2021 Trout Stocking: Deep Creek, Schuylkill County

Today, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission stocked several thousand trout into Deep Creek, near Hegins, Schuylkill County. The two truckloads included dozens of trophy-sized Rainbow, Golden Rainbow, and Brown Trout. Trout Season is just a few weeks away, with the statewide Mentored Youth day on March 27th, and the statewide Opening Day of Trout Season on April 3rd. To accommodate an earlier statewide Opening Day, the Fish and Boat Commission started stocking trout two weeks earlier than normal this year and had to reschedule some stockings due to snow and ice. However, stocking is back on schedule. Currently, many streams are running high and muddy due to snow melt and recent rains. Stocked trout will have no trouble adjusting to these conditions, possibly swimming upstream or downstream to seek refuge from strong currents. Anglers age 16 and older need a fishing license and trout permit to participate in the upcoming season.
