My dad had an apiary. I think your bees have made another queen and divided their hive. Some got confused and went back to the "old " hive and were killed by the old hive members. The bees will remove the dead so no problem with that.❤ Do not dump the new swarm into the old hive, whatever you do! I just watched more. Next time this happens make certain to put the new queen into a small screened box and into your new hive box, then they'll enter the new hive on their own. Let the queen out of course after they've settled into the new hive.
Oh my gosh 😮. Watching you on a ladder cutting the branch full of a bee hive .. girl - you’re sooo brave ❤ I hope they figure out where they are supposed to be …. 🙏😘❤️
I live on my sister's bee farm. It is normal to loose a percentage of bees a year no matter how good you take care of them. There is also a mystery disease that kills them, no one knows why.
😂 Your explanation was so funny, and so spot on! "Our bees are like, 'our home is full, we've got too many children, and we're gonna go and buy a bigger house." Plus, Phil giggling at you!! Oh funny! I did try to warn you two that bee-keeping is absolutely a gamble. They are wildly unpredictable! Your chickens might not eat the dead bees, but your pigs might. If not they can go in the compost.
Sometimes, you just need to leave them for a bit, those are older bees that came with the nuke, if you see little bees it’s all good close them up and move quicker, from what I can see your sugar water is not very thick.
I honestly can’t imagine how any of this could be any of your faults!!! I know you feel responsible and take all of this very serious. But stuff like this happens. You’re doing everything you can to do it right. I’m really sorry that you’re struggling at this point. But please please please don’t beat yourselves up.
Welp, you've convinced me I'm not getting bees on my homestead. I do not have the ability to climb a ladder, and would straight up have a heart attack in a cloud of bees. I will leave it to you. You are amazing.
Wow I don’t think that’s common for first time bee keepers ! Best case scenario . 3 hives! Ben is the best we call on him often for advice . But we are now going into 4th year with our bees and last winter was a doozy with all the snow !. Good luck ! You did a great job Elysia . And old eagle eye spotted the swarm . Sometimes you stress me out😂😂
I watched another homestead channel and aints killed there bees. Prayers y'all's way..PLEASE CONTACT HOMESTEAD HEART THEY HAD THIS TROUBLE !! They are always willing to help !
I agree with @florenceumpherville plus ants can be a hive’s worst enemy. If ants got to the food, the bees might have capped it to stop the ants. You may have to put a commercial granular ant hill killer on the nearby nests. ❤❤❤ Good luck.
There are so many things that could cause this to happen to your bees-so sorry! Bees are A LOT more work than they people think. I would remove the dead bees from in front of the hive
I am not a beekeeper (maybe someday), but I know that farmers here in the USA are not allowed to spray chemicals during certain times of day when the bees are out because the chemicals will kill the bees. Do you live near someone who may be spraying? I'm sorry for what you are going through. Can't wait to see how your makeover of your in-law's house turns out!
Cinnamon is great to keep ants away if you don't want to use cinnamon powder get some cinnamon sticks which will last longer anyway due to your weather and put them all over the deck under it where the bee boxes are, the ants are drawn to the honey
All I can say is well done to you both. I’d be running and screaming 😂😂 I know they are good for the planet but I really don’t like anything that is buzzing around me 😂❤
Elysia next time to make it a little easier for yourself you need to get Philip to use a pair of garden shears and trim those branches back to a more manageable bundle for you to hold and control once you get the limb down from the tree. then give it one or two sharp firm downwards shakes above the open box and then close your lid. Sit your piece of branch at the entrance with enough room for bees to fly inside. In a day or two open the box and see if you still have bees and if you have a queen. Good luck.:)
You should be using the smoker! This calms your bees and encourages them to stay in the hive while you're working the hives. Sometimes, they will leave if they are feeling harassed. 😊
