Tariffs do not guarantee low prices or high quality for consumers. They have done the opposite in the past, mostly because they practically eliminate foreign competition. It would make sense if you could somehow guarantee domestic competition, say, by enforcing anti-trust laws and breaking up the monopolies that exist in the US, but that is not what Trump or any other member of congress is proposing. As far as China relocating their manufacturing to other countries, it is typically American to assume that the only reason they would do so is because of US trade policy. In fact, that trend was already happening before Trump took office. It is the result of China's ongoing increase in standard of living, as Chinese factory workers have been demanding more as their skill increases and they seek better opportunities and more consumer goods. To that extent, Chinese companies were looking to countries like Malaysia and India for cheaper labor. They are simply at a stage of development where it is more profitable for Chinese companies to outsource. The US bicycle manufacturer cannot compete because he still wants to exploit cheap foreign labor for the parts that are used to assemble the finished product in the US, but now has to pay an additional 25% for each of the assembled parts. If he made a product sourced entirely from US raw materials with US labor, the tariff would not be a problem for him. However, he would have higher labor costs and may have to share his profit with workers.
What Trump thinks which I rarely hear anybody mentioned is that the amounts of money coming in from tariffs will offset his reduced taxes for the wealthy and then they can't blame him for blowing up the budget.
Actually, everybody in politics + finance understands this. The stock market has been reacting negatively ever since Powell made it clear rate cuts were over due to expected inflation from tariffs + deportations. After a small Santa Claus rally just before Christmas, market has been straight down.
That's not going to happen don't you listen to the news China is now going to stop buying 360 billion worth of American products that going to destroy Americas economy wake up
Yes, people are forgetting This was the original pitch! Tariffs would replace income and corporate taxes. To impose ”sales taxes” is a well known way to tax the middle class efficiently (that wasn’t the pitch though)
Mussolini and Hitler preferred autarky to free trade, that is self reliance on domestic production as .opposed to imported goods/ which in the 1930s had some successes, as Germany and Italy performed relatively economically well, as they became isolated from the vagaries of international markets. I'm pretty sure the fascist economic playbook is what Trump is turning to when he espouses the benefits of tariffs. However, this is not the 1930s, the world economy is far more interconnected today and mutually reliant. I mean if self reliance is so great, why are economic sanctions so damaging? Why are the Russian and Iranian economies doing so badly since they were cut out of global trade? Russia and Iran are two large countries with vast resources at hand, yet they are struggling with low growth and high inflation since becoming isolated. Trump's trade policies would amount to self-inflicted sanctions. Truth is, globalization has gone too far to be rolled back. Most corporations are reliant on global markets both in terms of supply and demand. I mean you don't become a billionaire by just utilizing one market, no matter how large it is. Tesla for instance, doesn't only rely on Indian labour stateside, it sources its lithium from Chile, Australia, China, and Argentina - so called 'white gold' used in the batteries that power electric car engines. Needless to say, North America is not rich in lithium. Tesla also owns a factory in Shanghai that builds half of its components. So you can see why Musk was desperate to inveigle himself into Trump's court. Trump is deluded if he thinks he can roll back the global economy. But in reality he knows he can't, he's bluffing. Tariffs are just a patriotic guise, a way of fooling .American workers he really cares about them, to win votes from the rust belt. He also likes world leaders rushing to meet him as to avoid a trade war. He likes that kind of thing, it feeds his ego. He likes being King if only for a day, holding court down at Mar a Largo. But he really has little or no power to turn back globalization, no world leader has. Corporations have outgrown their family homes and have taken over the world and there is nothing the Don can do about it. He just has to suck it up from his South African heir apparent, hungry for his crown.

Even Trump just promising to impose tariffs has already cost workers money. Some factories are pre-purchasing or over-stocking parts that they anticipate will be more expensive soon, and then making up those costs by cutting or eliminating bonuses for workers.
Huh? Of course he did. He said it several times. A couple of times he said it to force Mexico into helping to close the border and to Canada because he said that they were charging more for goods coming into the states than the US was exporting. Both Mexico and Canada said if Trump goes through with his tarrifs they'll simply charge more for their goods or sell them to other countries. If he does then buying groceries at Walmart will feel like shopping for a luxury car. You'll have to take out a bank loan to buy a weeks worth of groceries for a family.
Tariffs in most cases don't make sense since all our corporations manufacture some most or all components or finished products out from other countries. Our large businesses are so interwoven with other countries that tariffs are ridiculous. Taxes on the wealthy 70 to 90 percent is more par for the course.
USTR will implement President Biden's call for higher tariffs on China by tripling the current Section 301 tariffs applied to Chinese steel and aluminum products from the current average of 7.5% to an average of 22.5%. USTR is now conducting a mandatory four-year review of the Section 301 tariff action.2 The Biden administration will likely use the completion of the four-year review to implement the tariff increases. Imports of Chinese steel and aluminum are also subject to Section 232 tariffs of 25% and 10%, respectively. Combining the Section 232 tariffs with the increased Section 301 tariffs will yield average tariff rates of around 47.5% for steel products and of around 32.5% for aluminum products. Some of these products are also subject to antidumping duties ("ADD") and countervailing duties ("CVD"), which would further increase the tariff level.

Trump: "Every serial killer that voted for me gets a pardon!"
