Wind Tunnel Testing

  • District engineers recently traveled to Guelph, Ontario, Canada to observe wind tunnel testing of a scale model of the Bridge in anticipation of the next phase of our seismic retrofit project--the suspension span.
The suspension span is the most iconic part of the Bridge and will be the most expensive section to retrofit and the most challenging for crews. To perform the work, workers will need to build platforms and enclosures under the roadway, and we need to ensure these don't disrupt the structural integrity of the Bridge.
We want a structure that will last and be able to withstand anything Mother Nature puts at it. It's "What We Do."

Amazing work on the build, so intricate! Ex vibrations engineer here. Did you model the higher frequency vibrations from the slats to see if they have any fatigue / backout / fretting impact on the suspender / main cables, anchors or bolts in the underside ironwork? From the news reports there's a lot of sound energy going into the bridge now and I don't see any cables in your model :) Maybe that bit is secret. Thanks again for the videos guys!

This is my question too (but I am not a vibrations engineer!)

Winds today is expected for over 60mph. Will it flex & break with the added weight?

OK, I believe you guys missed this. But why not be creative and make some small alterations so that it harmonizes and create a major chord or something. It is probably doable and inexpensive. It will make this a unique world attraction.

The golden gate Bridge isn't strong enough to stand a major earthquake especially now since California doesn't take care of it its rusting away in many places and the paint thats protect the Bridge from fog is also fading away leaving its wide open of a threat attack from fog thats carrying ran to eat away the steel and soon the Bridge will fail
