Considering selling this beloved Yamaha P-515 to try some other 88-note controllers. Thinking about the Arturia Keylab 88, the Native Instruments S88mk2, or others. Any suggestions? What 88-note controller would you like to see reviewed?
Hi, Please try the following linear velocity curve with your P515 before getting rid of it. I use this curve with Pianoteq and it works really well. Velocity = [0, 18, 107; 1, 2, 127] Use with P515 Default (Medium) Touch) I used to be a piano tuner so I have some idea of how a piano should feel i.e. the psychoacoustic response. Let me know if I can help any further. Warmest regards, Chris
Hi, Pianoteq has re voiced their best pianos with an update (7.5.0). I use the New York Steinway with the following velocity curve with my P515 0/1, 5/2, 107,127 (in Pianoteq) I use this with P515 medium (default) touch setting Give it a try before ditching your P515. I humbly recommend you think twice on changing your keyboard. I was considering part exchanging my P515 for a Roland A88 MK2 but now I'm so glad I didn't go ahead. Warmest regards, Chris
Yes, the best action I’ve experienced on any electric piano and great on board speakers. Sold my two acoustic pianos when I bought the 515 back in October of last year. Thanks for your video and information, keep the music going my friend
Agree. Returned Roland FP-60X with terrible pianos sounds and distorted multiple keys. Now got the P515. Sounds great really. Only bother idea it is in production with no update for 5 (FIVE) years...but design looks great and speakers just perfect to me.
I agree. In my opinion the P515 action is the most realistic. I found the noisy action and the annoying bounce of the Kawai ES920 action to be unacceptable. I found the Roland FP90x to be unnatural because the key action to be too light and does not emulate a real acoustic piano. In the end, by the process of elimination, the P515 was the right choice for me. Thanks for validating my thoughts on the P515.
@@Cre8ivKeyboardsI do not think that Fatar TP/40WOOD or TP/400W (Numa X Piano GT) are better than NWX. There is no MIDI controller with good action and without all the bells and whistles (that I do not need whatsoever) apart of old and heavy VPC-1
I bought a P515 last month, after years of not having access to a piano at home. I love the feel, and the sound and stereo experience is fantastic imo. Still not real piano level. But so much better than so many other digital piano's i have looked at over the last several decades.
@@flintlong2937 I did. Returned Roland FP-60X. P515 in my opinion best pianos sounds, if your target is playing pieces and not Epiano. Epiano great on both boards.
I received my P525 two days ago. I have to agree with you that the key action is the best I've ever played. The piano sounds are really excellent as well.
I own this piano and love it. I agree with everything in this video, including the few negatives. Purchased it for my practice piano as my wife banned me from using our Shimmel grand piano for practice. She, justifiably, did not want to listen to my highly repetitive routines. I did own, briefly, a Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S88. Recognizing that touch is personal, I did not like the S88 feel…at all. It just felt squishy to me. The P515 has a really nice action. Very responsive. Very quick. Enough resistance to build up, or maintain, muscle tone but not excessive. It feels to me like a real piano. Highly recommend. I’m now trying to use it also as a keyboard controller. And I may, and probably will, someday purchase another NI keyboard, probably the S61, as a controller and for the awesome NI sample collections…recognizing that the keyboard action is not the best.
I just bought a P515 for my daughter for her 13th birthday. An upgrade from her 66 key Casio. She's absolutely delighted with it, and it sounds great when she plays. It's also compact enough to fit in her bedroom.
Great voice recording - very professional. Also liked your choice of music for the sound demos - so much nicer than the elevator music offered by many reviewers. I wish I could get my hands on this piano - I returned the ES920x for its terrible speaker sound. FP90X went the same way. I've heard nothing but good about these speakers. . . I would also use it as a controller for soft pianos so we're thinking the same here.
Thank you! I meant to put my studio set up in the description. I’ll do that today. I really debated between this and the FP90 (the X was not available yet I don’t think.) I think either are a good choice as Roland stuff is great. But if you are a pianist, and feel is the most important, followed by speaker sound, the P-515 is your answer.
Hi, Im a Yamaha Grand 6'1" player who has been looking for a while for an affordable Heavy Action digital. I purchased this piano after seeing reviews and can tell you its a great alternative. The sound is very good and the action is excellent. If your looking for a light action then this won't be the one for you a P90 would work well. Great review it was spot on - thanks
I use my p515 for busking with a Bose S1 as an auxiliary speaker. This is all a pianist needs to project great sound in an outdoor setting. I also have a CLP685 at home and the key action on the P515 feels as good or even better to me but we are now talking about personal choice . I would recommend this piano / auxiliary speaker system to any busker with 2100.00 . That's a lot of tips , i know ............