MAGA: "Great idea."
Trump: "I'm naming my left butt cheek Secretary of State."
MAGA: "Great idea."
Yet I didn't hear a peep about biden's pardons from you lot
Trump's tariff plan is the equivalent of leaving a toxic relationship at 3 AM in your pajamas and leaving your keys on the coffee table...
That should “tarrify” you!
This reminded me of a story I forget the details but, some car company was going to build a factory in the U.S. then they did the numbers and they decided to build the factory in Canada. Why ? Because they had to pay for medical insurance for the employees and in Canada they didn't so Medicare for all is also an incentive for business.
Well... at least the all the sighing these stories make me do reminds me I'm still breathing. So that's good I guess.
@@andresrodriguez6252 this was Toyota. Universal health care is a win win for everybody. But, you have to get MAGA folks who hate health care for all as socialism to buy in. Until then, America will have the most expensive health care in the world and continually rank 38-39 out of 40 countries in medical outcomes. These folks don’t even know that Obamacare and the ACA are the same thing. Remember pre existing conditions used to decline care? The ACA got rid of that. Also, the people getting hurt the most are the rural areas that supported Trump. Hospitals and clinics are closing down at the rate of one a month because they don’t make profits for companies that own them.
That makes sense. I never thought of that. Thanks for the info
There would be thousands of small businesses started buy American workers if we had health care. Because lots of hard working people could build a better future for everyone and create lots of totally new products and create millions of jobs.
Well he can just go "Who knew tariffs were so complicated. Nobody knew." and the base will go "Of course." OR better yet he can just go out and say "Prices have never been lower" and the base will REFUSE to believe otherwise.
Right or wrong, most tariffs will absolutely increase prices and most consumers maintain their purchase behaviors.
These other countries are playing 3D chess. Trump is playing hangman... and losing.
"I was promised cheaper eggs and decreased inflation..... Why are the Democrats doing this to us 🤬?"-MAGA in 2025 probably
If the courts back him up on this national security bs for tariffs we are so fucked
Hell literally use that for everything
This video could be a threat to national security
You can look at why the US abandoned tariffs in the first place. It was to get rid of gov corruption and get more dependable source of revenue.
No, it was because we thought we should help the rest of the world rebuild after WWII. FYI, the world recovered decades ago.
That sounds right
Actually, everybody in politics + finance understands this. The stock market has been reacting negatively ever since Powell made it clear rate cuts were over due to expected inflation from tariffs + deportations. After a small Santa Claus rally just before Christmas, market has been straight down.
The countries will take their business elsewhere. And in the mean time, America goes without those goods, prices soar due to supply and demand.
We don't have to wait for it. His first round of tariffs caused farmer markets to go elsewhere. Now they're still depending on subsidies 🙄
They've been dependent on subsidies since the 1930's.
Thank you Kyle
I sell furniture and this is definitely happening. A lot more made in Malaysia, Vietnam, Mexico now but still no new American manufacturing
Tariffs are pure inflation. That's all they are.
Across-the-board tariffs are so insane, they've literally NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE.
Naw, it's tax lmao
Your ignorance is pathetic. This is integral to my professional expertise of over 35 years. Please refrain from commenting if trolling is your only contribution.
@@cassandratq9301Dude come on. Trying to win an argument by relying on a (possibly completely bogus) claim of "35 years of professional expertise" & by using a playground insult? You can do better. At least say something about his mom.
Even Trump just promising to impose tariffs has already cost workers money. Some factories are pre-purchasing or over-stocking parts that they anticipate will be more expensive soon, and then making up those costs by cutting or eliminating bonuses for workers.
I'm buying my leather for the Mad Max future coming.
Fashion is first 😂
Sounds hot
Post photos!
Kyle Kulinsky for President 🇺🇸
You really seem to understand how things work.
Trump literally just shouts random things until something gains traction, and then goes all-in on that.
Best show for truth and clarity of all the BS going on with the circus coming into office.
JimmytheGiant does great stuff here on UA-cam too 😊
Go Kyle!!
I would also like to point out that, in the campaign, Trump said NOTHING about imposing tariffs on our TWO BIGGEST TRADING PARTNERS - CANADA + MEXICO.
Yes he did but no one was listening
Kyle - Thank you - Keep on, keeping it Real..
Tariffs in most cases don't make sense since all our corporations manufacture some most or all components or finished products out from other countries.
Our large businesses are so interwoven with other countries that tariffs are ridiculous.
Taxes on the wealthy 70 to 90 percent is more par for the course.
You are an economic illiterate.
They didn't backfire. They were wildly successful. The mere mention of them got him into office and absolutely none of his supporters scoffed because they don't know a damn thing about tariffs. He got exactly what he wanted. It's already over. If they're upset about it, what are they gonna do? Nothing. They're going to do nothing about it and they're gonna decide that they like it, through some form of mental gymnastics. "We love tariffs. We've always had tariffs. We've always paid $10 for eggs. We've always been at war with Eurasia. We've always had leopards eating our faces."
Tariffs didnt win Trump the election. The dems did.
Yep it's sad because people here in America just have short term memories.
I would compare Trump's tariffs to Brexit. Good on paper (not really) but ultimately really bad.
By the way, opening new facilities in other countries will also reduce the national security of those countries due to opportunities for espionage.
And reduce OUR national security.
