and the letters BBC on the Belfast symbol are clearly joined together, unlike the London version!

Apparently when RTE 2 in Ireland would broadcast the likes of Top of the Pops live from BBC 1 on Thursday nights, every now and then, Irish viewers would get a glimpse of the BBC 1 globe just before the programme would start. It was probably just that the people working in the continuity suite would press the button over to the BBC 1 feed too early. When RTE 2 would broadcast British programmes live from either the BBC or ITV, they would show a listing of the rest of the day’s programming. There used to be a clip on UA-cam of RTE 2 joining live to the Noel Edmond’s Late Late Breakfast Show in 1984 with them showing the rest of the days programmes, the day Prince Harry was born, and because of the announcement in Britain, RTE 2 had to play a short film until they were ready to cross over to BBC 1 for the show.

@@europa2000manVery interesting.. for some reason in Dublin we always watched TOTP on BBC1 .. I am assuming RTE couldn't crowbar in adverts as it was a constant BBC feed with no breaks.

Might be just me but I remember the RTE2 TOTP feed to have less colour in the picture and the audio was a little lower in volume about 5%, significant enough to notice. BBC transmission felt more "live and colourful"

I'd much rather watch BBC1 from 1981 than now as the variety of programmes is really good. Obviously we didn't know about Rolf Harris's crimes in 1981, but Cartoon Time under its various presenters was always popular, and that dcoumentary about the Nazis would be a good way to pass an hour. Beats Eastenders, The One Show and Sewing Bee hands down for me.

Aged eleven and a month away from leaving junior school. I remember Rolf Harris and his artwork, not knowing of his sexual deviancies then. He should have stuck to art. What happened to Three of a Kind? Tracey Ullman and Lenny Henry are household names, but what became of David Copperfield?
