16:19 so, would it be accurate to say that cabron could be used to mean something like: i am THE shit and i am shit but like, depending more so on the context than on a specific word like THE to differenciate it?
hey, i’m not mexican (i’m actually from spain), but i am familiar with the term and when i saw your comment i thought i would help you :) if using “THE shit” and “shit” helps you kinda visualize/understand the double/multiple meaning of the word, then yes! you could say it kind of works like that. but cabrón can be used for many more meanings and situations than just those two! mostly, there’s three cases where someone would use cabrón: 1. friendly banter: if you’re very close to someone, sometimes you can use cabrón to refer to them in a endearing/admiring way. it can be used as an adjective, but it can also mean “bro” or “dude” and could be seen as a synonym of wey. for example: “ese cabrón siempre encuentra la solución!” (that dude always finds the right solution) or “él es bien cabrón para resolver problemas” (he’s really clever at solving problems) 2. insult: as an insult, it would mean something like “asshole” or “bastard” for example: “ese cabrón me traicionó” (that bastard betrayed me) or “me traicionó, es un cabrón” (he betrayed me, he’s an asshole) 3. amplifier: (this is the one ive seen the least, so i could be wrong here) it can be used to express and intensify different qualities/situations. for example when something is really good or really difficult. example: “ese músico toca bien cabrón” (that musician plays really good) or “la tarea que nos dieron está cabrón” (the task we were assigned is very difficult) and please note that in a lot of hispanic countries the meaning and usage varies and the term can be very strong and potentially offensive. in spain, for example, it’s actually only used as an insult!! so be careful when using it :) hope this helped!
@@Leah-nk5vl oh wow that was really detailed thank you so much! i speak two languages and im trying to learn spanish now too so im making a lot of connections and comparisons to both of the ones i already know and it helps me learn, but also just asking people online explain some concepts especially slang or curse words is absolutely GOLDEN tysm!