I think this keyboard/setup is worth considering whether or not you are using it to make a living or just fooling around. Playing for the fun. The quality of MIDI sounds is impressive. They dont sound cheap and toy=like at all. Ive heard Bosendorfer grands and the sim herre was pretty close. (nO I've never played one heh). And the Yamaha CFX. These digital piano setups are gret for home use. Lo longer are we forced to bother family practicing. Playing at the wrong times. Bothering neighbours. Being able to put on a good pair of headphones and play as loud as we want any time.
Absolutely. Great keyboard for pro, home, or just fun use. Although for less serious or accomplished pianists, the P-125 or even P-45 might work at a much lower price.
Recently I tried about 10 keyboards (in a store) of this type and roughly this price range including the p125, p515, Roland fp10 / 30 etc. I found all of them have "bouncy keys", meaning they recoil off the bottom of the key bed upon reaching the end of their downward excursion. This makes them all feel very unrealistic when compared to acoustic pianos, yet no reviewer I've seen mentions this. To me the wood composition of the keys matters little when compared to their dynamic properties (in motion). Wondered what your thoughts are ...
Well I liked this action better than any other, but it did not accurately control MIDI data. I have a Kawaii baby grand, so no need for a keyboard version of a piano. I just need a great 88 note midi controller than feels and acts right.
1:45 ----- it certainly does ---- feel solid as a rock. I have the same view --- it really is a pleasure to play those keys. Also - an traditional piano certainly does have key noises too. It's just that we can't 'turn off' the traditional piano sound/audio in order to hear it, which is equivalent to just having the digital piano audio turned right up ..... won't be able to hear the key noises too.
Thank you for making this video. I have always wanted to learn the piano. I wanted something that I can learn and grow into, hopefully as I progress. I think I will pull the trigger on this model. I am currently apartment living or I would go with a full upright. Thanks again and God Bless! Merry Christmas by the way...
I own the Yamaha P515 for more than a year now. As a pianist for me it has the best keybed and the best pianosound, the CFX sound is amazing! BUT: it is a known fact that using it as a midicontroler the midi response is not great. It is not designed for that use. It works but there are keyboards that respond better with vst’s.
Love the P515 for learning piano. I practiced on a P105 for 7 years and the action felt imprecise and unrealistic compared to a real Yamaha piano. The P105 sound was not great, always needed to use the P105 solely as a midi keyboard to Cubase Grand3 or equivalent for a realistic piano sound. In stark contrast, love the P515 built in Yamaha and Bosendorfer sounds. And the P515 action feels so much more like a Yamaha grand. It is a joy to play. I get twice as much daily practice time on the P515 without feeling burned out, compared to the P105.
I was on about 4 different waiting lists to get this keyboard .... I landed 2 ... Gave one to a dear relative , while keeping one for me ... I DO NOT REGRET WAITING ... This is one of the MOST AMAZING FANTASTIC Piano-istic Feeling Electronic Keyboard I ever had or even played this far 🙏🏽 ... and for the price .. (about $1500-$1600 ) For what I got it for mainly (PIANO ... and sone Rhodes ) it Fully Fulfills my expectation The P515 is not a major midi controller .. like to trigger synths and other sounds .. though it can trigger ... But Ti use to trigger Piano & Rhodes this one is great .. (But you can midi a decent soft touch midi keyboard to the midi input of the P515 and add in those other MIDI Controller accesses that way .) But for an acoustic piank feel and response .. in an electronic situation ... the P515 has that FEEL of playing an acoustic grand piano .. in such a compact size keyboard (The best thing of course would have to be a Yamaha Grand Touch ... and/or Silent Piano with actual grand piano action and hammers ... everything minus the strings ... etc... But it would not be Portable .... like the P series ... PORTABLE ) The P515 , to me , is the closes to a ‘Grand Touch’ in a PORTABLE Keyboard ... 🙏🏽🎹
Agreed. I am thinking of selling mine for now to test out some other 88-Note keyboards for the channel (namely the NI S88 and the Arturia 88.) But I know I will never find touch like this, but MIDI control of piano and EP (and having DAW control from the keyboard) is important.
Try this linear velocity curve with your P515... x = 0 y = 2 to x = 114 y = 127 I have a white P515 and use the above curve with Pianoteq and it is very nice to play. Thank you for your video and enjoy your new keys, Warmest regards, Chris
Thanks for your positive review. I like my p515 for practicing piano literature with the binaural sampling via headphones. I’m looking to use it as a midi controller as well and appreciate your review!
Even though I LOVED my P-515 and the amazing keybed, I had to sell it and buy more of a MIDI controller like the MAudio Hammer 88 Pro to have more control of computer piano sounds. The 515 was just not accurate enough.
I really wish someone would demonstrate the other voices, of which there are 480 XG sounds. I can see there are guitars and saxophones etc yet nobody has put these on video to give some idea of their quality.
It was a great upgrade for me when I when from a P95 to a P125 and then a P515. But beware the P-515 is WAYYY heavier to carry than the lower P series.
