    I find it very strange the fact you didn’t hit the cutoff switch as soon as you seen the heli going up fast pirouetting

  • @tomatwalden
    @tomatwalden 3 роки тому +14

    I believe that the OMP ESC has a cut-off if it detects an overload - it's there to cut the main rotors in the event of a crash. However, I can easily believe that you got grass momentarily in tail rotor causing an overload to the ESC for the tail - which would have immediately cut out the tail rotor causing the massive spin.

    Wow, that was freakin' nuts! On a side note, that OMP is built pretty tough to withstand a crash like that. I expected to see a lot of broken parts.

    Maybe you got a piece of strong grass tangles in the tail and it jammed, hence all the spinning.

    Nothing wrong with this heli… when you hit the ground with the tail hard enough the esc shuts down the tail until you reset the system. It just happens. Just hit hold and try to level out and not climb so high. I’ve done more then a few times. Sometimes if you hit hold fast enough and hit the ground with not so much inertia the heli is usually okay and after you pull the power and reboot.

    Even with the tail spinning, it is possible to reduce throttle until the heli is just above the ground and then you hit throttle hold.

    wow that's awesome you caught it on camera... i have had it happen. I was just thinking don't get to low in the tall grass or your tail will stop working then BAM that is what happened.. Thanks for a good laugh. I love my M2

  • @orbitalgolem91
    @orbitalgolem91 Рік тому

    Wow - my M2 V2 with 370 flights had same uncontrolled piro. Like yours, no crashes until that point. Started piro'ing uncontrollably and hit throttle-hold into the ground but much lower altitude. Noticed that much of the tail blade was gone. After removing the blades, noticed that the tail motor's bearings were trashed - lots of vibrations. Vibes likely fractured the tail blade at one of the mounting screw points and that caused the other blade to shear off too, causing the uncontrolled piros. New tail motor was much quieter. Moral of the story - check the tail motor for vibes every 150-200 flights, otherwise, you run the risk of fracturing the tail blade eventually. In your case, maybe the MOSFETs in the ESC driving the tail motor are starting to fail.

    maybe grass got hung up in tail, causing a temporary switch in direction, and just a end it reverse, but to late

  • @reigaterobot4965
    @reigaterobot4965 2 роки тому

    Looks to me that you got too close inverted to that grass and ingested some into the drive, the buzz you are hearing at the end is the tail motor out of sync with the main shaft - tbh its a miracle it didn't all just shatter into loads of parts

  • @Acemechanicalservices
    @Acemechanicalservices Рік тому

    That’s as plain as day, what happened. You wound up that grass into the tail motor, and that’s how helicopters fly with no tail rotor to offset the torque.

  • @westhobbiesrc8051
    @westhobbiesrc8051 3 роки тому +1

    What happened is easy. You hit the tail in the grass which stopped the tail motor and the tail to go crazy and which is why It stated spinning like a top and the ESC reset just before it crashed which is why you got the tail back.

    • @AndrejSturm
      @AndrejSturm  3 роки тому +2

      Interesting, thanks. I thought that the FBL got confused ... the ESC didn't come in to my mind. It seems that the heli could be recovered if I had not hit the throttle cut just after the ESC reset happened.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051 3 роки тому +1

      @@AndrejSturm I personally had it happen before if you smack the tail the ESC will shut the tail motor off. It is designed to stop any further damage, you can hear in the video detail motor shut down after it was hit and then right before you hit throttle cut you can hear it come right back in the helicopter stabilize out.

    • @AndrejSturm
      @AndrejSturm  3 роки тому +1

      Wow, that's brilliant. The ESC shuts down when the motor gets stuck to prevent even more damage from happening 👍

    @RobisonRacing68 3 роки тому

    LOL!!!! That looked more like those pinwheel fireworks! All you damaged was the canopy?? That says something about direct drive being the way to go. My guess is by hitting the grass with the tail rotor you set off a flight controller anomaly that it was never going to catch up to with so much sensor overload. Kind of like me when I can't get my hair done right on a bad hair day. Hahaha!

    • @AndrejSturm
      @AndrejSturm  3 роки тому +1

      I will inspect the heli tomorrow as I am running out of time today. But yeah, it seems that only the canopy and one servo arm got damaged which is really amazing! I think that you are right, the FBL unit has been confused and wasn't able to recover - when the heli was spinning I switched from manual mode to stabilized mode but that didn't help ... but as you can see in the video at the end the FBL unit was able to recover the tail from insane spinning but then I already decided to hit the throttle cut switch and it was too late. The heli crashed in self stabilisation mode - that helped reducing the damage ... I am suprised how the FC got so confused with such a minor bad stimulus.

      @@AndrejSturm hi mate. Have had this happen many times.. generally when have bumped the landing skids on the ground or the tail has come into contact with something. As you say the control unit gets confused and Heli just starts spinning. Recovered a couple but generally it's game over ☠️

    • @AndrejSturm
      @AndrejSturm  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Scott, to me the explanation that the youtuber WesthobbiesRC posted makes the most sense now. He said that the ESC for the tail motor shuts down by desing to prevent more damage to happen when the tail rotor gets stuck. Thats a brilliant ingeneering to me, if that's true.

      @scottwalker6257 3 роки тому