Your bees need to be higher off the ground in a pan with either water of oil in it. Ants won't cross water, but are attracted to honey and if aggressive they can take over the colony. I wish you luck on the bees.
I watch Jeff Horchet "Mr Ed" bee keeper in Louisiana, USA, and when he captures a swarm, he does look for the Queen and then puts her in a hair looking clip with holes. Then he puts this clip with the queen into a empty bee box and then shakes the bee swarm into the box but of course not all go into the box right away. So he leaves the box in the area and the loose bees March into the box and that March is really something to see! Good luck!
I think there were to many in the one box, or the queen didn't like the new box. .Looks like a lot of capped brood on the frames, was that from the bees you caught, or a old batch of bees?? . Once caught, find the queen, put here in a cage, and slide that in your box....the bees will follow....... her and go in...The other bees will clean out the new box...... so don't worry to much about that
The State I live in in Germany you need a licence to keep bees and have been to training over a three month period (weekends and evenings). You also need to be register with vet.
I'm from England my friends used just cane sugar just left on a table between hives he's never had success with sugar water ....try making it more syrupy...is that a word ? Thicker lol
Elysia, Ants WILL attack and can kill off a bee hive. When you lifted that first hive and the pile of ants was under it, I figured that was at least part of the problem. Ants and bees are related so when you treat to get rid of the ants, be careful that you don't use a spray to do so. It would be best if you lifted your hives up off that deck onto legs of some sort. I'm sure Phil could build you a stand with legs that would fit all your bee boxes. Each leg of the stand needs to be sitting in a tuna fish - type can filled with oil or water. Ants will not cross a liquid, normally. Ants are attracted to anything sugary/edible so if you clean off a frame and drop anything from it, to the ground, the ants consider it picnic time. They are also Very attracted to sugar water. I was constantly fighting them off my Hummingbird feeders until I discovered the feeders that have moats. No more ant problems for me. You are Exceedingly brave to climb a precariously balanced ladder, one handed, and then one handed, cut a limb full of thousands of bees off a tree and hold the limb and climb back down to wobbly ladder. My goodness, I bet Phil was stressing!
My husband rubs bee wax on the black factory base that way they build it out better. I guess they smell it. Also there needs to be more space between frames, so they can move into the other frames.
Have you done a varroa test to see if this particular hive has an infestation? I noticed there is no new brood or lava so something is not healthy with your hive. We use icing fondant here as well to feed our bees which helps eliminate the fluid in the feeder. Have you checked for hive beetle?
My dad had an apiary. I think your bees have made another queen and divided their hive. Some got confused and went back to the "old " hive and were killed by the old hive members. Elysha ...you are a trooper my darling .does nothing stop you 😅you are amazing ❤
A new queen hatched and part of the hive will swarm. Don't put them back in the same hive, they need their own hive.
Oh my gosh 😮. Watching you on a ladder cutting the branch full of a bee hive .. girl - you’re sooo brave ❤
I hope they figure out where they are supposed to be …. 🙏😘❤️
Never a dull moment at your house
Elysia, you are fearless!!!😮😮😮❤❤❤ glad you could call to find out what to do!!!🎉🎉🎉
Oh, I hope this has a happy ending! Best case scenario, you now have 3 hives!
I hope so too, that you save them❤
I live on my sister's bee farm. It is normal to loose a percentage of bees a year no matter how good you take care of them. There is also a mystery disease that kills them, no one knows why.
Nothing is easy about animals, not even bees. I hope everything is okay now that you rescued them.
Your dedication and compassion is a gift to your bees even if they’re struggling 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
You amaze me! You two are so brave, curious, hardworking, funny....
😢😮 … so much going on.. yet you remain calm. Such strength and determination! Xo
OH SNAP! Hope the bee's come through so you can get back to your makeover! Good Luck!