A great honest informative review, I've owned a P45 with their GHS action and vowed not to buy a Yamaha product again due to "key clunk/rattle" but I'll Seriously consider the P515. Have you noticed any difference in keybed noise the longer you've owned the device or has it remained about the same? Also enjoyed the piece you played at the 4:25 mark on the video, if you can remember what key was this written in?
Hi, thanks so much for the review. I purchased my p515 in January 2023 and am trying without much success, to link it to the smart pianist app on a new 9th generation ipad. I have a question in this respect. Have purchased the various cables etc as referred to in the manual which either do not 'fit' or 'incompatible ' displays on the piano. I can see from your video that your cable is fixed from the rear of the piano to your device, whereas I'm attaching from the usb port on top left. If you can give me any advice I would be so very grateful. Thanks in advance, Jane, UK.
Hello, -Is the touch too lighter than acoustic grand pianos? -Is It more difficult to play advanced classical music on acoustic grand pianos if practiced it on this p515 only? -Does it have hammers and long wooden keys? -How would you compare it with the Casio GP 510 and Yamaha YDP 165 in order to be suitable to study advanced classical music? Thanks
Good video, I was looking after it as a midi controller, it does not have aftertouch which probabily helps me playing my viscount legend exp organ sound module, goodbye.
Yes. Keep looking. The reason I sold it was because I didn't feel it was accurate as a MIDI controller. Still working to solve this and find an action I like as much as this that controls MIDI well. Keep watching, I think I am almost there!
Great review Eric! Recently just purchased this after renting one a few times. I, personally, love the keyed and the rig in general. I only have one complaint and wanted to know if you had the same issue. When using the audio interface feature (so that I could play my MainStage setup through the speakers for ease of practicing), I noticed some serious buzz/borderline distortion when having the volume up on the speakers at 40% or beyond. I checked with headphones to make sure it wasn't my computer settings. Did you encounter this when using it as well? Quite apparent on the Keyscape patches. Thanks for any insight!
Wonderful review. It seems that it's basically a p125 with better action. But then again, if one doesn't prefer a sturdy action, it's not even that. Also, the black keys are all plastic.
It’s a P-125 with better action, more sounds, and better speakers. Not sure about the black keys. They have a wood grain finish on them and have a texture on the top (not sure why.) The P-125 isn’t bad at all if you are on a budget.
@@Cre8ivKeyboards Thank you for your reply. I'm not on a budget, for me it's about where that extra $1000 goes. I find that no built in speakers do the sound justice, so it's either headphones or external speakers anyway. A Steinway has a very lively and fairly light action - lighter than the p515. What's better is all preference, I guess. The black keys ARE plastic - the texture is overdone, I think, to give the impression it's wood 😉
Question: When does the keys of an 88 digital piano gonna last before it gets clunky? i had an mx88 before and the keys lasted for a year and a half, what do you do to avoid that kind of problem? TIA PEACE AND GOD BKESS US ALL!
-Is the touch too lighter than acoustic grand pianos? -Is It more difficult to play advanced classical music on acoustic grand pianos if practiced on this p515 only? -Does it have hammers and long wooden keys? -How would you compare it with the Casio GP 510 and Yamaha YDP 165 in order to be suitable to study advanced classical music?
The 515 is not light at all, that's why I loved it! I think the transition from the P515 to piano would be mostly smooth. They have similar feels. Yes, hammers and nice long keys! WAY adcanbced from any Casio and the YDP series. Real wood keys like a piano. If you buy see my friends at Sweetwater and get it here at a great price! sweetwater.sjv.io/jr57ee
@@Cre8ivKeyboards the Casio GP 510 has long wooden keys with the same wood of the Bechstein acoustic grand pianos. Is there a picture of the action inside? I can't find it. The link it doesn't work on my phone. Anyway I was talking about the suitability for studying advanced classical music. I don't understand how it can be more advanced than the Casio GP 510. Are you advanced classical music player? This P515 doesn't even come with the pedal, I don't know
I'm a devoted Yamaha P-series player. I like my P-105 for many reasons but the keys are a bit noisy these days. Maybe it's getting worse?? I hear plastic on plastic and it's annoying. If the 515 was quieter, I would think about switching for that reason alone but I've always wondered if the wood (that you can see from the side when a key is pressed down) is really quieter or is is just a gimmick..... like, oh look... there's wood under the plastic "shell." That alone, would not make a lot of difference. So, my question is, in your opinion, are the keys REALLY more like an acoustic piano or is the wood (that can be seen) just a sales gimmick?
Yep, me too. P-95, P125, and now P-515. It's pretty quiet. Definitely quieter than my P-125 and one of the least "chunky" 88 note boards Ive played. If you turned off the hammers, real pianos are pretty noisy too ;)
Who knows they may decide to put the NWX on a DGX keyboard! They already have it also on the CP-88 and YC-88 (although they both cost more than the P-515.)
