- Skid plates are strips of Aramid felt applied to the bow and stern stems of a canoe. They add extra protection to these areas which tend to get the most wear and tear. Skid plate kits can be purchased form your nearest Nova Craft Canoe dealer or online at out retail store site:

I ordered one of your kits. The instructions that came with my resin said to add half of the 11 ml hardener tube, which is 5.5 ml, and watch this video. This video says 4.5ml. Which is it? When I followed the instructions in this video, my skid plates didn't harden up until they sat overnight. I hope they hardened up sufficiently, because they're not cheap, and would be a real mess to have to redo.
The final surface it's not gloss finished....if use an additional resin is it possible to have a nice smooth surface (eg "liquid glass")???

Iv one of your green prospector 15 canoes and want to fit a full length skid plate as between me and the Scottish Highlands, it's getting some abuse😁
Felted aramid fibre, AKA Kevlar felt. If the canoe is made from a composite material you can tint the resin with the gelcoat that matches your canoe. We don't recommend tinting the epoxy used to install skid plates on ABS plastic hulls (Royalex or Royalex Lite).
where and what product we can use to cover the skid plate ?
I'm sanding, filling and painting my whole canoe and want to install the skid plate kit as well. My question: am I able to paint over the applied skid plate when I do the paint job? Or should I complete my restoration and add the plates similar to the method in this video?
I'd recommend doing it after the rest of the work.

Hey there - We're using vinylester resin tinted with gelcoat in this video.
Will this work on hobie kayak
It's not recommended for plastic hulls. Try to find a product called KeelEazy for your Hobie.

How did you color the epoxy?
The resin used in this video is not epoxy. It's vinylester that we tint using gelcoat.
Why don't you just make canoes that come with skid plates?
Hello, Factory installed skid plates are available as an option.
