I have everything in my possession to build an empire yet I do nothing. Necessity is the mother of all inventions. This boy of 14 built a windmill by reading a book and harvesting materials from a junk yard and saved his village from famine. He literally brought light to his world by generating electricity from the windmill.
It occurred to me, not for the first ti when watching the movie, that we have created a world in which one human being has a monetary 'worth' of around two hundred billion dollars, and as recently as this (and still today) we have people suffering for the want of a simple windmill. Humans- amazing creatures, with hearts on both ends of the spectrum of selfish and teeny, and loving and huge. What a great mind this gentle man has.
I'm inclined to agree with you, about necessity is the mother of invention. This movie reminds me a lot of my childhood. Even though we had more than Thomas, we were still just above poverty. But as kids we would take our adventurous and creative minds outside and made our fun, and found ways to put money in our pockets like going to store for neighbors for 25cents, which bought our snacks. And catch a June bug and tie a thread to his leg and fly him like a airplane. That was big fun to us. Or catch lighting bugs at night, and made our glow in dark shirts with their glow ends.[Sorry Animal Rights, but that was big fun to us]. And one science project that blew my mind was 2styrofoam cups, a long thread, and 2buttons, and we created a telephone where I could talk to my friend, across the street, on his porch. I wish kids nowadays would put their phone down for a few minutes and try a few of those science projects, and feel the joy it brings. That's why I agreed with your comment, because I know for sure if our pockets had been packed with wealth, there is no way we would have tried any of these things. That's why I'm truly thankful for my childhood, for the lessons, people, and experiences it brought me.
It's 2024 and I am here to tell you how inspired I am after watching the movie on Netflix. You made a significant impact on people Sir William. Hats off to you Sir.
Exactly, noticed the same. The first TED talk he did a few years ago he basically answered yes. The interview was short because of his english limitations. Now his english has improved substantially, dramatically. This boy is a brilliant mind indeed.

I just watched the movie and i loved it i am soo happy that God created this young man with the passion, wit and ability to understand the science of electricity. My God that was a wonderful and inspirational story.
A very inspiring young man; WK is walking evidence that if there is a Will, there is a Way. So true; when one does "strange" things, we all say, he's crazy, eccentric or mad. But seriously, these "crazy" ones have changed the world. I liken WK's "madness" to when Noah was building the ark...the "mad" ones were the only ones that survived. Thank you William, you saved a whole generation of Malawians and truly a whole lot more worldwide. May God continue to bless you in your endeavors.
18:10-43 "When your jacket get fire, you don't wait for somebody to put it off because you are the one who can start feeling the fire and you are the one who can start putting off the fire (...) if you are in trouble, you are the one who can know your troubles and you are the one who can start trying to find the solution to get out of that trouble and other people might see that you are in trouble and they can come along to help you to pull off from the trouble that you are in"...Great advice to all women out there, don't ever let people tell you can't do it because it's portrayed as men's job.

Amazing the sacrifices people of some countries are forced to endure. This young man decided to not become a victim of his dire circumstance but a victor and harnessed the power of the wind. I will see the movie and have just ordered the book!

The boy who harnessed the wind. What a mind blowing movie. I so loved it. What a boy. I pray I'd have a son of such bravery, intelligence and integrity someday. I had to dick this far just because of the movie, to see who really this boy was.