I have a DGX_670, and have owned several acoustic grands. The action on the DGX-670 is perfectly acceptable. You don't need to be concerned with it all. By the way if you add the Pianoteq Hamburg Steinway voice to the DGX's CFX voice, you will have one of the best sounding digital pianos on the planet.
@@JoeLinux2000 Never said the key action was bad on the 670, many reviewers do complain a bit that it could be better, heck even after getting the feel between my 670 and my teacher's Casio, teacher's action feels slightly more "real" 👍 That being said, the 670 is a great investment for a serious beginner. Still trying to learn how to add voices, if you have some instructions or a useful link, will appreciate it. 🥺
@@JoeLinux2000 On a small but related note, going to hold back until I get better at piano before investing on the Pianoteq software and voices, still learning and already went through the "Why I had this damn idea to learn piano" phase 🤣 So as soon as I get better, will consider the extra voices. 👍
how are you attaching midi?? I use my p255 as midi controller (a korg nanoKontrol2 for sliders, volume, mod) and it is attached via an external usb midi interface (roland/cakewalk UM-1g) seems to work extremely well.. much better than the midi controlers I own, great response across the spectrum......
Attaching from the MIDI port in the back to my computer. I hardly ever use MIDI cables anymore. AND remember the USB works as both a MIDI AND Audio interface on the P-515!
I can't hook up my subwoofer, read the manual and no sound out of it??i bought the complete bundle P515. Is something on the piano supposed to be turned off?
Will it make any much difference having a p-125 to use as midi controller, considering that the p-125 has a double sensor instead of a triple sensor that is present on the p-515? Thank you and kudos for the excellent and detailed video!
Thank you. By any chance, do you (or anyone reading) know how this keyboard compare with the Korg 01/w ProX in terms of keyboard. Since I had the latter (which I liked) and thinking of a more modern replacement I was wondering how this would compare. Thank you!
@@Cre8ivKeyboards Thank you. The Korg 01w proX has plastic key (weighted), but among the the keyboards I could try at the time, it immediately seemed to be on a completely different level. I still have it and love it. Certainly, being more interested in classical style music I'd like to have something closer to a grand piano action (will probably remain a dream :-) )
One question: Do the orchestral string voices sustain with the sustain pedal on the 515 because they don't on the DGX-670? People speak highly of the Roland MIDI controller.
Hi there, great demo. I have just returned my FP90X because of the piano sounding horrible and a few notes out of tune, plus a few adjacent keys played the same note.Loved the feel of it.The P515 is my next option. One question for you. Can you use the Yamaha FC-7 Expresion pedal with the P515 and if you are there any settings you have to change. Thanks for any info if you could.
Hello, Could you comment on the mx88 and the p515? I'm in the market for a piano that sounds like a grand and have come across these 2 models, but cannot seem to find a direct comparison.
I just tried these comparisons today. I have to say I felt the Nord Grand was clunky, loose and loud (when the sound was low or off) compared to the P515. The Yamaha seemed to have a tighter tolerance for the keys. I was really surprised by this, considering the price difference. I know Nord sounds great, but the keybed wasn't as I expected on the Nord Grand. I'm buying the P515.
Does the P515 have a Bluetooth transmitter to transmit sound to Bluetooth enabled hearing aids. What latency is there? < 5 ms ? Should a Bluetooth transmitter possibly be connected to the headphone output of the P515 : aptx with Bluetooth version 5.2 ?
I have a question regarding this piano: I have the a P-125 as low-cost spare piano, but one thing I don't like is when using a layer (like the strings), the layered sound does not sustain with the pedal. Once you lift off the keys, regardless of if you have the pedal depressed, they just fade out. This is the first digital piano I've played in which the layered sounded doesn't sustain. Does this piano do the same? Or does it sustain layers with the pedal?
And does the settings with the action feature in functions affect plug-in sounds &/or other external midis sound sources as well as it’s internal sounds ? Like if setting actions to soft or hard in functions respond and affect the action triggering external sound sources also (like plug-in &/or other midi keyboards or sound sources sounds ... etc...)?
@@Cre8ivKeyboards Thanks for the reply also how does the P515's action compare to the P200 or P250, that is if you've had experience with those instruments. The general consensus is that they are very heavy.
I recommend either Audio Technica or Sennheiser. Either have great starter, mid-level, or high level price points. Here are some links: sweetwater.sjv.io/eKPMjj or www.sweetwater.com/store/search?s=sennheiser%20headphones
My old 300 $ casio 6x keys died. I wanna now spend on 88keys upto 2500usd if need be. What do u think of Roland 90x vs Yam 515. Piano sound without external vst is very very very imp to me.
