Just found this review. I have seen others but this early work of yours showcases the styling that keeps me coming back to you for all my learnings re Joe history. Glad to see ypur still here all these years later!
One of the greatest toys ever made. My best friend and I played the hell out of our Joes, but always took good care of them (unlike other kids down the street who would set theirs on fire, blow them up, et cetera). To us, they were real people with real histories thanks to the brilliance of Larry Hama. Funny way we'd play with the Dragonfly: We had a huge maple tree in the back yard whose canopy extended all the way to the ground. We treated it as a giant redwood base for the Joes. Wild Bill would pilot the Dragonfly to a landing branch. Airborne would shimmy down the tow line to wrap the hook around the branch, then Bill would miraculously swoop beneath and cut the engine to hang the helicopter upside-down by the tow line. That's how they stored it. Bill would chill out by laying in the open canopy like a hammock. Then, when it was time to spring into action, they'd climb aboard (upside-down - there's a trick!), close the canopy, and disengage the hook, dropping and rolling into a flight position. That is one great helicopter pilot.
this is the ah-1 cobra attack helicopter the army and marines use. it was a great design for a toy, very practical. you hit the flaws head on. i had the later all tan version of this called the locust released in the late 90's. the skids broke when it when into storage for moving.
Remember my Dad buying me one while on hols in Wales . The year was ether 87 or 88. Loved it. Espeacily when Airwolf & Bluethunder were all the go then . I also had the Action Force plane called the Cobra Rattler....which looked a little like the A-10
I was born in 1977 and grew up in the golden age of Star Wars, Transformers, He-Man and Thundercats toys. Overall, nothing compared to GI Joe. It was just the best there was in terms of Variety and Style...
Try using a hot hairdryer on the stress mark. I find that it either reduces the mark significantly and can even remove it altogether. Once it cools, the join should be stronger. You can use the same method to help straighten any warped plastic, like the rotor blades.
Hey man wanted to say what a good job you do with the reviews !! I had most of this stuff when I was a kid and now in my 40s I want to get back into it!! Yo joe !!!
I got the dragonly for Christmas one year,it was missing a peace so we had to take it back to get another one,but they didn't have anymore in stock.so I had to settle for something else.i was so mad,I never did get the dragonfly.so sad.
One of my favorite toys when I was a kid got it for my birthday one year I wonder if they will ever update this for the modern figures .....I had the one that the chin cannon elevated and both guns could elevate independently
So Wild Bill sat in the back seat. I always wondered where to put him. Had the same problem with the 1990 Cobra Hurricane VTOL and G.I. Joe Retaliator.
He does fit better in the back seat. I have the tan Dragonfly from 2000. The 1992 Wild Bill is a bigger pain to get in the Dragonfly then the original.
Wild Bill, one of my least favorite characters. BOO! You brought in the figure Airborne for a quick cameo, that was a great figure! Loved this review, loved all the reviews I have seen so far. Thank you for doing these!
who would be the best choice as the gunner in the back seat ? the box suggests Airborne ... too bad they didnt make an Airborne figure that had almost the same outfit as wild bill but thats the thing with g i joe figures they all have their own thing and stuff that makes them special :)
the blades can be fixed laying between heavy books with no harm. unlike most of the time, I did like the box cover and had airborne in the dragonfly. no matter how much hasbro tries, this bird s design was never outdone. and you un-knowingly point to the greatest of hasbro s business flaw; replacement... one can never have a basic joe team, the 1 rst wave was just that, without that, you have no real team. hasbro has shot itself in the foot by stopping production of their best seller, the basic joe team, 1 rst wave. as someone who d like to get into collecting, I have no base to start with, just squatered figs here and there, that s not satisfying enough to get in, not worth my time and money to search. the dragonfly should be part of what is available today. the locust, sky hawk, shark, you can forget them. I had them, but they never inspired me like this nice piece! I liked w bill, but, the hat s color is not fitting or harmonious, brown or black would have looked better to me. good show!

Wish you guys would have been my friends, I could have learned a thing or two!
You and me both! I have the Desertfly; the beige-coloured desert version of the Dragonfly!

HCC, that animation at the beginning was awesome!
Thanks! It was an early attempt at special effects. I can do it a bit better now.

I have a later repaint of this vehicle. Its still nice after all of these years.
Any suggestions on cracks on the piece that connects the blades to the rotor??? Where the green piece meets the rod.

affoster79 On a real AH-1 the front seat is for the gunner, so despite the box art for the Dragonfly, Wild Bill should be in the back seat.

To remove the engine covers better, lift up the cover from the BOTTOM and gently pry outwards!
Guess it is time to head over to ebay and find one of these.
