street store. By the way the socks are Pringles, if you want the real deal, another traditional British company.

I dont think any Clark's are made in England any more because of cost savings. My Clark's history; my sisters' father was one of those Rastaman who always walk inna dress shirt diamond socks, dress pants and a Clark's. I remember going to a tailor in town in the 80's and getting pin stripe pants measured and made for me, to go with my desert boots. Those shoes lasted until my toe buck the front, and even when they were tight, I still wanted to wear them.

    Disputing 1 thing:
The Bronx... that birthed Rap, the Cousing of Reggae Dancehall, are where those Jamaicans in NYC that pushed Clarks, Ballys and Travel Fox came from not Bklyn!
Among all the Jamaican populations in Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx... the Bronx had the deepest and dominate pop of 🇯🇲 FOB.
Brooklyn and Queens have all Caribbean Islands represented... but in the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s... The Northeast Bronx was like 85 - 90% Jamaican, the other 10-15% were Trinidadians and Haitians.
My neighbors on E 229th Street lived across the road from each other back in JA!
Take the 2 or 5 Train from the End... Mount Vernon, the way down to Pelham Pkwy, Gun Hill Road, Boston Road, White Plains Road, Dyre Ave, Nereid Ave, Bronxwood Ave.
Just ask Moody's Records, Kingston Tropical or Champion Bakeries!
The Fashions always come from The Bronx + Uptown... especially footwear!

Yes, Clarks has cut lucrative endorsement deals with a few Jamaican artists over the years which has enabled them to ride the Clarks platform, sell their own product and take care of their families and their business team.