They are both great. I am a fan of Roland and Yamaha. I may buy a Roland RD-88 next because it is just fun to play. The 90x is the cream of their digital piano crop. The 515 is a delight to play. Both have great sounds. Play both if you can at a store. For sounds see my video on 515, or someone else’s (that recorded video well) on the Roland. You’ll be happy with either I’d say.
I have a P-515 as well and your CFX sounds very crisp and clear. What cables and interface are you using at 3:47? I currently use the MIDI to audio feature but it sounds a little quiet and muffled.
I’ll have to go back to the original video edit to see. I believe I used stereo 1/4 inch into my MAudio 192|6 Interface into Logic for the stereo piano feed.
I found out that P-515 works better with PC than Mac when used as a MIDI controller. You can also use external Digital Audio Controller such as Scarlett Solo or similar
Hi. Just got my p515. It s amazing. Can you tell me how i find rythme in the app. I think I found it yesterday but it just disapears. Cannot find it now.
Good question. I haven’t really looked at the CLP keyboards, as I usually am looking at more Pro use keyboards, But many of the Clavinovas use the same action (or something like it) as the P515. The CLPs are generally more bound as a home keyboard in a piano chassis design, where the P515 is more versatile as a stage keyboard by its design. SO just depends on your needs. But P515 will also be MUCH cheaper.
@@Cre8ivKeyboards Thank you so much for the suggestion! You are right. I think I am getting the P515. The only problem is, I can't get my hands on one nowadays. T-T (luckily, light bulbs still don't need cpu chips)
Hello! Granulation to your new keyboard. My question is about the keyboard noise. Once I tried a Casio cdp100 it was long ago and was maybe the cheapest portable Casio. The action was so loud that it was louder than the music especially under classical pieces for instance Chopin's grand scherzo. It made music something u can't enjoy. Through this video I can't hear the noises u showed while it was turned off. I have now a very cheap Russian upright piano but I don't like it's sound. The keys has no noises of course)) even it's had the music is louder and I cant hear it. I have no experiences with digital pianos. I don't have enough money for a better acoustic piano. Would u recommend p515 to me? ? I would practise classical music like etudes and grand pieces.
Yes, this would be a terrific keyboard for classical music. This is the high end model. Also see our review for the P-125. Also a good keyboard and cheaper, but certainly not as study a build like a piano as the P-515. I think the key bed sound is certainly acceptable.
It is great, but not as "controller" as something like the NI S-88. But you can adjust that inside most plug-ins a little. of course the P-515 was meant to be a at home keyboard, not a controller for plug-ins.
Great job! Thanks for sharing. I do have a couple questions if you don't mind. I apologize in advance if this gets too long. First of all, have you played the CP 88 or the YC 88? If so, how would you compare the action to the P 515? Also, on the P 515 I see that the XG section has a sample of an E. Grand Piano. Although I would bet it's not perfect, how does it really sound? Both the YC/CP have a electric grand that's not too bad. While I still have time, I'm trying to decide whether to keep the Y C 88 or send it back and get the P 515. Thanks in advance for any insight!
I found both the YC88 and the CP88 recently at a Guitar Center. The action is exactly the same as the P-515. it’s the NWX action. The P-515 is going to have the speakers, and similar sounds really to the others, but the others are more meant for stage use where the P-515 is definitely more focused on being a home piano. It’s not bad for stage though, and is cheaper.
@@Cre8ivKeyboards Thanks so very much for your help. I really appreciate you taking the time and checking! It really helps with my decision so your input is very valuable to me. Having recently moved, I have found there are very few music stores. Most of which have zero keyboards. And to think we had three G.C.'s with in an hour radius from our old house. LOL Thanks again!
Thanks so funny you should say that! My next video is a Music Store Keyboard Hunt where I am looking specifically for 88-note keyboards out there. Don’t recall seeing the DGX, but may go back if someone has them. I visited 6 stores. Video should be out this weekend. A lot of editing!
Have you played or consider the Kawai MP11SE or VPC1? I wonder how they compare to P515. Also when compare to the Komplete Control keyboard to P515, is there much difference in DAW usability? I have Komplete Control S88 MK2 but I am not impressed with the quality of the Fatar keybed. Some of the keys are making rattling noise and one of the key is stuck won't recover.
I have not played the Kawaii pianos, but would love to. I feared the S88 (and Arturia as well) keyboards would not be as solid as the P515. As an experiment for the channel I am considering selling my P515 and trying out the S88, Arturia 88, and other 88-note controllers. But I am so afraid I will miss the action of the P515. I have the NI S61 and feel the key Ed is subpar but playable. I’ll be doing a review on it soon. But the useability for DAW and synth controls is SO useful on the S61.
Bruh, the worst review Ive ever seen. Showing the piano sounds whilst its CONNECTED to your PC makes no sense, people wanna see the real sound with a mic, not the sample sound on the PC...