Your going need to finish this and take a nap so you can pull an all-nighter at mum and dads.
I sure you will get good advice from experienced bee-keepers!♥
Oh my ! Love the sense of humor! LOL

Wow. Brave, determined and crazy all at the same time. I give you kudos Elysia.
And that is why I could never be a bee keeper! You are so brave!
Love that you are talking to them
You are the most amazing woman ❤

You guys are doing a great job. You are new and the weather is weird. ❤
What a very special married couple you are 🎉❤💙
I think you’re very brave doing it without all the kit on not even gloves…. I was watching through one eye 😀
I am sorry but I can't help laughing!!! You are both SO BRAVE😱😂❤
I agree with @florenceumpherville plus ants can be a hive’s worst enemy. If ants got to the food, the bees might have capped it to stop the ants. You may have to put a commercial granular ant hill killer on the nearby nests. ❤❤❤ Good luck.
Ants and bees are actually related so anything that can kill ants can also kill the bees. Need to be Very careful when you treat for the ants.

And now that I've watched more of the video, I see that you figured it out. You are brave!
That is exactly what I was wondering. Spray paint or any other sprayed chemicals could very well be the culprit. I’m so sorry!
Cinnamon is great to keep ants away if you don't want to use cinnamon powder get some cinnamon sticks which will last longer anyway due to your weather and put them all over the deck under it where the bee boxes are, the ants are drawn to the honey

O my goodness, love your videos Thanks for sharing
Maybe the ants going after the sugar water is having a affect. Just a thought. 💕🙏
The worker bees will remove all the dead bees once it is warm enough. Good luck.
It might be because the Queen is not laying or Varroa my husband says. He keeps bees

You should be using the smoker! This calms your bees and encourages them to stay in the hive while you're working the hives. Sometimes, they will leave if they are feeling harassed. 😊
Maybe the Queen left the second box and went to the tree and all bees followed after that. 😊🤟🏼💕🙏🏼
Very very good 👍😊
Love you all 💖
Will we see an update of mom and dad’s house today? Thursday?
Wow, Im so sorry ants can do bad thing to bee hives.
God blessse bless you guys and keep you💜🤗🤗
Oh no! I’m so very sorry! 🙏🤟🐝💕
If I was able to do bees that would be my luck, that would be something that would happen to me..😂😂
Waiting anxiously for the next video of mom and dads.
Bless your heart!
I love that you talk to the bees 🐝❤️
Contact the cog hill farm. They are bee keepers and can help you.
Elysia you are really brave 🐝🐝🐝🐝👏👏👏👏👏👏👏Well done 💕💙
Call a local beekeeper and see what they have to say about it.
She did! She talked about it in the video?
Can you check with someone at the university who is in the agriculture or etymology department? Maybe they can provide some type of explanation.
@@kathrynmauro8673 I believe you're thinking about entomology. Etymology studies the origin of words

Omg gosh my hearts so sad 4 u guys. Plz let us know what u find out ❤ zero knowledge here aswell. Very curious. Hugs its ok. Learning.

Oh no! We had this happen too many times… no bees for me now..
Praying all goes well with your bees. 🙏

💕You need to get another box for your swarm bees💕It’s possible that another queen hatched out hence the swarm you rescued💕
Where's your personal protective equipment 😅
The State I live in in Germany you need a licence to keep bees and have been to training over a three month period (weekends and evenings). You also need to be register with vet.
My husband is a bee keeper and he is having a hard time this year
Oh my gosh sorry about the bees that's awful
I'm from England my friends used just cane sugar just left on a table between hives he's never had success with sugar water ....try making it more syrupy...is that a word ? Thicker lol
Hi Elysia Philip & boys,so sorry to hear this about the bees.❤🐝❤️
Ohhhh flip😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for sharing.
I’ve been wondering how you have time to take care of all your animals plus bees and still work on mom and dads house!
Oooo I was waiting for the makeover, next part, do tell?
Maybe they blocked because of the ants??? To keep them out?...Hope you get it sorted out.
I was wondering if you needed smoke.
Look for the queen
Oh goodness! Maybe they're to crowded? Idk
Could be you had a hive split. You are doing a good job!
If after the shake, they go marching in , means you got the queen into the box

Please get microphones. It's often hard to hear what you're saying. TYVM
Wow
Cutting the branch made me think of the scene from the Hunger Games 😮
My husband rubs bee wax on the black factory base that way they build it out better. I guess they smell it.
Also there needs to be more space between frames, so they can move into the other frames.
They needed more space? Box on top? So they don’t sworn ?
You are doing so well with this!
🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
Bee keeping 101! Don’t get bees if you are allergic to stings! 😮
Beekeeping is very scientific
Great job!
What in the world. You a very brave.

I am deathly allergic to bees. 🐝 😅
How often do you gather the honey? Could there be to much honey in the hives?
Omg I am so scared of all bees, but I am also allergic
When do you harvest the honey?
They look like they are mad 🐝 🐝 🐝
The queen is dead....that is the reason...
We live and learn don't we.
So sad.
the bee keeper mentor said its nothgin we did and showed us what to do to correct the problem
