  • One of the cleanest cars I've had the pleasure to work on.

Very cool m8. I'm jealous. Quite a specimen.

Thanks. Wasn't 100% sure what it'd be like until I got to it. It had a BAD fuel leak, but that was easily remedied. Still desperately needs a tune up, though. I'm going to run the date code on the block tomorrow.

Still have the original engine? Its cylinder heads are sought-after because they have the potential to make more power than the later “High Efficiency” heads. You could probably get good money for them.
I always have mixed feelings about these swaps. It feels wrong, but I know the alternative is to bury the whole car, so I applaud you for keeping this one one the road, even if its heart isn’t original.

The original engine was long gone when it came to me. It was swapped back in the '80s; the date code on the engine is a '76 or '79, so it was new when the car was built. There's an intact EGR system and the vehicle is California compliant per the tag.
I always view swaps as a last resort for a car; like my Rolls-Royce, but this is one of the few I don't mind. It keeps the same GM transmission and the power to weight as well as the output of the car are all relatively unchanged. It doesn't change the feel of the car too much; apart from the loss of the glorious engine note, and it's always preferable to save a car than to scrap it.

A proper garage/barn is the dream and a long-term goal. I'd love to turn this hobby into a career.