@@Cre8ivKeyboards Yes using a microphone to capture the sound along with room effects while while using your Beats headphone through UA-cam is the way to go!
This was the worst digital piano I've ever bought and I returned it in a week. I am glad you found your dream keys tho but from this videos it reminds me of how ugly and un inspiring the sounds are.
Hey I get it, action is going to be different for everyone. What did you settle on? Find what you were looking for? Actually, I don’t disagree about the sounds. I find them just OK (compared with the software pianos I use from Keyscape and Ivory, etc.) I just wish I could find this action on an 88-note controller.
I returned it and got Grandstage 88 instead it's not perfect still but sound wise it's much better. My ideal sound and touch would be Nord piano it's the closest to my real grand piano.
Considering selling this beloved Yamaha P-515 to try some other 88-note controllers. Thinking about the Arturia Keylab 88, the Native Instruments S88mk2, or others. Any suggestions? What 88-note controller would you like to see reviewed?

Yes, the best action I’ve experienced on any electric piano and great on board speakers. Sold my two acoustic pianos when I bought the 515 back in October of last year. Thanks for your video and information, keep the music going my friend
Thanks for watching!
Agree. Returned Roland FP-60X with terrible pianos sounds and distorted multiple keys. Now got the P515. Sounds great really.
Only bother idea it is in production with no update for 5 (FIVE) years...but design looks great and speakers just perfect to me.
I returned Roland FP-90X to get P-515. Very happy with the action and piano sounds.
I’m going to sell my acoustic too and go to this. Tried it against acoustic pianos in the store and only the $40,000 baby grand sounded better.
Yep! I miss it! Trying the wooden keys of the StudioLogic Grand next.
My thoughts exactly. I had FP-90X and tested ES920 for quite a long time.
Thanks for sharing! Glad you are playing again at home!
Do you like it better than Rolands you have tried?
@@flintlong2937 I did. Returned Roland FP-60X. P515 in my opinion best pianos sounds,
if your target is playing pieces and not Epiano. Epiano great on both boards.
I bought mine yesterday and I appreciate reviews like yours to confirm that I made the right decision!
Hope you enjoy it!
I received my P525 two days ago. I have to agree with you that the key action is the best I've ever played. The piano sounds are really excellent as well.
Nice!
Very helpful. I'm one more step closer to the P-515. Thank you!
Yes the P515 plays beautifully but doesn't always control MIDI the best. Highly recommend the S61 as a companion though!
I just bought a P515 for my daughter for her 13th birthday. An upgrade from her 66 key Casio. She's absolutely delighted with it, and it sounds great when she plays. It's also compact enough to fit in her bedroom.
Very nice! That keybed is the best!
If you hold function button and press "others", you can access 480 more voices without the app
This was an absolute revelation thank you so much
Mind blown. Thank you.
Excellent. Straight to the point, showed each sound perfectly, and explained well.
Thanks very much!
ES920 doesn't have terrible speakers. I don't know what was wrong with your one if you felt it was that bad.
Thanks for the great and comprehensive review.
My pleasure!
Correct. Nice and heavy. I wish it was more responsive as a MIDI controller. But ti play...heaven!
Must be rough to haul around! It's a heavy sucker!
@@Cre8ivKeyboards I try and get a passerby to help me lift it from the back of my pickup onto my wheeled keyboard stand . That works 99% of the time
I think this keyboard/setup is worth considering whether or not you are using it to make a living or just fooling around.
Certain plugins have those key noises, and pedal noise.
If it's solely for piano playing, you will love it!
Couldn't agree more! The ONLY reason I sold it.
I love the action for sure! I had a P95 and P125 before it and it absolutely blew them away.
(about $1500-$1600 )
For what I got it for mainly (PIANO ... and sone Rhodes ) it Fully Fulfills my expectation
The P515 is not a major midi controller .. like to trigger synths and other sounds .. though it can trigger ... But Ti use to trigger Piano & Rhodes this one is great ..
(But you can midi a decent soft touch midi keyboard to the midi input of the P515 and add in those other MIDI Controller accesses that way .)
But for an acoustic piank feel and response .. in an electronic situation ... the P515 has that FEEL of playing an acoustic grand piano .. in such a compact size keyboard
(The best thing of course would have to be a Yamaha Grand Touch ... and/or Silent Piano with actual grand piano action and hammers ... everything minus the strings ... etc... But it would not be Portable .... like the P series ... PORTABLE )
The P515 , to me , is the closes to a ‘Grand Touch’ in a PORTABLE Keyboard ... 🙏🏽🎹
Agreed. I am thinking of selling mine for now to test out some other 88-Note keyboards for the channel (namely the NI S88 and the Arturia 88.) But I know I will never find touch like this, but MIDI control of piano and EP (and having DAW control from the keyboard) is important.
Try this linear velocity curve with your P515...
x = 0 y = 2 to x = 114 y = 127
I have a white P515 and use the above curve with Pianoteq and it is very nice to play.
