Isaac Abravanel was not a Spanish Jew. He was a Portuguese Jew and statesman who worked for King Afonso V, having only left Portugal at the age of 46/47.

With all due respect for the late rabbi's vast amount of Talmudic, Jewish, and worldly knowledge, he was like most of today's major scholars in both Torah and secular spheres - loaded with a mass of knowledge, yet superficial in their understanding of all this knowledge. As is well known, Rabbi Steinsaltz's Talmudic commentary was rejected by most of our generation's great Torah scholars because it included grievous errors both in the simple meaning of the Talmudic texts, as well as in essential themes of Judaism.
The same is apparent in his depiction of Don Yitzchok Abravanel. Rabbi Steinsaltz describes him as a man with great knowledge of philosophy, economics, and politics, who was deeply immersed in Aristotolean vs. Platonic philosophy, yet he totally misrepresents his standing as a Jewish Torah scholar. He would have one believe that the Abravanel's Torah knowledge was limited to a brilliant memory of the bible and many other religious sources, pooh-pooing his Tanach commentaries as mostly good questions but lesser answers that were not broadly accepted in later years and that are quoted predominantly for their "weird" and radical views. This is blatantly and provably false. First of all, anyone who truly studied and understands his commentary knows what an original and profound interpretation it provides of the entire Tanach and Jewish theology and philosophy, offering explanations of every major story and commandment in Scriptures that are profoundly original, brilliantly understandable and logical, occasionally provocative or even somewhat radical, yet unfailingly faithful to the literal meaning of the text and the overall context of the verses.
Moreover, the most revered later commentaries, such as Kli Yakar and the Malbim, begin nearly every extensive commentary on major Torah issues by first quoting Abravanel, and then debating each point of his answers. Likewise, the monumental Rabbi Yosef Karo - the author of the Shulchan Aruch, which already became the basic compendium of Jewish law for the entire Jewish world in his lifetime, and who lived a mere 75 years after Abravanel - quotes him in two locations, in both of which he refers to him as "HaNesher HaGadol" (The Great Eagle), a title of respect reserved exclusively for the greatest Torah sages of a generation. Finally, while he indeed bemoaned how much time he had to spend in the royal courts (mostly so that he could be the eyes and ears of the Jewish community and the prime defender of their freedoms, rights and livelihoods), he also notes that his own courtyard was nonetheless always teeming with the great Torah scholars of the time, confirming his status as perhaps the greatest Torah leader of his generation.

    Rabbi,
    - 16:00 : saying Spanish Jews prefered their money rather their Judaism ... its a little hard... Do you know Spanish Jews had to PAY to leave Spain? Have you ever heard about the Spanish Jewry composed of homeless Jews who accepted the conversion to Christianity because they had no other option!
Rabbi Moshe BEN MAIMON (Maimonide) converted to Islam because he had to pay lots of money too... as a Muslim citizen he was exempted of taxes and Jizia tax. Then he left secretly !
With no money how are you going to survive ?
16:50 : of course Therese D Avila knew she came from a Marrano family in Spain... her paternal grandfather was a RABBI !!!

you publicly accuse the RaMbaM of converting to Islam? that's a sickening and very dangerous (for you) accusation. by the way, have you ever read the Iggeret Teiman?

Are you off your rocker? The most revered Jewish leader in the last thousand years as both a Torah scholar and holy man, and you try to prove the rabbi wrong by proposing the ludicrous and vicious charge that the Rambam converted to Islam?

Abarbanel spoke with a forked tongue. Those of us who have studied the entirety of his writings know that his hatred for Christians and Christianity was a pathological one. He misrepresent and even maliciously misquote the works of prominent Christian scholars such as Jerome, Nicholas de Lyra, Vincent Ferrer, Paul of Burgos, et. al. To make his readers believe that most of the Christian scholars up to his generation wrote in agreement with the rabbinic stand toward Christianity, thus making a mockery of Christian theology.

Vicent Ferrer, a native of my beloved Valencia, was a monster, as it was Torquemada and his Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition. Tremendous. Those who, in order of the salvation of the Jews from the penalties of eternal suffering, give them the greatest suffering before their time. "Ah! You still have a few years to live, so we are going to give you the most terrible death to make you regret your Judaism, which we know you will not regret ...". This was his dysbolic thought, further saying that it was God's will. Monsters that must live in hell, if there is hell. I am sure that one day their memory will be destroyed and with it the memory of all his followers. Only the weak can believe in the lies and falsehoods of the church...