Thank you for your video and enjoy your new keys,
Warmest regards,
Chris
Thanks I will try this!

They are fine sounds but that would be a long video! LOL!
Id love that too
Congratulazioni for video !!! Do you prefer P515 or Roland fp 90x ? Thank you from Sicily
Oh they are both good. I would have to play the 90 more, but the P-15 was butter. Will also depend on if you like the Yamaha or Roland sounds better.

Only thing i care is action as i use vst. Wonder if i should buy used without ever trying. I currently have p105
The 515 is a completely different beast than the 45 or even the 125.
You should be able to use it with Bluetooth no? I just used a standard USB cable and the Apple USB to Lightning adapter.
Really good playing. Thk u

-Is the touch too lighter than acoustic grand pianos?
-Is It more difficult to play advanced classical music on acoustic grand pianos if practiced it on this p515 only?
-Does it have hammers and long wooden keys?
-How would you compare it with the Casio GP 510 and Yamaha YDP 165 in order to be suitable to study advanced classical music?

It's the best piano I think
Agreed!
You still digging the p 515 ? Very much considering it !
I sold it and miss it, but just needed better MIDI control on piano plugins.
I don’t think so although to be fair I usually just worked through my audio interface.
Bought the p515 last saturday.... what heavy action?? My kawai mp 11se action is not any lighter....
What song starts at 4:25? Incredible sounding.
Just playing around ;) QuietSoulPiano.com

When does the keys of an 88 digital piano gonna last before it gets clunky? i had an mx88 before and the keys lasted for a year and a half, what do you do to avoid that kind of problem?

The 515 is not light at all, that's why I loved it!
I think the transition from the P515 to piano would be mostly smooth. They have similar feels.
Yes, hammers and nice long keys!
WAY adcanbced from any Casio and the YDP series. Real wood keys like a piano.

If you turned off the hammers, real pianos are pretty noisy too ;)
Learning to play piano here atm, learning on a dgx-670, wish the 670 had the 515 keys. 😁
Ahh, well, maybe next dxg release.
@@JoeLinux2000 Never said the key action was bad on the 670, many reviewers do complain a bit that it could be better, heck even after getting the feel between my 670 and my teacher's Casio, teacher's action feels slightly more "real" 👍
That being said, the 670 is a great investment for a serious beginner.
Still trying to learn how to add voices, if you have some instructions or a useful link, will appreciate it. 🥺
@@JoeLinux2000 On a small but related note, going to hold back until I get better at piano before investing on the Pianoteq software and voices, still learning and already went through the "Why I had this damn idea to learn piano" phase 🤣
So as soon as I get better, will consider the extra voices. 👍
how are you attaching midi?? I use my p255 as midi controller (a korg nanoKontrol2 for sliders, volume, mod) and it is attached via an external usb midi interface (roland/cakewalk UM-1g) seems to work extremely well.. much better than the midi controlers I own, great response across the spectrum......
Attaching from the MIDI port in the back to my computer. I hardly ever use MIDI cables anymore. AND remember the USB works as both a MIDI AND Audio interface on the P-515!
Thanx, Eric🌹🌹🌹

please do vdo show all rythms and how is it compare to yamaha dgx 670? thanks.
The rhythms are very pedestrian in my estimation.
I can't hook up my subwoofer, read the manual and no sound out of it??i bought the complete bundle P515.
Is something on the piano supposed to be turned off?
I would hook up any speaker with the piano off. But not sure as I never had the sub woofer option.
Will it make any much difference having a p-125 to use as midi controller, considering that the p-125 has a double sensor instead of a triple sensor that is present on the p-515? Thank you and kudos for the excellent and detailed video!
To be honest I don't think either is an accurate MIDI controller for computer. They are meant to be stage pianos.
Thank you. By any chance, do you (or anyone reading) know how this keyboard compare with the Korg 01/w ProX in terms of keyboard. Since I had the latter (which I liked) and thinking of a more modern replacement I was wondering how this would compare. Thank you!
I do not. Was this an 88 note keyboard and did it have wooden keys?
@@Cre8ivKeyboards Thank you. The Korg 01w proX has plastic key (weighted), but among the the keyboards I could try at the time, it immediately seemed to be on a completely different level. I still have it and love it. Certainly, being more interested in classical style music I'd like to have something closer to a grand piano action (will probably remain a dream :-) )
One question: Do the orchestral string voices sustain with the sustain pedal on the 515 because they don't on the DGX-670? People speak highly of the Roland MIDI controller.
No they do not. And it is annoying. Great question.
Hi there, great demo. I have just returned my FP90X because of the piano sounding horrible and a few notes out of tune, plus a few adjacent keys played the same note.Loved the feel of it.The P515 is my next option. I believe you can but would check the Yamaha site. Do you mean controls for the pedal?
I did the same! 😊
I like the action on the CP88 and i never played the P515. Are the actions the same on both?
Yes, exactly the same.
The action is different. CP action does not have escapement
Hello,
Could you comment on the mx88 and the p515? I'm in the market for a piano that sounds like a grand and have come across these 2 models, but cannot seem to find a direct comparison.
I would also like a comparison of the keybeds and feel between the mx88 and the P515. Thank you.
No comparison. The MX88 feels like the MODX88 and others and are similar to the P-125, where the P-515 is unmatched in my opinion.
Do all 3 pedals behave in a traditional way one would expect coming from an acoustic box?
I do not have the 3 pedal unit. You have to buy the Yamaha stand with the 3 pedals.
Have you tried outputting keyscape into the aux in in the keyboard? I've been trying to find some video doing this but none out there.
Hi Carlos, I have the same question regarding Keyscape and aux in in the keyboard. Did you manage to find out?
Via MIDI you cna hear Keyscape (and all your computer sounds through the piano speakers.)
I wonder how the action on this piano compares to the Nord Grand.
I bet they are comparable, but imagine the Nord to be a little looser.
No idea about hearing aids but I know the Bluetooth is pretty good in it.
I am afraid I don’t remember, but seem to think it does the same thing.
I actually use that to my advantage - I can sustain the piano tone but let the strings fade out at the end of a song, for example.
And does the settings with the action feature in functions affect plug-in sounds &/or other external midis sound sources as well as it’s internal sounds ?
Like if setting actions to soft or hard in functions respond and affect the action triggering external sound sources also (like plug-in &/or other midi keyboards or sound sources sounds ... etc...)?
I have not seen that it does. I have to change the velocity settings in the programs I'm using (like Keyscape.)
How is the sound sampling when playing very nuanced pianissimo?
Very good.
Could I run Smart Pianist app with Android OS either?
I would think so!
On a scale of 1 to 10 how much heavier is the action here compared to a KX88's action? By the way, this is a beautiful looking board.
It's different. The KX88 was similar but probably a tad lighter. I've had both, and loved them!
@@Cre8ivKeyboards Thanks for the reply also how does the P515's action compare to the P200 or P250, that is if you've had experience with those instruments. The general consensus is that they are very heavy.
Is there a way to edit like some of the sounds, like the strings samples, where they will not fade out so quick when you’re using the pedal?
Not really. You need Keyscape for something like that.
How do you think the p-515 compares to the kawai es920?
Haven’t played the Kawaii but know some who swear buy it.
I heard there was a problem with the G6 key... Is it true?

I have a P-515 as well and your CFX sounds very crisp and clear. What cables and interface are you using at 3:47? I currently use the MIDI to audio feature but it sounds a little quiet and muffled.
I’ll have to go back to the original video edit to see. I believe I used stereo 1/4 inch into my MAudio 192|6 Interface into Logic for the stereo piano feed.

Hello Cre8iv, I have a P125 and thinking about getting a P515 or CLP725. Which one do you think is better? How about this vs CLP745? Thank you!
Sir what is the name of app?
It’s called “Smart Pianist” and you’ll find it on the App Store on Apple. Does anyone know if they also make it for Android?
@@Cre8ivKeyboards thanks
As far as it’s piano like feel , touch & action , is it as great triggering plug ins as it is playing it’s own built in sounds ?
It is great, but not as "controller" as something like the NI S-88. But you can adjust that inside most plug-ins a little. of course the P-515 was meant to be a at home keyboard, not a controller for plug-ins.
Great job! Thanks for sharing.
I do have a couple questions if you don't mind. I apologize in advance if this gets too long. First of all, have you played the CP 88 or the YC 88? If so, how would you compare the action to the P 515? Also, on the P 515 I see that the XG
section has a sample of an E. Grand Piano. Although I would bet it's not perfect, how does it really sound? Both the YC/CP have a electric grand that's not too bad.
While I still have time, I'm trying to decide whether to keep the Y C 88 or send it back and get the
@@Cre8ivKeyboardsIt is not NWX - it does not have escapement
Everyone speaks very highly of the MP11SE

P515 for 1600 dollar or Roland fp60 x for 1200 dollars? 🙃😇
1600 seems high for 515 I'm 2024.

Bruh, the worst review Ive ever seen. Showing the piano sounds whilst its CONNECTED to your PC makes no sense, people wanna see the real sound with a mic, not the sample sound on the PC...
Sorry will try and do better next time.
There you wrote it!
Yeah Nords are good…but just so…red. And pricey. But many of my Nashville keyboard guys use them exclusively.
That sounds like a toy and costs like a real piano.
LOL, it's all in the ears of the beholder I guess.
How voices are saved when you edit them. Thank you
I didn't do much if any editing with this. It's not known as an editable keyboard as these are more set presets.
